Press the optical drive’s eject button first. If it does not open, use Windows File Explorer to select This PC, right-click the optical drive, and choose Eject. First confirm that your exact Samsung laptop has an optical drive: configurations vary by model, and not every Samsung laptop has a disc tray.
Check whether your Samsung laptop has an optical drive
Look along the laptop’s edges for a disc tray, then verify the hardware in the manual for your exact model. Samsung’s support pages provide manuals by model, and some models or operating-system variants may have different documentation. Without a built-in optical drive, there is no internal tray to eject a disc from.

Try the eject button, then Windows
Press the drive’s physical button
With the laptop powered on, press the eject button on the optical-drive tray. If it does not respond, try the Windows command below. Samsung’s support guidance recommends trying the drive’s eject button again when the CD/DVD drive is unresponsive.

Choose Eject in File Explorer
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Right-click the optical drive.
- Choose Eject.
The drive should release the tray if Windows can communicate with it. Samsung’s support instructions describe selecting the CD/DVD drive in Windows Explorer or My Computer and choosing its eject command; ASUS’s general optical-drive guidance describes the File Explorer and This PC path. The Windows steps are generic interface guidance, not a specification for every Samsung model.

Use the emergency release only if your drive supports it
Some optical drives have a small emergency-eject hole, but it is not present on every drive. Check the manual for your exact laptop or drive and use this method only if the manual identifies the hole and explains the procedure.
- Shut down or disconnect the equipment as directed in its manual.
- If the manual confirms an emergency-eject hole, straighten a paper clip or use a suitable pin.
- Gently insert it into the identified hole to release the tray. Do not force it into an unidentified opening.
Samsung describes paper-clip release for drives with an emergency hole, while ASUS cautions that availability depends on the model. For the external Samsung USB optical drive covered by its manual, unplug the USB cable before inserting a pin into the emergency-eject hole. That unplugging direction applies to that documented external drive; do not assume it applies to every internal drive.

A laptop without an internal optical drive cannot eject a disc from one. If you need to use CDs or DVDs, an external USB DVD drive is an option. Before choosing one, check that its connection matches an available laptop port and that it supports the disc formats you need. Confirm its manual-eject procedure in the accessory’s own manual; compatibility and release features depend on the specific drive.
