To disable structure-placement collision on a dedicated ARK server, open Game.ini and add bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=true beneath the [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode] section. Save the file, restart the server, and then test a new placement. The default value is False; changing it to True allows structures to clip into terrain and environmental obstacles.

bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=trueIf that section already exists, add only the Boolean line below it. Do not create a second copy of the same section unless the file is genuinely missing the header. The setting uses the standard option=value format: the key on the left, an equals sign, and the value on the right.
The normal default is False. With True, ARK permits structures to overlap terrain and environmental obstacles that would normally block placement. This makes building possible in tighter or uneven locations, but it also removes part of the collision protection that keeps structures separated from the environment.

First identify which ARK mode you are running
The correct procedure depends on whether you administer a dedicated server or play locally.

Do not use the dedicated-server file procedure for a normal single-player session unless you are intentionally managing a local server configuration. For Host/Local play, the checkbox is the supported and simpler route.
Find the dedicated server’s Game.ini file
The official dedicated-server locations differ by operating system:

These are paths inside the ARK server installation. A hosting control panel may hide the folders behind a configuration editor, but the file being edited is still Game.ini. If a panel offers separate editors for Game.ini and GameUserSettings.ini, choose Game.ini; this option belongs in that file.
Dedicated-server procedure
1. Stop the server before editing
Stop the server cleanly before changing the file whenever your control panel or service manager allows it. Editing while the process is running can leave the live process using its already-loaded configuration, and a later shutdown may overwrite an unsaved change. If your provider presents a single power control, use the stop action first and wait until the server is reported as offline.
2. Open Game.ini
Navigate to the operating-system path above, or open the panel’s file manager and select Game.ini. Make a backup copy before changing a production server. A backup gives you a quick rollback if another configuration value is accidentally changed.

3. Locate or create the ShooterGameMode section
Search the file for this exact header:
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]If it is already present, leave the header where it is and add the setting on a new line in that section. If the file does not contain the header, add the header and the setting together. Keep the spelling, brackets, slash, dots, and capitalization exactly as shown.
4. Add the Boolean value
Place this line under the section header:
bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=trueThere should be no quotation marks, commas, or extra punctuation. The value is a Boolean, not a number. Use true to disable placement collision. To restore normal collision later, change the value to false or remove the line, then restart the server again.
5. Save the file
Save the edited file as plain text with the filename Game.ini. Confirm that your editor did not create a second extension such as Game.ini.txt. In a web panel, use its explicit save or apply button; closing the editor without saving does not change the server configuration.
6. Start or restart the server
Start the stopped server, or use the panel’s restart command if it provides one. A save alone is not enough: the server must be restarted so it reloads Game.ini. Some panels describe this as saving the configuration and turning the server back on; operationally, both parts matter.

Verify that the change loaded
After the server reports that it is online, connect and attempt a new structure placement in an area where terrain or an environmental obstacle previously prevented construction. Test with a disposable piece first rather than committing a large build. If the piece can now be placed in the formerly blocked location, the setting is active.
Testing a new placement is important because the option changes placement rules. It is not a general command for moving an existing structure, repairing a damaged structure, or changing ownership. Those are separate game actions and are not provided by this configuration key.

If the test behaves exactly as it did before, work through the troubleshooting section instead of repeatedly adding duplicate lines. Duplicate sections and conflicting entries make the file harder to audit and do not replace the need for a restart.
Using a hosting control panel
Managed ARK panels use different labels, but the workflow is consistent:
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Open the configuration or file-management area and choose
Game.ini. - Find the
[/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]section, or add it if it is absent. - Insert
bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=trueon its own line. - Save or apply the file.
- Start the server again, or use the panel’s restart control.
If the panel exposes a ShooterGameMode template, use the field corresponding to structure-placement collision rather than placing the key in an unrelated settings group. If the panel does not expose a template, use its raw Game.ini editor and enter the exact section and line shown above.
Panels can also provide backup or rollback controls. Use them before editing when available, especially on a server with an established build. The critical capabilities are access to Game.ini, a clear save action, and a reliable restart control; advertised hosting performance or pricing is unrelated to whether this setting can be loaded.
Single-player and Host/Local instructions
For a local game, you do not need to locate a dedicated-server directory. From the ARK main menu, open the single-player or Host/Local setup screen, switch to the Advanced settings, and enable Disable Structure Placement Collision. Apply the settings and launch the session.
The checkbox represents the same behavior as the server Boolean: structures may clip into terrain and environmental obstacles. If you later want normal placement restrictions, return to Advanced settings and clear the checkbox before starting the next session.

Common reasons the setting appears not to work
The line is in GameUserSettings.ini
This key belongs in Game.ini, not GameUserSettings.ini. Move it to the dedicated-server path listed for your operating system, under the ShooterGameMode header, then save and restart.
The section header is misspelled
Use the exact header [/script/shootergame.shootergamemode]. A missing bracket, an extra space inside the brackets, a different script name, or a typo in shootergamemode can prevent ARK from associating the key with the game mode.
The Boolean key is mistyped
The key must be bDisableStructurePlacementCollision. Check the initial lowercase b, the word boundaries, and the final Collision. Do not replace it with a similar-sounding placement or building option.

Configuration values are loaded when the server starts. After saving, fully restart the server and wait for it to come back online before testing. Simply reconnecting to an already-running process does not reload the file.
You edited a different server instance
Hosts often keep separate directories for multiple ARK instances, maps, or test servers. Confirm that the path you opened belongs to the instance your players join. A correct line in an unused instance will have no effect on the active server.
The panel did not commit the change
Some control panels require an Apply, Save, or Confirm action after the text editor closes. Reopen Game.ini after saving and verify that the line is still present. If it has disappeared, use the panel’s configuration-save workflow rather than only closing the editor.
You are testing in a local session
The dedicated-server file has no effect on a separate single-player or Host/Local session. Enable the Advanced checkbox in that session instead. Conversely, changing the local checkbox will not alter a remote dedicated server.
You are expecting existing placements to change automatically
Use a new, disposable placement to verify the option. The setting controls whether a placement is accepted under the collision rules; it is not a command to relocate structures that are already built.
What disabling collision changes
- More permissive locations: Structures can be placed where terrain or environmental obstacles would normally block them.
- Clipping is allowed: Parts of a structure may overlap the terrain or an obstacle instead of stopping at the collision boundary.
- Normal safeguards are reduced: The server no longer enforces the usual structure-placement collision restriction for this setting.
- Build quality becomes an administrative choice: The setting can solve awkward terrain problems, but it can also permit overlaps that a server owner considers undesirable.
Because the change affects every player using that server, decide whether the more permissive behavior fits the server’s building rules. Explain the rule to players before enabling it on a community server, particularly if existing builds were created under normal collision limits.

Restoring normal structure collision
To undo the change on a dedicated server, stop the server, open the same Game.ini, and either change the line to:
bDisableStructurePlacementCollision=falseor remove the line while leaving other configuration entries intact. Save the file and restart the server. For single-player or Host/Local play, clear Disable Structure Placement Collision in the Advanced settings before launching the session.

Recommended workflow for administrators
- Decide whether clipping into terrain and environmental obstacles is acceptable for the server’s building rules.
- Back up the active configuration.
- Stop the correct server instance.
- Edit the operating-system-specific
Game.iniunder the ShooterGameMode section. - Save, restart, and test a new placement.
- Record the change so another administrator knows why collision behavior differs from the default.
The essential configuration is only one line, but all of the surrounding steps matter. The default is restrictive collision; the explicit value true enables clipping, and the server restart is what makes the change effective.
