In GTA Online free mode, put on the clothes and accessories you want, save the look using Edit Saved Outfits at a clothing-store counter or wardrobe, then switch to it from Interaction Menu > Style > Outfit. The Interaction Menu is the quickest way to change into a saved look; a wardrobe or store counter is the alternative for saving and managing outfits.
Customize your character’s outfit
Equip the clothing and accessories you want at a clothing store or wardrobe. Rockstar also says apparel can be changed from the Interaction Menu’s Style section. The available labels and prompts may vary by platform, language, or game version, so follow the wording shown in your game.

Changing ordinary clothing is different from changing your character’s appearance or gender. Rockstar’s support instructions about an appearance-change fee refer to that separate process, not to every clothing purchase or outfit change. Rockstar’s appearance and apparel support guidance is scoped to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Save a custom outfit
- Wear the complete look you want to keep.
- At a clothing-store counter or wardrobe, choose Edit Saved Outfits. The game displays the relevant button or control prompt.
- Select an available slot, name the outfit, and confirm.
Rockstar’s historical feature notes describe saved outfits as accessible from clothing-store outfit counters, apartment wardrobes, and the Interaction Menu. Switch outfits quickly in free mode
- Open the Interaction Menu.
- Choose Style, then the Outfit option.
- Select the saved outfit you want to wear.
Rockstar identifies the Interaction Menu as a way to change outfits in free mode. Its listed default controls are comma (,) on PC, hold the touchpad on PlayStation, and hold View on Xbox. Use a wardrobe or store counter instead
If you are already near one, a wardrobe or clothing-store outfit counter lets you access saved looks without opening the menu. These are also the places to use Edit Saved Outfits when creating or managing a saved look. Rockstar’s feature notes list store counters and apartment wardrobes as access points, alongside the Interaction Menu.

How many outfit slots are available?
The exact current cap is not confirmed in the cited Rockstar material. A GTABase guide updated January 24, 2026 reports 20 custom outfit slots; Rockstar’s older launch notes documented up to 10 at the time. The standard save workflow depends on the game offering an Edit Saved Outfits prompt and accepting the items in the combination. The available official guidance does not establish that every mission-issued, event, role, or special character outfit can be saved. If the game rejects a combination or does not offer a save prompt, treat that as an in-game restriction rather than relying on a glitch.
