To get the Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview, open the official Squad PS5 Alpha Preview page, choose Download Alpha, follow its PlayStation Store link, select Add to Library on the free listing, and install it from your PS5 Game Library. You must enlist through the official alpha page, and the announced preview window is October 16–25, 2026.
What you need before downloading
The current preview is a PlayStation 5 release. It is not an installable PS4, Xbox, PC, mobile or streaming version. The PlayStation Store identifies the product as Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview, published by Secret Mode Limited, and marks it as a free alpha/beta product. The listing is enhanced for both PS5 and PS5 Pro.

- A PS5 console connected to the internet.
- A PlayStation account you can use on that console.
- A supported DualSense controller. You do not need to buy another controller if you already have a working PS5 controller.
- Enough free console storage for the download. The cited official pages do not state a guaranteed download size or minimum free-space figure, so check the live store listing and your PS5 storage screen before beginning.
The publisher says the preview is open to all, but access still requires enlistment through the official alpha page. Adding the store product to your library without completing that official enlistment may not be sufficient.
Prepare the correct PlayStation account
Account matching is the most important detail when you claim the preview from a phone or computer. The entitlement is attached to the PlayStation account that selects Add to Library, not simply to the browser, console or household. Sign in to the same account on the web store and on the PS5 you plan to use.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
- Check the account name or email shown in the browser before adding the product.
- On the console, switch to the same user profile before opening Game Library.
- If several people use the PS5, do not assume that another profile will automatically see the newly claimed item.
- Keep the account signed in while the store entitlement and download queue synchronize.
Enlistment and claiming are separate actions: enlist on the official alpha page, then claim the free store listing. Completing only one of those steps can leave the preview unavailable in your library.
Download the official Squad PS5 alpha
- Open the official landing page. On a phone, tablet or computer, go to alpha.joinsquad.com. Use this page rather than an unofficial download mirror or a search result that offers a separate installer.
- Enlist through the page. Complete the enlistment flow shown on the official alpha site. The publisher’s console announcement describes the preview as open to all while explicitly requiring enlistment.
- Select Download Alpha. The button on the landing page sends you to the official PlayStation Store product page for the PS5 Alpha Preview.
- Sign in to the correct PlayStation account. If the store opens in a browser, sign in with the account that is also used on the target PS5. Using a different account can put the entitlement in the wrong library.
- Add the free product to your library. On the store page, confirm that the title is Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview and choose Add to Library. The listing should show the preview as free rather than presenting a purchase price.
- Switch to the PS5. From the PS5 home screen, open Game Library, go to your collection and locate the Squad Alpha Preview.
- Start the installation. Select the game and choose Download or Install, depending on the label shown by your console. Leave the PS5 online until the download and installation finish.
- Launch after installation. Start the preview from the home screen or Game Library. If the item is not visible immediately, allow the library to refresh, then check the account and download queue before repeating the store steps.
How to confirm that you selected the right listing
Several similarly named pages can appear when you search for a game. Before adding anything, verify the product name and platform:
| Check | What the official listing says |
|---|---|
| Product name | Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview |
| Platform | PlayStation 5 |
| Price | Free alpha/beta product |
| Publisher shown by the store | Secret Mode Limited |
| Enhancement | PS5 and PS5 Pro enhanced |
| Online capacity shown by the store | Up to 99 online players |
| Store release date | October 16, 2026 |
If a page asks you to download a separate executable, pay a fee, or provide console credentials outside the PlayStation sign-in flow, close it. The official process uses the alpha landing page and the PlayStation Store listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat free means for this preview
The store product itself is listed at no charge. You do not buy a disc or a separate console key; you add the digital preview to your PlayStation library. Free does not remove the account, internet or online-play requirements. The listing still requires a PlayStation account for online features, and normal PlayStation rules for online multiplayer can apply.
No physical edition has been announced for the console version. A DualSense is supported, but purchasing a second controller is optional if your PS5 already has a working one. Ownership of the PC version also does not substitute for the PS5 entitlement.
What to do when the alpha starts
The preview is not the complete planned console release. The store listing identifies a limited set of activities: Infantry Training, Pilot Training and an Invasion Mode skirmish on the Gorodok map. Complete the training activities first; they are the intended introduction to movement, infantry play and piloting before you enter the available skirmish.
- Launch the installed preview and allow any first-run update or agreement screen to finish.
- Open Infantry Training and follow its exercises before joining the multiplayer sample.
- Open Pilot Training if you intend to use vehicles or aircraft-related roles.
- Choose the available Invasion Mode skirmish when you are ready for the Gorodok sample.
The store describes Squad’s format as 50-versus-50 combined-arms battles and lists capacity for up to 99 online players. The official alpha page uses the rounded description “100 players.” Those figures describe the same large-scale format from different listing contexts: use the store’s “up to 99 online players” figure when checking the product metadata, and do not interpret it as a guarantee that every alpha match will fill every slot.

Only the activities named in the PlayStation Store listing are confirmed for this alpha. The Gorodok Invasion sample is not a promise that every Gorodok layer, faction or vehicle from a future release is present. Likewise, the large player-count description explains the intended combined-arms scale, not a requirement that a match always reaches 99 online users.
The console FAQ outlines a broader planned package: AAS, RAAS, Invasion and Fireteam modes; Al Basrah, Fallujah, Mutaha, Narva, Yehorivka and Gorodok maps; and eight factions. It describes up to 100 players for console PvP and five players for Fireteam PvE at launch. Those are future console-version plans, so they should not be used as an inventory of alpha content.
When the PS5 preview is available
The announced preview window is October 16–25, 2026. The official alpha page says PlayStation 5 players receive first access during that period, and the publisher’s announcement repeats the same dates while stating that enlistment is required. Because this is a time-limited preview, adding the product to your library does not mean it will remain playable indefinitely after the window closes.
Store availability, access status and schedule information can change. If the listing no longer offers the preview, shows a different state, or does not allow installation, check the official alpha page and the live PlayStation Store page again rather than relying on an old screenshot or cached search result.

Account, subscription and platform limits
Do you need a PlayStation account?
Yes. The PlayStation Store listing requires a PlayStation account for online features. Use the same account for enlistment, adding the product to the library and launching it on the target console.
Is PlayStation Plus required?
Squad is an online multiplayer game, so the normal PlayStation requirements for online multiplayer apply. The publisher’s cited console information does not announce a special PlayStation Plus exemption, a subscription bundle or a separate Game Pass arrangement for the full console release. Check the current PlayStation Store prompt on your account for the requirement that applies to your region and account type before joining online matches.
Can you play it on PS4 or Xbox?
Not this alpha. The current preview is PS5-only. The broader console edition is planned for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2027, but no exact launch date is announced in the cited information. Xbox Series X|S availability for that future release should not be confused with access to the present PS5 preview.
Does owning the PC version unlock the console alpha?
No. Ownership of the PC version does not grant a console copy, and the publisher says there is no cross-progression. Treat the PS5 preview as a separate console entitlement attached to your PlayStation account.

The console version is planned as digital-only, with no announced physical edition. The alpha therefore uses the digital PlayStation Store workflow described above.
What is and is not included in this preview
| Feature | Status for the PS5 alpha |
|---|---|
| Infantry Training | Included in the store listing |
| Pilot Training | Included in the store listing |
| Invasion Mode | Included as a limited skirmish sample |
| Gorodok | Named map for the included Invasion sample |
| Large-scale combined-arms play | The store describes 50-versus-50 battles and up to 99 online players |
| All planned launch modes | Not established for this alpha |
| All planned launch maps | Not established for this alpha |
The console FAQ describes the planned launch package, not a promise about every item in the preview. Its plans include AAS, RAAS, Invasion and Fireteam modes; six named maps—Al Basrah, Fallujah, Mutaha, Narva, Yehorivka and Gorodok; and eight factions. Planned console launch capacity is up to 100 players for PvP and five players for Fireteam PvE. Do not assume those future modes, maps, factions or player counts are all selectable in the limited alpha.
Make installation easier on a busy console
Start the claim while the PS5 is connected and not already handling a large update. If you add the item in a browser, give the console time to synchronize the library before searching repeatedly. A paused queue, a different user profile or nearly full storage can make a successful claim look like a missing game.
- Check Game Library, not only the games displayed on the PS5 home screen.
- Look in the download queue for a pending, paused or failed installation.
- Keep extra space available beyond the visible download figure because the console may need working room for installation or updates.
- Do not delete the entitlement or repeatedly purchase similarly named products while troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting the download and installation
The Download Alpha button does not open the store
- Reload the official alpha page and select the button again.
- Try the page in another current browser or on another device.
- Open the PlayStation Store separately on the PS5 and search for the exact product name, then compare the result with the listing details in the table above.
- Do not install files offered by third-party sites; the official flow ends in the PlayStation Store.
The listing asks you to pay
Confirm that you selected Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview, not another Squad product. The preview listing is described as free. If the correct listing still shows a charge, check that you are signed in to the intended account and that the preview window and listing availability have not changed.
You added it to the library but cannot find it on the PS5
- On the PS5, verify the signed-in user matches the PlayStation account used to select Add to Library.
- Open Game Library and search the collection for “Squad,” including items that are not currently installed.
- Check the PS5 download queue and notifications for a paused or failed installation.
- Restart the console and check the library again if the entitlement was added from a browser.
The installation stops or reports insufficient space
The official pages do not publish a guaranteed download size or minimum free-storage requirement. Check Settings > Storage on the PS5, remove or move enough unused content, and retry the download. Because the required size is not stated, leave more free space than the visible download figure if the console requests additional room for installation or updates.
You cannot join an online activity
- Confirm that your PlayStation account is signed in and that the console has a stable internet connection.
- Check whether the preview window is still open and whether the game has a pending update.
- Review the online-multiplayer subscription prompt shown by PlayStation for your account and region.
- Complete Infantry Training and Pilot Training first if the available menu directs you through onboarding before the Invasion sample.
The game behaves differently from videos of the full PC version
The PS5 alpha is a limited preview with training activities and a Gorodok Invasion sample. It is not evidence that every mode, map, faction or feature from the planned console edition is available now. Differences from PC footage or from the future launch plan are therefore expected.
What happens after the preview
The publisher’s console information points to a wider digital console edition planned for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2027, without an exact launch date. The planned edition is described separately from this time-limited alpha and is expected to include the listed launch modes, maps, factions and player capacities. No cross-progression is announced, so progress or ownership from another platform should not be assumed to carry over.
For the current preview, the practical path is simple: enlist on the official alpha page, add the free PS5 listing to the correct PlayStation account, install it from Game Library, and begin with the included training before trying the Gorodok Invasion skirmish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the official Squad PS5 alpha download?
Use alpha.joinsquad.com and select Download Alpha. That button leads to the official PlayStation Store listing for Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview.
Is the Squad PS5 Alpha free?
Yes. The PlayStation Store identifies the PS5 Alpha Preview as a free alpha/beta product. You still need to enlist through the official alpha page and claim it with a PlayStation account.
How do I install it after claiming it?
After selecting Add to Library, open Game Library on the target PS5, find the Squad Alpha Preview and choose Download or Install.
Do I need PlayStation Plus?
The listing requires a PlayStation account for online features, and normal PlayStation online-multiplayer requirements apply. Check the current subscription prompt for your account and region; no special exemption is announced.
Can I play this alpha on PS4, Xbox or PC?
No. This preview is PS5-only. A broader PS5 and Xbox Series X|S console edition is planned for 2027, while PC ownership does not unlock the PS5 entitlement.
How long is the preview available?
The announced window is October 16–25, 2026. Adding it to your library does not guarantee playability after that period.
What modes and maps are in the alpha?
The store lists Infantry Training, Pilot Training and a limited Invasion Mode skirmish on Gorodok. The future console plan lists additional modes and maps, but those are not confirmed as alpha content.
Why can’t I find the game after adding it to my library?
Confirm that the PS5 user matches the account used to claim the listing, search the complete Game Library, inspect the download queue and restart the console if the browser claim has not synchronized.
