Button behavior by platform
- Nothing OS: A short press switches audio sources; a long press activates Smart Assistant.
- Other Android devices and iOS: Nothing says a short press does not switch audio sources, while a long press activates Smart Assistant.
Depending on what the app offers for your setup, optional assignments include voice assistant, noise control, spatial-audio cycling and EQ-mode cycling. Check the current Nothing X settings rather than assuming every option is available on every device.
Use the Roller and Paddle
These controls cover common listening actions without requiring a custom assignment. Nothing’s Headphone (1) product page describes the Roller and Paddle; its support guide provides the detailed gestures.

Change the EQ or create a custom profile
In Nothing X, open the Equaliser section. You can select a ready-made profile or choose a custom mode and adjust the sound yourself. Nothing Support lists four default profiles: Balanced, More Bass, More Treble and Voice. It also says Headphone (1) supports Custom and Advanced modes. Nothing’s sound-profile guide describes those options, and its custom EQ answer confirms that custom EQ is supported.

| EQ path | What it offers | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Balanced | Default named profile | You want to start with a ready-made option. |
| More Bass | Default named profile emphasizing bass | You prefer a bass-forward preset. |
| More Treble | Default named profile emphasizing treble | You prefer a treble-forward preset. |
| Voice | Default named profile | You want to try the speech-oriented preset. |
| Custom or Advanced | Modes for adjusting sound yourself | You want to tailor the profile to your preference. |
Nothing does not identify one profile as objectively best for everyone. Try a preset with the music or other content you actually listen to, then adjust a custom profile if the ready-made options do not suit you.
Adjust Bass Enhance separately
Bass Enhance is a separate Nothing X setting, not simply another EQ profile. Nothing Support says it is off by default. From the app’s home page, switch it on or off; tap the icon at the bottom right of its setting card to adjust intensity. See Nothing’s Bass Enhance instructions for the documented controls.

If the sound does not seem right
- Check fit and seal. Nothing advises confirming that the headphones fit properly, because a poor seal can affect how the sound comes across.
- Try a preset. In Nothing X’s Equaliser section, compare a default profile with your current sound.
- Adjust a custom profile. If none of the presets suit you, use Custom or Advanced mode to make your own changes.
Nothing’s troubleshooting guidance covers fit and EQ adjustment in its sound troubleshooting article. These settings let you personalize playback; the available documentation does not establish measured improvements or a universally superior profile.
