If dialogue is hard to hear while music and effects are loud, first turn on Voice Enhance if your Samsung soundbar supports it. If speech is still buried, raise the Center channel a little. Then check the TV’s sound settings and, if the problem happens across multiple sources, verify the TV-to-soundbar connection. Menu names and available features vary by model.
1. Turn on Voice Enhance if your soundbar supports it
Samsung describes this symptom as dialogue sounding quieter than background music or sound effects. Its Voice Enhance guidance applies to soundbars released in 2022 or later; do not assume an older model has the feature. On supported models, Voice Enhance makes speech easier to hear.

- Using the remote: Press Sound Control repeatedly until Voice Enhance appears on the soundbar display or is announced. Use the up or down control to enable it.
- Using SmartThings: Open the soundbar card, select Advanced Sound Settings, then enable Voice enhancement. The exact labels and available controls can vary with the soundbar model and software.
Samsung’s Voice Enhance instructions provide the supported-model guidance and control steps.
2. Raise the Center channel gradually
If your soundbar offers a Center channel level control, increase it in small steps and listen again. Samsung says the Center channel typically handles most spoken content in movies and shows. A modest adjustment is a better starting point than immediately moving the level to its maximum.

- Using the remote: Press CH LEVEL repeatedly until Center appears, then use the up or down control to adjust it.
- Using SmartThings: Open the soundbar card, choose Channel Level, and move the Center slider.
Samsung documents an adjustment range of -6 dB to +6 dB for this control. Not every Samsung soundbar has an adjustable Center channel, so check your model’s manual if the setting is absent. Samsung’s legacy HW-K650/ZA specification sheet, for example, lists a 3.1-channel layout with a Center channel and Clear Voice, but those details apply to that model rather than the entire lineup.

3. Check the TV’s sound settings
TV controls can affect the sound sent to the soundbar, but their availability and effect depend on the television model, selected sound output, and active sound mode. Use the TV’s manual for the exact menu path rather than relying on one universal set of steps.

- Sound Mode: Try another available mode and listen for whether speech becomes easier to follow.
- Equaliser: If your TV offers one, its high- and low-pitched sound controls may help you fine-tune the output. Some sound modes restrict equaliser use.
- Auto Volume: Samsung describes this as a way to adjust sound to a certain level when changing channels or external inputs. It is not the same as a dialogue-specific control.
- Reset Sound: This restores changed TV sound settings. Consider it if TV adjustments have made the sound less predictable.
Samsung’s e-manual guidance on Sound Mode and Expert Settings notes that the controls depend on the model and active settings.

4. Find out whether the problem follows one source
Try more than one app, channel, or input device. If low dialogue and loud effects occur only in one program or source, its audio mix or source settings may be involved; that is a diagnostic possibility, not a Samsung-confirmed cause. If the symptom appears across sources, check that the TV is routing sound to the soundbar and that the soundbar is on the correct input.
5. Check the HDMI ARC/eARC connection
If you use HDMI ARC or eARC, check the connection and output settings before treating the soundbar as faulty:

- Make sure the cable is seated in the TV’s ARC/eARC port and the soundbar’s HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port.
- Confirm HDMI-CEC is enabled on the TV.
- Check that the TV’s Sound Output is set to the soundbar.
- On Samsung TVs, check that the soundbar is on D.IN and displays TV ARC. Depending on the model, eARC may also require HDMI-eARC Mode to be set to Auto.
Samsung recommends a certified HDMI cable and advises replacing a defective cable. A cable change is relevant when the existing cable or connection is suspect; it is not a dialogue-enhancement setting. If ARC is connected correctly but still fails, Samsung’s Levant HDMI troubleshooting page describes a reset for some setups: turn off the TV and soundbar, then hold both volume buttons on the remote for more than five seconds until “INIT OK” appears. Reset instructions vary by model, and a reset may clear settings. Consult the manual for your exact soundbar before trying it.

If the soundbar has no output even when connected to another TV, Samsung advises contacting support. Use that escalation for an output failure, rather than as the first response to dialogue that is merely quieter than effects.
