What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To make a website look like it is on an iPhone in desktop Chrome, open DevTools, turn on the device toolbar, then use a device preset or set a custom viewport in Responsive mode. From the device toolbar’s More options menu, choose Capture screenshot for the visible area or Capture a full size screenshot for the full page. This is useful for checking responsive layout, but it is not a substitute for testing on a real iPhone.
Set up an iPhone-like viewport
- Open the website in Chrome, then open DevTools. You can use the browser menu or a keyboard shortcut to open DevTools; the exact shortcut depends on your operating system.
- In the DevTools action bar, click Toggle device toolbar. The page is now displayed in Device Mode.
- In the device toolbar, open the Dimensions list. Select a device preset if an appropriate one is available, or select Responsive and enter the width and height you want to test.
- Check the orientation and device type. If you need to adjust the device pixel ratio (DPR), enable its control and select a value. Device presets may need to be enabled in DevTools Settings; custom devices can be configured with width and height, with DPR, user agent string and device type as optional settings. See Chrome’s Devices settings documentation.
- Wait for the layout to settle, scroll or interact with the page if needed, then capture the screenshot using the appropriate option below.
Device Mode simulates a mobile viewport and can also adjust conditions such as CPU and network performance or selected sensor inputs. For a screenshot focused on how the layout responds to screen dimensions, a preset or Responsive viewport is usually the important choice. The result is best described as an iPhone-like view unless you have deliberately selected and configured a specific device profile.

Choose the right screenshot command
| What you need | DevTools command | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Only the part currently visible | Capture screenshot | The current simulated viewport. |
| The page beyond the viewport | Capture a full size screenshot | The full page, including content outside the visible viewport. |
| A screenshot with a device bezel | Turn on Show device frame, then capture in a supported device-specific mode | The page with frame artwork when DevTools has artwork for the selected device. |
To find these commands, open More options in the device toolbar. Chrome documents the capture workflow on its Simulate mobile devices with device mode page. Menu details and available presets can vary by Chrome release.
What the emulation does—and does not—prove
Chrome describes Device Mode as a “first-order approximation” of how a page looks and feels on a mobile device. It changes the conditions under which desktop Chrome displays the page; it does not run the page on an iPhone. A screenshot can help reveal responsive layout issues, but it cannot establish that the site behaves exactly like Safari or iOS.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Chrome’s guidance on emulating and testing other browsers notes that emulation does not reproduce every difference in browser API support, CSS support or mobile-browser behavior. When those differences matter, check the page on a real iPhone. Chrome’s device-mode documentation likewise advises: “When in doubt, your best bet is to actually run your page on a mobile device.” For real-hardware debugging, Chrome points developers to Remote Debugging.
Troubleshooting a misleading or missing capture
- The page still looks like desktop. Confirm that Toggle device toolbar is on and that the device toolbar shows the dimensions or preset you intended.
- The screenshot is cropped. You likely chose Capture screenshot, which captures the visible viewport. Use Capture a full size screenshot when you need the page beyond the viewport.
- The device preset is missing. Check DevTools Settings and enable the device if it is available there. You can instead use Responsive and enter custom width and height.
- Text or images look different from an iPhone. Check the selected device type and DPR, but treat the result as an emulation rather than proof of iOS rendering. Verify on the target browser and hardware when fidelity matters.
- The screenshot includes a banner, chat widget or popup. Device Mode captures what the page displays; it does not automatically remove site overlays. Close or dismiss the overlay in the page before capturing if you want a clean manual screenshot.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; its capture flow accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before the shot. Those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients.
