When the setting is available, open Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch > Mouse indicator, then switch Keep indicator visible until dismissed on or off. Persistent mode also requires the main Mouse indicator switch to be on. Feature-specific guides report this option in an experimental Windows 11 26H2 Insider build, so it may not appear on a standard installation.
Change the setting in Windows 11
- Press Windows+I to open Settings.
- Select Accessibility, then Mouse pointer and touch.
- Expand Mouse indicator.
- Turn Keep indicator visible until dismissed on to enable persistent mode, or off to disable it.
- If you are enabling persistent mode, make sure the main Mouse indicator switch is on as well. The feature-specific guide reports that the persistent option depends on this switch. (ElevenForum)
Show or dismiss the persistent indicator
ElevenForum’s feature tutorial reports that Windows+Ctrl+Shift+M invokes or toggles the persistent indicator. It also reports that you can dismiss it by pressing the same shortcut again, pressing Esc, or clicking or tapping. These shortcut and dismissal details come from that independent tutorial and may be build-specific. The tutorial says the usual Ctrl-key activation does not work while persistent mode is enabled. Why the option may be missing
Feature-specific coverage places the setting in Windows 11 build 26340.9233, described as an experimental 26H2 Insider build. A separate article dated August 24, 2026, also describes it as a hidden preview feature. These reports do not establish that it is available on every Windows 11 PC or confirm a general release date. (ElevenForum; Pureinfotech)
If the toggle is absent, you can use Windows’ documented pointer-visibility controls instead, but they do not provide the same stay-visible-until-dismissed behavior:

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- At Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch, adjust pointer size or color to make the pointer easier to see. (Microsoft Support)
- Enable pointer trails in the same accessibility area to help track movement. Microsoft explains, “By adding pointer trails you can see where the mouse is moving on the screen.” (Microsoft Support)
Optional preview-build workaround
Pureinfotech describes using ViveTool to enable the preview feature flags on an experimental build. This is third-party guidance for preview builds, not a required step when the Settings toggle is present. Feature IDs can change, and running the command does not guarantee the setting will appear. Avoid this workaround unless you understand the risks of changing experimental Windows features.
In an elevated Command Prompt opened in the ViveTool folder, the article gives this enable command:

- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
vivetool /enable /id:27829265,61457898
Restart Windows after enabling it, as the guide instructs. To disable the feature flags, its corresponding command is:

vivetool /disable /id:27829265,61457898
These commands and caveats are from Pureinfotech’s preview-feature guide; they are not a substitute for the normal Settings switch when that switch is available.
