Set up offline access while you’re connected to the internet, then mark the spreadsheet you need as available offline. On a computer, Google’s dedicated instructions cover Chrome and Microsoft Edge and require the Google Docs Offline extension and Drive’s Offline setting. On Android or iPhone and iPad, use the Sheets app’s Make available offline option. Your changes sync to Drive after you reconnect.

Prepare the spreadsheet before you lose your connection. Google’s dedicated offline instructions list Chrome and Microsoft Edge; they do not establish support for other browsers. You’ll also need enough available local storage. Google’s offline instructions describe the setup.

Google notes that some recent files may be saved offline automatically when there is enough storage. For a particular spreadsheet you need without internet, explicitly mark that file and check its status instead of relying on recent-file caching.

Google’s dedicated offline help lists Chrome and Microsoft Edge, while its general Sheets access page describes the computer offline workflow as “Chrome only.” Because the pages use different wording, follow the dedicated offline page for setup; these instructions do not establish support for other browsers. Google’s general Sheets access guidance uses the narrower Chrome-only label.
Enable offline editing on Android or iPhone and iPad
Use the Google Sheets app to prepare files while online. Google’s mobile instructions do not list the computer browser extension as a requirement. Google’s offline instructions cover both individual files and recent files.

Make recent files available offline
-
In the Docs, Sheets, or Slides app, tap Menu > Settings.

Turn on Make recent files available offline.
This setting is useful when you want recent files available, but it does not replace explicitly preparing a specific spreadsheet you know you will need.
What happens to offline edits
Changes you make offline are saved to Drive after you reconnect. Google says they can also be found in the file’s version history. Reconnect and confirm the spreadsheet has synced before relying on the updated version elsewhere. Google’s computer guidance warns that new changes overwrite previous changes, so do not assume that concurrent offline edits will always merge. Google’s offline instructions and Drive’s offline-change guidance describe syncing and version history.

The problem continues: The file may be too large. Google suggests making it smaller or splitting sections into new files.
