You can edit RAW photos in Luminar on a Chromebook by using Skylum’s Luminar Android app, provided your Chromebook supports Android Runtime and the app is available to install. Import a camera RAW file, make basic exposure and color adjustments, refine detail and framing, then export a finished copy. RAW support depends on the camera model, so check compatibility before relying on a particular file.

Skylum lists Luminar as an Android and ChromeOS app and says it is optimized for ChromeOS devices with Android Runtime support. Check your Chromebook’s Play Store availability and device support before starting. Luminar Neo’s desktop requirements are for macOS and Windows; it is a separate platform route, not a native ChromeOS desktop app.

How to edit a RAW photo in Luminar
- Install and open Luminar. On a compatible Chromebook, find Luminar in Google Play and install it. The app’s availability and compatibility may vary by device.
- Import the RAW file. Open the image from the storage or import option available in the app. If the photo is on an SD card, transfer it using a reader if needed; check that the reader fits your Chromebook’s port and supports your card type.
- Check that the file renders correctly. Make sure the image opens and its colors and details look plausible before editing. If it is missing, unreadable, or visibly distorted, the camera’s RAW format may not be supported.
- Correct light first. Use the available Develop controls to balance exposure and other light settings. Luminar’s tools differ by app and platform, so do not assume the Chromebook interface exactly matches Luminar Neo desktop.
- Refine color and detail. Adjust color, then use detail controls as needed. Skylum’s Chromebook page lists tools including Develop, Curves, and Details, along with crop and AI tools; the exact controls available can depend on the app version.
- Straighten and crop. Correct a tilted horizon or remove distracting edges after the main tonal adjustments.
- Apply creative effects sparingly. Try a preset or effect after the basic corrections, and reduce its strength if it overwhelms the photo.
- Save or export a finished copy. Use the app’s save or share action, select an available output format, and confirm the resulting file is accessible where you expect it.
Skylum’s Develop RAW/Develop guide explains the Develop tool family. Its Luminar Mobile menu guide describes Save to Photos and Share actions and lists JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and HEIF choices. Those documented choices do not establish that every format appears on every Chromebook.

If a RAW photo has strange colors or artifacts
First check whether Skylum supports the exact camera model. For some unsupported camera RAW files, Skylum suggests converting the file to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter, then importing the DNG into Luminar.
