Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds installs on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through the Microsoft Store. Sign in with the Microsoft account that should own the game, open the Store, find the official listing, choose an edition, buy it, and select Install. If you already own it, use My games & apps > Full library > Owned games instead. SEGA lists the Xbox versions as digital-only, so the normal Xbox installation is a store download rather than a disc installation.

Xbox compatibility and release information
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. SEGA announced the game’s launch for September 25, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The announcement is available from SEGA Corporation.

What you need before starting the download
Prepare the console and account first. These checks prevent most failed purchases, missing-library entries, and interrupted downloads.
- An internet connection: the Store must reach Microsoft’s services, and the console needs to remain online while the game and its updates are downloaded.
- The correct Microsoft account: use the account that should own the license. A purchase made on another account will not normally appear in this account’s owned-game list.
- Available console storage: check free space before selecting Install. If the queue pauses because storage is full, remove an unneeded game or app and retry.
- Current console software: menu labels can differ slightly after an Xbox system update, but the Store, library, and queue functions remain the same.
- An Xbox network sign-in for online play: the game can be installed without entering an online lobby, but multiplayer access may present current Xbox network or subscription prompts.
Do not start by searching for a disc. SEGA’s product page states that the PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and Epic Games versions are “Only available in digital format.” The official page is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Official Site.
How to buy and install a new Xbox copy
Use these steps when you have not yet purchased the game on the Microsoft account currently signed in to the console.
- Connect the Xbox to the internet. From the Home screen, verify that the console is online. A wired connection can be useful for a large download, but either wired or wireless networking can reach the Store.
- Sign in to the account that should own the game. Check the gamertag shown on the console before buying. This is the account to which the digital license will be attached.
- Open Microsoft Store. Select the Store tile or open it from the Xbox Home screen and wait for the storefront to load.
- Search for “Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.” Enter the full title rather than a shortened search such as “Sonic racing,” then open the official game result. Confirm that the listing identifies Xbox One and/or Xbox Series X|S support.
- Choose an edition. The Store may show a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. Read the live listing for the current regional price and the content included with that edition. Prices, discounts, and downloadable content can change by region and over time, so do not rely on an old screenshot or a price shown for another country.
- Complete the purchase. Follow the Microsoft Store payment prompts. If the Store asks you to confirm the account, region, or payment method, resolve that prompt before leaving the page.
- Select Install. After the transaction succeeds, the purchase page should offer an Install button. Select it and choose the Xbox storage location if the console presents more than one option.
- Check the download queue. Open My games & apps > Manage > Queue. The exact wording can vary with a system update, but the queue is where Xbox shows the current download, installation progress, and pending updates.
- Leave the console connected. Keep the Xbox online and avoid interrupting power while the download and any required update finish. You can launch the game after the queue reports that installation is complete.
If the Store page still shows a price after you believe you have paid, stop before buying again. Open the order history for the same Microsoft account or check My games & apps > Full library > Owned games to verify whether the license has already been recorded.
How to install a copy you already own
You do not need to purchase the game again when it is already associated with the signed-in Microsoft account.

- Open My games & apps from the Xbox Home screen.
- Choose Full library.
- Open Owned games and browse or search for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
- Select the game, then choose Install.
- Open My games & apps > Manage > Queue to watch the download and installation.
You can also open the game’s Microsoft Store page while signed in. An owned title should offer installation rather than asking you to purchase it again. If the page and the library disagree, use the troubleshooting section below instead of starting a second transaction.
Choosing between the available editions
The Xbox storefront can display more than one edition, including a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The exact names, prices, discounts, and included downloadable content depend on your region and can change after launch.

There is no universal price to quote because the Store presents regional currency, tax treatment, promotions, and edition availability dynamically. Read the product page immediately before payment rather than relying on a cached result.
Why there is no Xbox disc installation path
SEGA’s official product page identifies the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions as digital-only. That means the supported Xbox route is the Microsoft/Xbox Store download described above. An Xbox disc marketed for another game, another platform, or another region is not a substitute for the digital Xbox license.
If you already have a disc in hand and the console does not recognize it as Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, check the label carefully. SEGA’s current listing does not promise an Xbox physical edition, so do not expect a disc-based install button to appear. Availability could change only if SEGA or Xbox updates the official product information.

What happens after installation
Once the queue reaches completion, start the game from My games & apps or the Home screen. The Xbox listing describes a racing game built around 24 tracks and 15 CrossWorlds. It also lists local split-screen play, online lobbies for up to 12 players, and cross-platform multiplayer. Those features are part of the official listing at Xbox.

Local split-screen is the option to look for when multiple players are using the same Xbox. Connect the additional controllers, sign in the players as prompted, and select the local multiplayer mode from the game menu. The Xbox listing confirms the mode’s availability; the exact on-screen prompts can change with game updates.
Online 12-player lobbies
Online lobbies support up to 12 players according to the Xbox product page. Sign in to the Xbox account you intend to use online and follow any current Xbox network or subscription prompt shown by the console. The game must be fully updated before an online session can work reliably.
Cross-platform multiplayer
The listing also identifies cross-platform multiplayer. This describes online play with people on supported platforms, but it does not change the Xbox installation process: you still need the Xbox digital license and a completed local installation.

The game is not in Owned games
First, verify the account. Sign out or switch profiles if the purchase was made under a different Microsoft account, then reopen My games & apps > Full library > Owned games. A purchase can only appear as owned for the account that completed the transaction, subject to the account and console-sharing arrangements configured on Xbox.

Next, open the official Store page while signed in. If it still shows a purchase option, check the account’s Microsoft order history before paying again. If the transaction is recent, give the Store a moment to synchronize, then restart the console and check the library again.
The Install button is missing
Open the Store result that specifically names Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and confirms Xbox compatibility. Search results can include similarly worded pages or add-on entries. If you own the game, the button should be available from the owned-game library or the product page. A missing button can also occur when the Store has not finished loading the account state; close and reopen the Store, restart the Xbox, and retry.
The download is stuck or paused
- Open My games & apps > Manage > Queue and inspect the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds entry.
- Check whether another large game, update, or app is using the queue. Pause or finish the competing item if necessary.
- Confirm that the Xbox is still connected to the internet.
- Check available storage and free space if the queue reports a storage-related message.
- Restart the console, reopen the queue, and resume the download.
Do not repeatedly cancel and restart a large download unless the queue remains unresponsive after a restart; each restart can discard progress and lengthen the installation.
The installation fails near the end
Look for a storage warning first. Remove an unneeded game or app, then retry from the queue. If space is available, restart the Xbox and start the installation again from Owned games or the official Store page. A required update may be waiting behind the base download, so allow the queue to finish every Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds item before launching.

Prices, discounts, and edition contents are regional and change over time. Confirm the console’s account and region, then refresh the live product page. Do not treat a price from a different country, an expired promotion, or another edition as the amount you will be charged.

A disc does not start the game
Check whether the disc is actually for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and whether it is labeled for Xbox. SEGA’s official listing currently describes the Xbox versions as digital-only, so a disc may be for a different platform or a different product. The supported solution is to use the Xbox Store listing rather than trying to force a disc installation.
Online play is unavailable after installation
Finish all updates shown in the queue, sign in to the intended Xbox account, and follow any current Xbox network or subscription prompts. Confirm that the console is online before entering a lobby. If local split-screen works but online modes do not, the installation is present; the remaining issue is account, network, service, or subscription access rather than the download itself.

When contacting support, include the Xbox model, the Microsoft account used for the purchase, the exact queue message, and whether the Store page or the Owned games library shows the title.
