In the OneDrive app on your iPad, select a file or folder and tap Share. Choose Email in Outlook to draft an email with a OneDrive sharing link, or choose Send file to attach a copy of one file. For multiple files or a folder, share a link or invite recipients instead.
Choose between sharing a link and sending an attachment
A sharing link gives recipients access to the item in OneDrive; it does not attach a copy to the email. Send file attaches a copy of one individual file. Microsoft documents these options in Share files in OneDrive for iOS.

Email a OneDrive link from your iPad
- Open OneDrive and press and hold the file or folder you want to share. The item becomes selected.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Email in Outlook to draft an email with a sharing link. If Outlook is not available, tap Mail in the share options to use Apple’s Mail app, or choose another available email app.
- In the email draft, enter the recipients and add a note if you want to, then send the message.
The recipient receives a link, not an attached copy. For work or school accounts, link choices can include anyone, people in your organization, people who already have access, or specific people; the options shown can vary with administrator settings.

Send one file as an email attachment
- In OneDrive, press and hold the file, then tap Share.
- Choose Send file. If it is not visible, swipe left along the bottom row of share options.
- Choose an email app, address the message, and send it.
Microsoft says, “An email message opens, with the file you’re sharing as an attachment,” and limits this route to individual files. To share more than one file or a folder, use an invitation or a link instead.

Share multiple files or control who can access them
Invite specific people
Choose Invite people, enter the recipients’ email addresses, and set Allow editing on or off before adding them. This is the direct choice when you want to name recipients and set whether they can edit. The exact available options may vary, particularly for work or school accounts.
Copy a link and paste it into an email
Choose Copy link, then paste the link into a message in your preferred email app. Before sending, review the link’s audience and permissions. Microsoft cautions that “anyone who has the link can open, download and save the document, and forward the link.” Use a more restricted audience when the file should only be available to particular people, if that option is offered.

If a sharing option is missing
- Can’t find Send file: Swipe left along the bottom row of share options. It applies to one file, not multiple files or folders.
- Outlook is not available: Choose Mail or another email app from the sharing options.
- Don’t see the link audience you need: Work or school sharing options can be limited by administrator settings. Use an available option that matches the intended recipients, or ask your organization’s administrator about its sharing policy.
