To turn off voice chat in Marvel Rivals, open Settings → Audio → Voice Chat and switch it off. To remove the text-chat panel and messaging, open Settings → Keyboard and Controller → Communications, scroll to the chat controls, and use Hide Chat. On the PC guide, the example Hide Chat binding is Ctrl+Shift+C; your key or controller binding can differ.
These are separate systems. Disabling voice does not disable text chat, and hiding text chat does not necessarily disable pings. Change each control that matches what you want to stop, then test in a low-stakes match or the practice area.

Quick answer: the two settings you need
Marvel Rivals splits player communication into voice chat, text chat and pings. There is no single control in the documented settings that is confirmed to disable every channel on every platform.

If you want the quietest possible match, switch off Voice Chat and enable Hide Chat separately. If you still want useful callouts but want to avoid specific language, leave chat available and configure Custom Muted Words instead.

Open the Settings menu on PC, Xbox or PS5
The same settings categories are available on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5, but the button used to open the menu differs. Menu labels and key bindings can also change with localization, controller layout or a future game update.
- PC: Press Esc during a match or from the game’s menus.
- Xbox: Press the controller’s Menu button.
- PlayStation 5: Press Options.
- Any platform from the home screen: Select the gear icon to open Settings.
Opening Settings from the pause menu does not leave the match. If you cannot find a control at the stated location, check that you are in the game’s own Settings rather than the console’s general audio or accessibility menu.
Turn off voice chat
Step 1: enter Audio
Open Settings and select Audio. Look for the control named Voice Chat. The current communications instructions describe this as the master voice-chat setting.
Step 2: switch Voice Chat off
Set Voice Chat to Off. This stops the game’s voice-chat feature for the account or session covered by that setting. It is the correct in-game switch when you want to stop hearing teammates through the game’s voice channel.
Step 3: verify the result
Return to the match and listen for voice activity. If you still hear a teammate, do not assume the setting failed immediately: check the troubleshooting section below for audio being mixed through a console, operating-system or headset control.

Voice Chat is independent of text chat. Turning it off does not hide the text-chat window, prevent text messages or alter pings.
Hide text chat completely
Step 1: open the communications controls
From Settings, choose Keyboard and Controller, then open Communications. Scroll to the lower chat controls rather than stopping at the first communication bindings.

Step 2: use Hide Chat
Select Hide Chat and activate it. The PC communications guide gives Ctrl+Shift+C as its example binding. Treat that as an example, not a guaranteed default: bindings can differ by platform, keyboard layout and any changes you have made.
Step 3: understand what Hide Chat does
When Hide Chat is active, the guide says incoming chat is hidden and you cannot send messages. This is broader than muting one player because it removes the text-chat channel itself. It also removes useful team communication, so use it when a completely clear chat feed matters more than written coordination.
Hide Chat is separate from Voice Chat. If you want both channels disabled, return to Audio and switch off Voice Chat as well.

Use Custom Muted Words when you want filtering, not total silence
If unwanted language is the problem but you still need text communication, use Custom Muted Words instead of Hide Chat. NetEase’s Season 3.5 patch notes describe this feature as filtering messages that contain player-selected muted words.
- Add the words or terms you do not want to see to your custom list.
- Leave text chat enabled so ordinary team messages remain available.
- Remember that this is a text filter; it does not turn off voice chat and is not a replacement for the Voice Chat switch.
- Review the list if your needs change. A filter is more selective than Hide Chat, while Hide Chat blocks the entire documented text-chat channel.
The feature is useful for players who want to reduce exposure to specific insults or recurring spam while retaining written callouts. It does not establish a universal “mute everything” mode.
Voice, text and pings: choose the right scope
Many settings problems come from changing one communication system and expecting another to disappear. Use this scope check before a match:
- Voice only: switch off Voice Chat under Audio. Text messages and pings remain separate.
- Text only: activate Hide Chat under Keyboard and Controller → Communications. Voice remains available until you disable it.
- Voice and text: perform both changes. There is no documented single switch confirmed to cover both on PC, Xbox and PS5.
- Selected text: use Custom Muted Words. This leaves the rest of text chat available.
- Pings: inspect the communications controls for a separate ping option. The documented voice and text switches do not automatically disable pings.
This separation also explains why muting a headset microphone is not enough: a hardware microphone mute can stop your microphone from transmitting, but it does not hide incoming text or necessarily stop incoming voice audio.
Platform-specific notes
PC
Use Esc to open Settings, then follow the Audio path for Voice Chat or the Keyboard and Controller path for Hide Chat. The communications guide records Ctrl+Shift+C as a PC example for Hide Chat. If that combination does nothing, open the binding list and assign a key you can press reliably; the example is not evidence that every PC installation uses the same assignment.

Xbox
Press the controller’s Menu button to reach Settings, then use the same in-game categories: Audio → Voice Chat and Keyboard and Controller → Communications → Hide Chat. Controller prompts and translated labels may not match the wording shown in a PC guide. If the console is muting game audio globally, fix that separately from the in-game setting.
PlayStation 5
Press Options to open the pause menu, or select the gear icon from the home screen. Use the in-game Voice Chat and Hide Chat controls first. PS5 also has a system-level option named Mute Game Voice Chat; this is a console audio control and a useful troubleshooting check when voice remains audible. It is not a substitute for setting the game’s own Voice Chat option if you want the game configuration to reflect your preference.
Can you permanently mute every chat channel?
The available documentation confirms the Hide Chat control and platform-specific settings, but it does not establish one official, platform-independent permanent switch that disables voice, text and pings together on every installation. Persistence can therefore depend on the setting, platform and current game version.
After changing the controls, reopen Settings before a later session to confirm that the values are still what you expect. If Hide Chat or Voice Chat has reverted, apply the setting again and check whether a platform profile, controller layout or localization has moved the control. Avoid relying on a hardware mute as proof that the in-game setting was saved: a hardware switch affects the device, not the game’s text-chat configuration.
A January 2025 Steam Community answer reports disabling voice in Audio and turning off the top Social boxes. That is player experience, not official documentation, so treat it as a possible workaround rather than a guaranteed cross-platform procedure.

Work through these checks in order. They distinguish a game setting problem from audio being enabled elsewhere.
- Recheck the in-game switch. Open Settings → Audio and confirm Voice Chat is off. If the label or position differs, look for the equivalent voice-chat master control in the Audio section.
- Check the headset’s physical mute and monitoring controls. A headset can mix incoming game audio even when its microphone is muted. Make sure you are changing the playback or chat-audio control, not only the microphone switch.
- Check the operating system’s audio mixer on PC. Confirm that the game is not being routed through a separate communications device or mixer that is still playing voice audio.
- Check the controller or platform mute state. Console party-chat and system audio controls can sit outside the game. A platform-level setting may override what you expect from the game menu.
- On PS5, check Mute Game Voice Chat. This system option can mute game voice when the in-game setting alone has not produced the expected result.
- Test with another output device. If voice disappears when you change headphones or speakers, the original device or its mixer is the likely source. This test does not change the game’s text-chat setting.
These checks are troubleshooting steps, not replacements for the in-game Voice Chat control. If your goal is to stop all communication, also confirm that Hide Chat is active; a silent headset does not hide text messages.
What to do if Hide Chat does not behave as expected
- The chat panel is still visible: return to Keyboard and Controller → Communications, scroll to the lower controls and activate Hide Chat itself. Do not stop after changing a general Social or notification option.
- The shortcut does nothing on PC: verify the current binding. Ctrl+Shift+C is the guide’s example, not a universal promise. Assign a non-conflicting key if necessary.
- You can still hear teammates: Hide Chat concerns the documented text-chat channel. Turn off Voice Chat separately and apply the audio checks above.
- You no longer receive useful callouts: switch Hide Chat back off and use Custom Muted Words for selective text filtering, or leave text available and disable voice only.
- Controls appear in a different place: check your platform and language. The labels and bindings can vary by localization and platform.
Why players may choose to disable communication
NetEase’s current moderation policy describes a combination of automated detection, player reports and manual review for text and voice chat. The policy identifies insults, threats, harassment, discrimination, hate speech, doxing, violent threats, spam and other prohibited content. Disabling a channel can reduce what reaches you, but it does not replace reporting behavior that violates the rules.

Voice Chat off is appropriate when spoken audio is distracting. Custom Muted Words is suited to recurring text terms. Hide Chat is the strongest text option, but it also removes legitimate strategy messages from teammates.
Re-enable voice or text chat
Restore voice
Open Settings → Audio and switch Voice Chat back on. If you use a headset or console mute control, restore that device control too so the game’s setting and the platform’s audio path agree.
Restore text
Open Settings → Keyboard and Controller → Communications and deactivate Hide Chat. If you assigned a different key, use the current binding shown in the menu rather than assuming Ctrl+Shift+C.
Keep filtering instead of restoring everything
If you want text messages but not selected terms, leave Hide Chat off and maintain your Custom Muted Words list. This gives you a middle ground between a fully open chat and a completely hidden feed.

Before your next match: a one-minute checklist
- Open Settings with Esc, Menu, Options or the home-screen gear.
- Confirm Audio → Voice Chat is off if you do not want spoken audio.
- Confirm Keyboard and Controller → Communications → Hide Chat is active if you do not want text chat.
- Check the Hide Chat binding; Ctrl+Shift+C is only the documented PC example.
- Decide separately whether pings should remain available.
- If you use selective filtering, review Custom Muted Words rather than hiding the whole text channel.
- Test your headset, system mute and controller settings if voice audio persists.
- Remember that hiding chat removes useful teammate communication as well as unwanted messages.
With these controls, you can disable voice, hide text, filter selected words or combine the options without confusing one communication channel for another.
