To create a video from text, first decide whether you need a presenter or narration to deliver a script, or a generated visual clip shaped by a prompt. Then choose a tool that supports that output, prepare the text, generate a draft, review and edit it, and export in the format you need. These workflows are not interchangeable: one prioritizes spoken delivery and script fidelity; the other turns a visual description into footage.
What does “video from text” mean?
The phrase covers two different jobs. A script-to-video tool builds a presenter-led or narrated video around written material. A prompt-to-video tool generates a visual clip from a description of what should appear and how it should look or move. Some platforms offer more than one starting point, but the output you want should determine your workflow.

- Choose prompt-to-video when you need a visual scene or short clip that does not depend on a presenter reading a script.

How do I turn a script into a video?
For a presenter-led or narrated video, start by deciding how closely the result must follow your words. Synthesia distinguishes importing an existing script for word-for-word use from providing a file as source material: in the latter workflow, it writes a new script and does not preserve the source wording or structure. Its documentation also describes prompt-based generation, PowerPoint conversion, templates, and a blank canvas as other ways to begin. HeyGen describes a workflow that begins with a prompt, brief, or script, then moves through presenter and voice selection, visual customization, generation, and export. Its documented customization options include captions, B-roll, branding, music, and animation; it also describes presenter and faceless formats. These are vendor-described capabilities and use cases, not guarantees about the finished video. HeyGen’s text-to-video page outlines its process.
- Prepare the text. Use a finished script if the wording must remain exact. If you provide a brief or source file for a system to turn into a new script, check the result against the source before producing the video.
- Choose a delivery style. Select a presenter or a faceless/narrated treatment if the tool offers those choices, then choose a voice and the visual elements that support the subject.
- Generate a draft. Treat the first output as an editable starting point, not a final cut.
- Review and export. Check spoken wording, pronunciation, captions, timing, and whether visuals match the narration. Revise what is available in the editor, then confirm the export options suit the destination.
Can I make a video from a prompt?
Yes. Prompt-led video generation is designed to create a visual clip from a text description. Adobe Firefly’s documented workflow is to open Generate video, select a model, enter a prompt, and choose the settings available for that model. The help page lists controls that can include resolution, aspect ratio, reference composition, camera movement and framing, style, and seed; available settings vary by model. Adobe’s prompt-generation help page was last updated June 9, 2026.

After generation, Adobe’s product page describes options to refine, trim, reorder, or swap models for segments; extend or regenerate segments; add audio; and export. Describe the subject, setting, mood, and visual style, then say what should move and how the camera should behave. For example, rather than asking for “a cinematic city,” specify a rain-darkened street at dusk, reflections from shop lights, pedestrians crossing, and a slow camera push toward a tram. Treat this as direction, not a guarantee: the result may need several revisions, and controls differ by model.

If the tool offers a style preset, use it when it better expresses the look you want. Adobe documents both prompt descriptions and style controls; HeyGen’s guidance for text-based video also calls attention to tone, pacing, and suitable media. How do I choose the right tool?
There is no single best option for every text-to-video job. Compare tools by the work they do, how they handle your source text, and what you can control before and after generation.

Can I turn a PowerPoint into a video?
Synthesia documents PowerPoint conversion as one of its ways to begin a video. That can be a useful starting point when you have slides, but it is distinct from importing an existing script or asking the system to write a new one from a file. - Text: Compare narration with the approved script or source, especially if the tool generated or rewrote the wording.
- Visuals: Check that each shot supports the message and does not introduce misleading or irrelevant details.
- Sound and captions: Review voice pronunciation, timing, and caption accuracy; do not assume generated captions are error-free.
- Delivery requirements: Confirm aspect ratio, resolution, and export format for the platform or presentation where the video will appear.
- Rights: Check the current plan and model terms for commercial use before publishing or distributing the result.
Is Sora available for making videos from text?
No. OpenAI’s Sora page states that the product is no longer available as of April 26, 2026. Older articles describing it as a usable service may be out of date. OpenAI’s Sora page carries the availability statement.
