To run ads on a YouTube live stream from India, your channel must be eligible for YouTube Partner Program (YPP) ad revenue, you must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module, and you must turn monetization on for the stream in Live Control Room. Then choose automatic, scheduled, or manual mid-rolls. Being in India alone does not enable ads; check your channel’s current eligibility in Studio.
Before you turn on live ads
Meet YPP ad-revenue requirements
YouTube’s YPP overview lists these requirements for ad revenue: follow channel monetization policies, live in a supported country or region, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, enable 2-Step Verification, have access to advanced features, and link or set up one AdSense for YouTube account. You must also reach 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours during the preceding 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views during the preceding 90 days. Reaching a threshold makes the channel eligible for review; it does not guarantee acceptance. See YouTube’s YPP eligibility guidance.
Accept the Watch Page Monetization Module
In YouTube Studio, open Earn and check the channel’s feature availability and module status. To earn ad and YouTube Premium revenue from live streams viewed on the Watch Page or embedded in the YouTube video player, accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube notes that individual features have their own eligibility requirements and may be unavailable because of local legal requirements. Consult YouTube’s India-localized monetization options and India monetization guidance.

Enable ads in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Start a stream from the Stream tab, or schedule one from Manage.
- Open Edit → Monetization for that stream.
- Set Monetization to On.
- Choose an ad mode: Automatic, Scheduled, or Manual.
When you turn monetization on for a live stream, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically turned on as well. Interface labels and eligibility can change, so check the current Earn and Live Control Room screens if your Studio looks different.
Choose a mid-roll setting

YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls. Its reported average uplift of more than 20% in instream ad revenue per hour came from a comparison of channels that enabled automatic live mid-rolls with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. What viewers may experience
- An enabled ad slot is not guaranteed to serve an ad, and not every viewer necessarily receives one.
- If no ad is served, viewers continue watching. Viewers who see an ad return to the stream when it ends or they skip it.
- YouTube says ads are turned off for a live stream embedded on an external site with autoplay enabled.
- For manual breaks, if you do not insert any, no manual mid-roll is served.

When ads are unavailable or do not appear
- Monetization controls are missing: Check the Studio Earn tab for YPP and feature eligibility, and confirm the Watch Page Monetization Module has been accepted.
- The channel has not been approved for ad revenue: Meeting the subscriber and watch-time or Shorts-view threshold only leads to review. Check your YPP status and any channel policy or account requirements in Studio.
- Monetization is off for this stream: Open the stream’s Edit → Monetization settings in Live Control Room and confirm it is set to On.
- A scheduled or manual mid-roll does not play an ad: An ad slot does not guarantee delivery to every viewer. For manual mode, make sure you insert a break during the stream.
- Ads do not show in an autoplay embed: YouTube says ads are turned off for a live stream embedded externally with autoplay enabled.
