Run a Find All search to populate the Search Results window, then open or focus it with Search > Search Results Window or F7. The window command may appear to do nothing until a Find All search has run during the current Notepad++ session.
Populate the Search Results window
- Open Search > Find (or press Ctrl+F), or open the Find in Files search interface.
- Enter the text you want to find and choose a scope: Find All in Current Document, Find All in All Opened Documents, or Find All in Find in Files or Find in Projects.
- Notepad++ creates a Search Results tab in the Search Results window.
- To show or focus the window afterward, choose Search > Search Results Window or press F7.
The Notepad++ Searching documentation notes that the window command may seem to do nothing if no Find All command has run since Notepad++ was opened.

Choose the right search scope
| Scope | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Find All in Current Document | You want matches in the file currently open in the editor. |
| Find All in All Opened Documents | You want matches across documents already open in Notepad++. |
| Find All in Find in Files or Find in Projects | You want to search files or projects using the broader search interface. |
The same Search Results window command and F7 shortcut apply after any of these Find All searches.

Navigate and manage results
- The window is docked at the bottom of the main Notepad++ window by default; it can be moved or made free-floating.
- Double-click a match, or select it and press Enter, to move the editor to that location. Use F4 and Shift+F4 to move to the next and previous search results.
- Find All results accumulate. Choose Clear all in the Search Results window to remove existing entries, or use its right-click menu to enable Purge for every search and clear older results automatically when subsequent searches run.
- Results are discarded when Notepad++ shuts down. Copy anything you need to keep before closing the program.
Adjust search-result preferences
Open Settings > Preferences > Searching to change these options:

- Enable Find dialog remains open after search that outputs to results window if you want to keep the Find dialog open after a successful search.
- Enable Search Result window: show only one entry per found line if you do not want a separate result entry for each match on the same line.
These menu labels and shortcuts reflect the Notepad++ User Manual’s documented behavior; the manual does not pin the instructions to a specific release, so labels may differ in other installed versions.
