To choose news topics or block publishers and phrases, use the Yahoo News app’s Profile > Settings > Content preferences. On Yahoo’s mobile website, swipe left on a headline and tap Show Less to reduce stories from that publisher. My Yahoo and MyScout have separate layout and tile controls.
First, identify which Yahoo experience you want to change
“Yahoo homepage” can mean the general Yahoo homepage, its mobile website, the Yahoo News app, My Yahoo, or MyScout. Their controls do different things: the News app lets you tune topics and filter content; the mobile homepage offers a publisher control; My Yahoo changes page layout; and MyScout lets you customize tiles.

Yahoo describes its general homepage as featuring news, a “For you” area with recommendations based on recent activity, trending searches, weather, horoscopes, stocks, sports scores, and more. Signing in supports saved interests and recommended newsfeed stories based on those interests. See Yahoo’s homepage overview and sign-in feature guide.

Choose topics in the Yahoo News app
- Open the Yahoo News app and tap Profile.
- Open Settings, then Content preferences.
- Tap Manage interests, select or deselect topics, and continue to save.
Yahoo requires at least five topics to remain selected. Chosen topics personalize the feed, but important news from other topics may still appear, so this setting does not restrict the feed exclusively to your selections. Yahoo’s Yahoo News app getting-started guide covers topic selection.

Reorder or remove interest tabs
Selected interests can appear as tabs on the app’s Home screen. Use the three-dot control beside the interest tabs to manage them; drag a topic using its move control to reorder it, then save. Yahoo also documents adding or removing tabs in its app guide.
Block publishers or filter phrases in the app
Both controls are in Profile > Settings > Content preferences in the Yahoo News app.

Block a publisher
Choose Block publishers and select publishers whose articles you do not want in your feed.
Block words or phrases in article titles
Choose Block keywords & phrases, add a phrase, and save. Add phrases one at a time. Yahoo says these filters apply to “For you” and topic feeds, and you can remove filters later. These app controls are described in Yahoo’s content preferences guide.

Reduce a publisher’s stories on the mobile homepage
- Sign in to Yahoo in a mobile web browser.
- Swipe left on a headline from the publisher you want to see less often.
- Tap Show Less.
To undo the choice, open Profile > Manage Publishers and tap the X beside that publisher’s name. Yahoo documents these steps in its guide to removing or restoring publishers on the mobile homepage.
Check the News app’s activity-personalization setting
Yahoo says the latest version of its News app may show a prompt when Articles and Media Based on Your Activity is set to Don’t Allow. To allow this app personalization, open Yahoo’s Privacy Dashboard and enable Use my activity to make my content on Yahoo more relevant. Yahoo says people who do not want to change that setting can still use Yahoo News on desktop or mobile web. This guidance concerns the News app’s activity-based personalization; it is not a general requirement for every Yahoo homepage feature. See Yahoo’s personalization instructions.

Change My Yahoo’s layout, not its recommendations
If you mean My Yahoo, its documented customization is about page layout: add or delete tabs, choose a theme, move content modules, and set the number of columns and font size. These settings do not correspond to the News app’s topic, publisher, or phrase filters. See Yahoo’s My Yahoo layout guide.

MyScout is a customizable homepage within Yahoo Scout, not the general Yahoo homepage’s “For you” feed. Yahoo says it supports up to 20 custom query tiles, as well as account-based tiles connected with services such as Yahoo Mail, Finance, Sports, and Games.
