There’s no reliable evidence that 24/7 YouTube streams generally gain more subscribers than regular uploads. YouTube Analytics lets you compare subscribers gained by Live and Videos on your own channel, but that comparison shows what happened—not whether streaming continuously caused the difference. To judge which format works better for you, compare subscriber gains alongside exposure, retention, traffic sources, and audience overlap.
What the available evidence says
YouTube reports subscribers gained by content type, including Videos, Shorts, Live, and Posts. The report is intended to help creators see which content performs best at turning viewers into subscribers. It is a way to assess your channel, not proof that one format—or a 24/7 stream—wins across YouTube.
YouTube reported that over 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live content on average in Q2 2025. That figure, published in a September 16, 2025 YouTube Live announcement, describes live viewing overall. It does not measure subscriber conversion, compare streams with regular uploads, or say anything specific about continuous streams. YouTube’s September 2025 Live update
How to compare Live and Videos in YouTube Studio
- Set a matching date range. In YouTube Studio Analytics, open the Content report and compare subscribers gained from Live with subscribers gained from Videos for the same period. Avoid comparing a long-running stream’s lifetime total with a recent upload’s short measurement window.
- Put subscriber totals in context. Compare views and impressions where available, and consider click-through rate when evaluating how viewers reached and chose content. Raw subscriber totals alone can mislead if one format received much more exposure.
- Inspect live-stream metrics. YouTube’s live-stream report includes new subscribers during the stream, watch time, average view duration, peak concurrent viewers, and traffic sources. Analytics can filter live content as Live, On demand, or Live & on demand. Use these measures to understand both reach and viewing behavior, rather than treating subscriber count as the whole result.
- Check discovery sources and audience overlap. Live traffic may come from browse features, YouTube Search, channel pages, direct or unknown sources, and others. YouTube also provides a viewers-across-formats report. A Live stream and a video may attract different viewers or serve different topics, so their totals are not automatically comparable.
- Interpret the result as channel-specific. Keep the subject matter and audience as comparable as practical. If Live gains more subscribers in your reporting period, that is evidence of an observed difference on your channel—not proof that running streams 24/7 caused it.

Why the answer can vary by channel
Discovery is not identical for every format or creator. YouTube says viewers can find livestreams on a channel’s Live tab, while vertical livestreams can also appear in the Shorts feed. Search, browse, channel pages, and other traffic sources can contribute as well. How much a stream is discovered depends on the particular channel and content; visibility does not by itself establish that a format converts viewers into subscribers more effectively.
Duration is another important distinction: the available reporting can show results for Live content, but it does not establish that keeping a stream running continuously is what produced those results. A stream’s topic, audience, exposure, viewing behavior, and overlap with other formats all affect how a simple comparison should be read.

What this means for your format decision
- Use 24/7 streaming when continuous availability suits the content and the way your audience watches—not because subscriber gains are guaranteed.
- Use regular uploads when scheduled, discrete videos better fit the material or your production workflow.
- Compare your own results over equivalent periods and account for exposure and audience behavior before deciding where to invest effort.
There is no published figure in the cited YouTube materials establishing how many more subscribers 24/7 streams gain than regular uploads. YouTube Senior Director of Product Management Aaron Filner described livestreaming as demanding work that takes “courage,” “skill,” and “dedication”; that is a reminder that live content has production demands, not evidence of a subscriber advantage.
