To stop Steam’s bouncing logo, open Steam in Big Picture or Game Mode, then go to Settings > Customization. In the screensaver section, select the game-art slideshow or choose Off if that option is shown in your client. If you only want to prevent the animation during play, enable Disable the screensaver when in game instead.
These controls were added to the stable Steam Client on October 13, 2026. They apply to Steam’s Big Picture interface, including Steam Deck Game Mode, and do not require any hardware or accessory.

Quick fix: turn off the bouncing logo
The bouncing logo is a selectable Steam screensaver, not a permanent part of the interface. You can replace it globally, turn the idle screensaver off where your client provides an off option, or suppress screensavers only while a game is running.
- Open Steam in Big Picture or Game Mode. On a Steam Deck, remain in Game Mode.
- Open Settings.
- Select Customization.
- Find the screensaver section.
- Select the game-art slideshow, or select Off if your client shows an off toggle.
- Back out of Settings and leave Steam idle long enough to confirm that the bouncing logo no longer appears.
If the logo is appearing while you are playing, use the separate Disable the screensaver when in game setting. That leaves the normal idle screensaver behavior available outside a game but prevents it from starting during gameplay.

Which setting should you use?
Steam has two different decisions: what happens when the interface is idle, and whether a screensaver is allowed to run during a game. Choosing the wrong control can make it seem as though the setting did not work.

The first choice changes the general idle behavior. The second is contextual: it affects games in progress rather than replacing the screensaver you see when Steam is simply left unattended.
What changed in the October 13, 2026 Steam client update?
Valve’s stable Steam Client update shipped on October 13, 2026 and added a screensaver feature under Settings > Customization. The update lists two built-in screensaver choices:

The bouncing logo is therefore one selectable option, not an unavoidable default. Valve also added a setting to disable the screensaver when a game is in progress. The exact controls can vary slightly by client build; an Off control is exposed in the Customization area in some builds, while others present the game-art slideshow as the alternative visible selection.

On Steam Deck, make the change from Game Mode rather than switching to the desktop environment. The navigation is the same:

- Press the Steam button and open Settings.
- Choose Customization.
- Scroll to the screensaver controls.
- Choose the game-art slideshow or turn the screensaver off if an Off option is present.
- If the problem occurs only while a game is running, enable Disable the screensaver when in game.
After changing the setting, return to the main Game Mode interface. Leave the Deck untouched for the period that normally triggers the screensaver. This confirms the setting in the same mode where the problem occurs.
Big Picture instructions on a desktop PC
The screensaver selector is part of Steam’s Big Picture/Game Mode interface. If you normally use the desktop library view, switch into Big Picture first, then follow the same menu path:

- Start Steam and enter Big Picture/Game Mode.
- Open Settings.
- Open Customization.
- Change the screensaver selection away from the bouncing logo.
- Enable Disable the screensaver when in game if you want suppression during gameplay.
Changing the selection in this interface is a software setting. You do not need to disconnect a controller, alter display hardware, or install another application.
How to choose between the built-in options
Game-art slideshow
The game-art slideshow is the built-in replacement for the bouncing logo. It keeps an idle visual display without showing the logo animation. Use it when you want Steam to remain visually active while the system is unattended.
Off, when available
Some current client builds expose an Off control in the same Customization section. Select it when you want no Steam screensaver at all. Because Valve’s update describes the feature and its two built-in choices, but client interfaces can change as updates roll out, look for the Off option in the screensaver area rather than assuming it will appear on every build.

Disable the screensaver when in game
This setting is narrower. It prevents the screensaver from starting while a game is in progress, but it does not necessarily remove the idle screensaver from menus or other non-game situations. Choose it when the bouncing logo interrupts play, obscures a game, or appears while a controller is connected and you are waiting in a title.
If the bouncing logo still appears
Work through these checks in order. Each one addresses a different reason the animation may still be visible.
Confirm that you changed the Game Mode setting
The screensaver controls are located under Big Picture/Game Mode’s Settings > Customization menu. If you changed a different Steam settings page in the desktop interface, return to Big Picture/Game Mode and make the selection there.
Check whether you changed the global or in-game control
If the logo appears only when Steam is idle outside a game, use the screensaver selection itself. If it appears while a game is running, turn on Disable the screensaver when in game. These controls address different contexts.
Verify the selected option
Reopen Settings > Customization and check which screensaver is selected. Choose the game-art slideshow or Off, where available, rather than leaving the bouncing logo selected. Back out of the menu after making the change so Steam can apply it.

Test in the mode where the issue occurs
A Steam Deck in Game Mode should be tested in Game Mode. A desktop installation should be tested in Big Picture/Game Mode if that is where the screensaver appears. Leave the interface idle long enough to trigger the behavior, then confirm the result.
Allow for client-interface differences
Valve introduced this feature in the October 13, 2026 stable client update. If your menu does not exactly match the labels above, look within Customization for the screensaver selector and the in-game suppression setting. The feature may be presented with slightly different wording as client updates roll out.

If you want an idle display but do not want either built-in choice, Valve documents a custom screensaver override location:
~/.steam/root/config/uioverrides/screensavers/Place your custom screensaver files in that directory. Valve recommends using the built-in bouncing-logo files in steamui/screensavers as an example when preparing a custom replacement.

If your goal is a blank or inactive display, use the Off control when your client provides it. If you only need the display suppressed during gameplay, use the in-game setting instead.
Important limits of the custom-file approach
- The override directory is a configuration path, not a menu switch. A file placed elsewhere will not replace the built-in screensaver.
- Use the existing files in
steamui/screensaversas the structural example, as Valve recommends, rather than assuming that any image or video file will work. - Custom files change what Steam displays when idle; they do not replace the separate Disable the screensaver when in game control.
Understanding when the screensaver activates
The bouncing logo is shown by Steam’s screensaver system when the relevant interface is idle. It is not a physical display feature and does not require a special Steam Deck accessory. That is why the fix is found in Steam’s software settings rather than in the operating system’s monitor or power controls.
If your monitor itself is turning off, dimming, or showing a different operating-system animation, that is a separate display or power-management behavior. The Steam setting controls Steam’s own screensaver selection and its behavior during games.
A practical decision guide
- You never want to see the bouncing logo: open Settings > Customization and select the game-art slideshow or Off.
- You only dislike it during a game: enable Disable the screensaver when in game.
- You want a different idle animation: use the documented
~/.steam/root/config/uioverrides/screensavers/override directory and follow the built-in files as an example. - You changed a setting but still see the logo: verify the selection in Big Picture/Game Mode, check the separate in-game setting, and test in the same mode that shows the problem.
What the change does not affect
Changing Steam’s screensaver selection does not remove games, alter controller mappings, change display resolution, or disable Steam’s general idle behavior outside the selected screensaver feature. It only chooses what Steam displays when idle, or whether Steam suppresses that display while a game is running.
