Hunt: Showdown 1896 stutter and texture problems do not necessarily share one cause. Late or low-resolution textures, grey placeholders, white patches, invisible assets, and brief frame-time stalls are distinct symptoms. Identify which one you see, your platform and GPU, and when it happens before trying a fix.
First, identify the symptom and when it appears
Write down what the problem looks like and when it occurs. That information helps distinguish a rendering or loading issue from performance degradation and makes any support report more useful.

- Late or blurry textures: surfaces appear low-resolution or take time to sharpen after you enter an area.
- Grey placeholders or invisible assets: objects, Hunters, items, or weapons fail to render normally.
- White patches or shapes: textures appear as white areas or artifacts, especially on particular character or animal models.
- Stutter: the picture briefly stalls or becomes uneven, whether on map entry, in a particular location, during combat, or after several rounds.
Record your platform, GPU model, graphics preset, game version, and whether the issue began after a named update. Note if it happens only after a long session or several rounds, and whether GPU-intensive applications are running in the background.
What official reports say about these problems
Crytek’s December 9, 2024 Developer Insight about Update 2.1.1 bugs and fixes described objects, Hunters, and items failing to load and appearing with grey placeholder textures. The Hunt team said invisible weapons were likely related to that texture-loading problem. This documents a historical game-side regression; it does not establish that the same bug remains in the current version.

Crytek also reported that, in some situations, the game exceeded the video-memory budget allowed by the operating system, leading to a performance penalty. Its advice was to close GPU-intensive applications, or, if those applications were necessary, open them before launching the game. The team said reducing the in-game VRAM usage target from the default 80 to 70 might help affected systems. This was targeted guidance in a December 2024 post, not a guaranteed fix or confirmation that the current interface still uses the same setting and values.
Stutter can also have other game-side causes. In a November 2024 performance insight, Crytek discussed VRAM overload across multiple rounds, intermittent stalling, and map locations associated with frame drops or stutters, with fixes planned for Update 2.2. That account does not show that all current stutter has one cause.
Try the relevant steps for your symptom
If performance worsens during a long session or after several rounds
- Close GPU-intensive applications before launching Hunt and check whether the problem changes.
- If you need those applications open, try Crytek’s historical sequencing advice: open them before starting the game.
- If your current game settings expose a VRAM usage target, test a lower value such as 70 against the default 80 Crytek cited in December 2024. Change only this setting for the test and compare the same location or session conditions. The current menu or setting may differ.
These steps are most relevant when the pattern resembles the video-memory issue Crytek described; they are not a general remedy for every stutter.

If textures are grey, late, or missing
Check the latest official release notes for a patch addressing the particular texture-loading symptom, especially if it began after an update. Crytek documented grey placeholders and likely related invisible weapons in December 2024, but that report alone cannot establish their current status.
If you use Intel Arc and see white artifacts
Intel’s support article, last reviewed June 2, 2026, describes reports of white texture glitches on horses and human shapes with Intel Arc graphics on the high graphics preset. Intel lists the issue as under investigation and does not provide a workaround in that article. Do not treat this vendor-specific report as an explanation for artifacts on other GPUs or as evidence that the issue has been fixed. See Intel’s support article for its listed status.
Check current patch status before assuming a bug is fixed
Hunt: Showdown 1896’s launch on August 15, 2024 integrated CRYENGINE 5.11, moved the game to DirectX 12, and added DLSS and FSR, according to Crytek’s launch overview. These are rendering and configuration context, not evidence that enabling a particular upscaling option will fix stutter or texture glitches.

Crytek’s official release-notes index listed Update 2.9.1 notes dated October 5, 2026, and Blood Testament Chapter 2 notes dated October 6, 2026, when checked October 7, 2026. What to send support if the issue persists
Share a reproducible description with Crytek or the relevant hardware vendor. Include:
- Platform and GPU model, plus driver and game versions.
- Graphics preset and any relevant rendering settings.
- The visual symptom: late or blurry textures, grey placeholders, white artifacts, invisible assets, or stutter.
- Where and when it happens, including whether it starts on map entry, in a particular area, during combat, or after multiple rounds.
- How long the game has been running and whether GPU-intensive applications are open.
- The update after which you first noticed the problem, if known.
Change one setting at a time when testing so you can tell whether it affected the symptom. The official sources cited here do not establish shader-cache deletion, driver rollback, configuration-file edits, hardware replacement, or third-party repair software as fixes for these specific problems.
