Enable the offload options your network adapter supports in Device Manager, or turn on checksum offloads in an elevated PowerShell window. The exact settings depend on the adapter and its driver; enabling checksum offload is especially important because Windows relies on it for RSS, RSC, and Large Send Offload (LSO).
What network adapter task offloading does
Task offloading moves supported network-processing work from Windows’ TCP/IP transport to a capable network interface card (NIC). Depending on the adapter and driver, that work can include IP, TCP, and UDP checksums; Large Send Offload (LSO); Receive Side Scaling (RSS); Receive Segment Coalescing (RSC); NVGRE task offload; and UDP Segmentation Offload (USO). Microsoft says USO is supported beginning with Windows 10 version 2004. Microsoft’s task-offload overview describes the supported services.
Checksum offload is a key setting: Microsoft’s NetAdapter guidance says checksum offloading is required for RSS, RSC, and LSO to work. If you disable checksums, related stateless offloads may stop working too. Microsoft’s checksum-offload cmdlet documentation explains this dependency.
Enable offloading in Device Manager
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters, right-click the Ethernet or Wi-Fi adapter you use, and select Properties.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Look for the offload properties the driver provides. Common examples include TCP/UDP Checksum Offload for IPv4 or IPv6, Large Send Offload v2 for IPv4 or IPv6, and Receive Side Scaling.
- Select a property, choose Enabled or Rx & Tx Enabled if offered, and apply the change. The setting labels and available values vary by manufacturer and driver. Intel’s Ethernet guide shows examples of settings on the Advanced tab.
- Restart the adapter or computer if Windows or the driver requests it. Some changes require an adapter restart to take effect.
There is no single checkbox that turns on every type of offloading. Enable only properties present for your adapter; a missing option may mean the hardware or driver does not expose it.

Enable checksum offload with PowerShell
Open PowerShell as an administrator. First identify the adapter name, then use that exact name in the command:
Get-NetAdapter
Enable-NetAdapterChecksumOffload -Name "Ethernet"
The enable cmdlet covers IPv4, TCPv4/TCPv6, and UDPv4/UDPv6 checksum offloads. To specify a narrower set, include the relevant switches, for example:

- Connects a USB 3.0 device (computer/laptop) to a router, modem, or network switch to deliver Gigabit Ethernet to your network connection. Does not support Smart TV or gaming consoles (e.g.Nintendo Switch).
- Supported features include Wake-on-LAN function, Green Ethernet & IEEE 802.3az-2010 (Energy Efficient Ethernet)
- Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
- Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS
Enable-NetAdapterChecksumOffload -Name "Ethernet" -IpIPv4 -TcpIPv4 -UdpIPv4
Replace Ethernet with the adapter name returned by Get-NetAdapter. The cmdlet normally restarts the adapter; Microsoft documents -NoRestart for cases where you do not want it to do so automatically. See the cmdlet syntax and parameters.
To set explicit receive-and-transmit states instead, Microsoft documents syntax such as:

Set-NetAdapterChecksumOffload -Name "Ethernet" -IpIPv4Enabled RxTxEnabled -TcpIpv4Enabled RxTxEnabled -UdpIpv4Enabled RxTxEnabled
For driver-specific settings such as LSO that do not have a dedicated cmdlet in this procedure, inspect the advanced properties and use the exact display name and value shown by your adapter:
Get-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty -Name "Ethernet"
Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty -Name "Ethernet" -DisplayName "Large Send Offload V2 (IPv4)" -DisplayValue "Enabled"
Property names and values are driver-specific. Microsoft notes that Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty writes the adapter’s advanced property in the registry, so do not copy a display name or value unless it matches what your adapter reports. Read the advanced-property cmdlet documentation.

Verify the settings and troubleshoot problems
Check the adapter’s reported properties
Run Get-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty -Name "Ethernet" and confirm the values for the properties you changed. Use the adapter’s RSS or LSO status cmdlets where available to inspect those features. If an option is not listed, the NIC or its installed driver may not expose it; check for a current driver from the adapter or computer manufacturer and review the properties it provides. Some adapters let you control receive and transmit paths separately.
If a VPN, virtual machine, or workload stops working
Record the original settings, change one property at a time, restart the adapter, and retest the affected workload. If the problem persists, restore the prior value for the setting you changed. Offload behavior can depend on the driver and workload, so a troubleshooting setting that helps one system is not a universal recommendation.
