Google Antigravity does not host your public website. Use it to create or edit the project, build a production version, and then deploy that output to a VPS. On the VPS, a web server such as nginx serves static files, or a process manager keeps a server-rendered Node application running. The reliable sequence is: validate the project locally, build it for production, copy the correct output to the VPS, configure the web server, point DNS to the server, and enable HTTPS.
Antihost offers Linux VPS plans with full root access, unlimited traffic on a 1 Gbps port and a 14-day free trial.
No official Google, step-by-step VPS deployment guide is currently published for this workflow. The exact Antigravity interface and generated project structure can therefore change. The commands below use conventional Linux VPS tooling; check the requirements of your project and distribution before running them.

What “deploy from Antigravity” actually means
Antigravity is a development tool. It can generate files, modify code, and help you iterate on an application, but it is not the component that answers requests from visitors. Deployment is the process of turning that project into files or a running application on another machine.
There are two separate activities that are often confused:

- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
- Hosting the website: a VPS web server (for example, nginx) serves HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, and other build artifacts, or proxies requests to an application process.
- Running Antigravity remotely: you install a command-line or graphical development environment on a server and connect to it over SSH or Remote Desktop. That can keep an agent session available, but it does not publish the site by itself.
For a normal public site, build with Antigravity on your workstation (or in a controlled build environment), then deploy the resulting artifact. Run Antigravity on the VPS only when you have a specific remote-development requirement.
Choose the deployment model before touching the server
Look at the project files and its package scripts. The hosting design depends on whether the production result is only files or requires a long-running process.
| Project result | What the VPS must run | Typical deployment target | Important detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Static HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets | nginx or another web server | The framework’s output folder, such as dist/, build/ or out/ |
No Node process is needed after the files are copied. |
| Single-page application with client-side routing | nginx plus a fallback rule | The same static output folder | Unknown paths usually need to serve index.html so the client router can handle them. |
| Server-rendered or API application | Node (or the runtime specified by the project), a process manager, and nginx as a reverse proxy | The application source and its production dependencies | Environment variables, ports, logs, restarts and database access become operational responsibilities. |
| Application with a database or background jobs | All of the above plus a database and worker strategy | Source, migrations, assets and persistent storage | Backups, migrations and secret management must be planned separately from the web server. |
If you cannot identify which category applies, inspect package.json, the README, and the build configuration. A script named build often creates static output, while scripts such as start, serve or a framework-specific production command may indicate a server process. Do not assume that a folder named .next/ can be served as ordinary static files; many Next.js deployments require the framework’s Node server unless the project was explicitly configured for static export.
Prepare the project for production
Remove development-only material
Before committing or copying anything, remove files that were created for experiments rather than the live site. Examples include test-data.json, debug.log, temporary directories such as tmp/, generated screenshots, and local exports. Leaving them in a public web root can disclose data or create confusing behavior.
Find local-only URLs and settings
Search the project for hardcoded values such as localhost, 127.0.0.1, development ports, and test API endpoints. Replace them with production configuration or environment variables. A browser application may need its API base URL embedded at build time; changing a server-side environment variable after a static build will not rewrite already-generated JavaScript.
Check dependencies and case sensitivity
Use the package manager and lockfile that the project already uses. A dependency installed globally or present only in your workstation’s cache may be absent on the VPS. Linux filesystems are commonly case-sensitive, so an import of ./Header can fail when the file is actually named header, even if it worked on a case-insensitive development machine.

Keep secrets out of the repository
Do not commit API keys, database passwords, private certificates or provider tokens. Put production values in the VPS environment or a protected environment file with restrictive permissions. Remember that variables intentionally exposed to browser code are not secret; a static site sends those values to every visitor.
Build and test the production artifact locally
A development server can conceal missing imports, type errors, incorrect case, and undeclared packages. The most valuable pre-deployment check is a clean production build on a machine that starts from the repository rather than your existing dependency cache.
- Install the declared dependencies. From the project directory, use the lockfile-aware command for your package manager. For npm projects this is commonly
npm ci; usepnpm install --frozen-lockfileoryarn install --frozen-lockfilewhen those tools and lockfiles are already in use. - Run the project’s production build script. A common npm invocation is
npm run build. Use the exact script defined by the project rather than inventing a framework command. - Treat every build error as a deployment blocker. Fix type errors, unresolved imports, missing environment variables, failed asset generation and lint or test failures required by the project.
- Locate the generated output. Common names are
dist/,build/andout/. A.next/directory generally belongs to a Next.js runtime workflow unless static export was configured. - Serve the real output folder locally. For a static artifact, a command such as
npx serve dist(substitute the actual folder) helps reveal broken relative paths, missing assets and client-side routing problems. Test the same URL patterns that visitors will use, including a deep link such as/about.
Do not copy the development server’s process or its source directory to nginx and call that deployment. nginx should receive the production artifact, while a server-rendered application should be started with its documented production command.
Put the project in version control
Create a private Git repository if the source contains proprietary code or configuration. Commit the source, lockfile and deployment configuration, but not build caches, secret files or large local test data.

- Initialize or open the repository in your project directory.
- Add a

- Push to a repository the VPS can access, using a deploy key or another narrowly scoped credential rather than a personal password.
Git is optional for a one-time static upload—you can transfer an archive with scp or rsync—but a repository gives you a repeatable rollback point and makes later updates less error-prone.
Prepare and secure the VPS
Choose a current Linux distribution supported by your application. Record the server’s public IPv4 address and, if you will publish one, its IPv6 address. Before uploading the site:

- Configure a firewall to permit SSH and the web ports you actually use (normally TCP 80 and 443).
- Disable password SSH login and direct root login only after confirming that key-based access works in a second session.
- Keep a recovery path through the VPS provider’s console or rescue system.
These are general administration practices, not Antigravity requirements. A VPS gives you control, but it also makes you responsible for updates, hardening, monitoring and recovery work that a managed platform may perform for you.
Deploy a static build with nginx
Install nginx and create a web-root directory
Install nginx using your distribution’s package manager, then create a directory dedicated to this site, for example /var/www/example-site. Assign ownership so your deployment user can update the files without making the web server run as root. Keep the source repository outside the public web root unless the application needs it.
Recommended Free Tools
Copy only the build output
From your workstation, transfer the contents of the real output folder, not the project’s entire working directory. For example, with a static dist/ result, an rsync command can copy it to the VPS:
rsync -avz --delete dist/ deploy@example-vps:/var/www/example-site/
Replace the user, host and paths with your values. The --delete option removes files on the server that no longer exist locally; use it only when the destination contains no unrelated content. If you prefer Git, clone the repository into a non-public directory, run the production build on the VPS, and copy the generated folder into the web root.
Create the nginx server block
Create a server configuration for the domain. This example serves a static single-page application:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
server {
listen 80;
listen [::]:80;
server_name example.com www.example.com;
root /var/www/example-site;
index index.html;
location / {
try_files $uri $uri/ /index.html;
}
}
The root must point to the directory that actually contains index.html. The fallback to /index.html is appropriate for many client-side routers. For a traditional multi-page site where missing paths should return a real 404, use try_files $uri $uri/ =404; instead. Do not use the SPA fallback to hide missing server routes in an API or server-rendered application.

Validate and reload nginx
- Enable the site according to your distribution’s nginx layout, often by placing a link from an available-sites directory into an enabled-sites directory.
- Run
sudo nginx -t. Fix every syntax or path error before proceeding. - Reload rather than restarting when possible:
sudo systemctl reload nginx. - Check the local response with
curl -I http://127.0.0.1and inspect nginx’s error log if you receive a 403, 404 or 5xx response.
A 403 commonly means nginx cannot traverse one of the parent directories or read the files. A 404 often means the root points one directory too high or too low. Confirm the exact location of index.html and the permissions on every parent directory.
Deploy a server-rendered Node application
If the project needs Node at request time, do not place its source or .next/ directory directly behind a static nginx root. On the VPS, install the Node version required by the project, clone the repository, install production dependencies, and run its documented production build.
Start the application on a private local port, such as 3000, using a process manager or a system service so it restarts after a crash and after a reboot. Configure nginx as a reverse proxy to that local port. Keep the application bound to localhost unless it must be reached directly; nginx should be the public entry point where you can centralize TLS, request limits and access logs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNo universal Antigravity-generated Node command is established, so use the scripts in your project’s package.json. Do not guess a start command, port, database migration order or required environment variable. Test the service locally on the VPS before adding the public DNS record.
Connect the domain and enable HTTPS
Point DNS at the VPS
At your DNS provider, create an A record for the domain pointing to the VPS’s IPv4 address. Add an AAAA record only if the server is correctly configured for IPv6. Decide whether www is an alias or a separate name and include every name in nginx’s server_name. DNS changes can take time to appear at different resolvers; verify with DNS lookup tools before treating an unresolved name as an nginx failure.
Obtain a certificate
Once HTTP works for the domain, use a supported ACME client such as Certbot to request a certificate and configure nginx. The client and distribution package determine the exact command. Ensure inbound port 80 is reachable during validation, then test an HTTPS request and confirm that every page, asset and API endpoint uses the intended HTTPS origin.
Best Value
Schedule renewal checks and verify that the renewal service can reload nginx. A certificate that works today but cannot renew is a future outage, so include renewal status in routine maintenance.
Running Antigravity on the VPS is a different workflow
CLI over SSH
One recent third-party account claims that an Antigravity command-line session on Linux can detect an SSH environment and print a URL that you open in a local browser to authorize. This is not an official, verified Google procedure, so confirm the current command and authentication behavior in the tool’s own documentation before relying on it. Do not expose an administrative development interface directly to the public internet. A jump host or VPN is safer than opening an extra management port, and SSH itself should still be key-protected and restricted.
IDE through Remote Desktop
A Windows VPS can run a graphical Antigravity IDE accessed through Remote Desktop. Disconnecting the RDP window may leave the session running, depending on the Windows configuration. That keeps a development process alive; it does not replace nginx, DNS, TLS or the application’s production process. Treat the desktop session as an administration convenience, not as the public hosting layer.
Managed hosting versus a self-managed VPS
A managed Git-based host can build and serve a repository with less server administration. A VPS is appropriate when you need direct control over the operating system, custom services, private networking or a database that the managed option cannot provide. Compare the operational consequences rather than only the monthly price, which varies by provider and has no single established amount.
| Decision factor | Self-managed VPS | Managed build-and-host service |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Full control of OS, nginx, runtime and network | Constrained to the platform’s supported runtimes and settings |
| Maintenance | You apply updates, harden SSH, monitor services and restore backups | The provider handles much of the host maintenance |
| Build output | You choose where and how artifacts are built and copied | The platform usually builds from Git and publishes its configured output |
| HTTPS and domains | You configure DNS, certificates and renewal | The platform may automate certificate provisioning |
| Best fit | Custom stacks, persistent services and teams comfortable with Linux operations | Sites where speed and reduced operations matter more than host-level control |
Troubleshoot by symptom
| Symptom | Likely cause | Checks and correction |
|---|---|---|
| The build fails on the VPS but worked locally | Different runtime version, undeclared dependency, missing environment variable or case-sensitive import | Use the lockfile, match the required runtime, inspect the first build error and rebuild from a clean checkout. |
The home page loads but refreshing /about returns 404 |
Missing SPA fallback | Add the appropriate try_files fallback, or use real per-page files for a multi-page site. |
| CSS or JavaScript returns 404 | Incorrect base path or copied the wrong directory level | Inspect the browser network panel, verify asset URLs and ensure the directory containing index.html is nginx’s root. |
| nginx returns 403 | File or directory permissions prevent traversal or reading | Check ownership and permissions on the web root and each parent directory; do not solve it by making the entire filesystem world-writable. |
| The domain shows the default nginx page | The intended server block is not enabled or the request’s hostname does not match | Run nginx -t, verify the enabled configuration and confirm the exact server_name. |
| HTTPS validation fails | DNS still points elsewhere, port 80 is blocked, or the hostname is absent from nginx | Check A/AAAA records, firewall rules and the HTTP server block before requesting the certificate again. |
| Node pages return 502 Bad Gateway | The application is stopped, listening on another port, or bound incorrectly | Check the process manager and application logs, curl the private port locally, and match nginx’s proxy target to the actual listen address. |
| Old files remain after deployment | The upload copied over the previous release without removing deleted assets | Use an atomic release directory or carefully use rsync --delete against a dedicated web root. |
A repeatable update and rollback routine
- Build and test the exact commit locally.
- Create a uniquely named release directory on the VPS.
- Copy or build the artifact there and verify ownership and permissions.
- Run a local HTTP check against the new release.
- Switch nginx’s root (or the application symlink) to the new release.
- Run
sudo nginx -tand reload nginx. - Check the public home page, a deep link, static assets, forms and any API calls.
- Keep the previous release until the new one has passed your smoke tests, then remove old releases according to your retention policy.
For server-rendered applications, deploy code and migrations in an order that is backward-compatible with the currently running version. Take database backups before destructive migrations, and keep logs outside the public web root.
