To run separate YouTube radio feeds for different genres, create a distinct broadcast and stream configuration for each feed that needs independent, simultaneous programming. Give every broadcast its own genre identity, confirm that the channel and stream keys are within YouTube’s active-stream limits, and use only music cleared for continuous YouTube livestreaming. You can reuse a stream configuration for broadcasts that share settings, but that is not a way around concurrency limits.
Plan the feeds and check YouTube’s limits
Think of each genre feed as its own scheduled broadcast, such as a jazz radio event and a separate devotional music event. YouTube treats the broadcast (the event viewers see) and the transmitted stream (the encoder connection carrying video and audio) as separate resources. The right setup depends on whether feeds run at different times or need to run independently at the same time.

- YouTube Help documents a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply; creating additional configurations does not remove them. Check the current limits in Live Control Room before planning concurrent feeds.
- Make a list of the genres that must be live simultaneously. If two feeds only run at different times and share the same encoder settings, a reused stream configuration may suit them. Independent simultaneous feeds should be planned with separate stream configurations, subject to the limits above.
- Decide on a distinct title, description, thumbnail, and schedule for each genre so viewers can tell which feed they are joining.
Make sure the channel can go live
Before scheduling, verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s music-channel guidance says first-time live streaming should be enabled at least 24 hours before the planned stream, so do not leave channel activation until launch day.

Create a broadcast for each genre
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast for each genre feed.
- Use a recognizable genre-specific title and description. State the music style and, where useful, the expected schedule or programming format. Assign a distinct thumbnail so viewers can distinguish feeds in search results and on the channel.
- For each broadcast, select or create the stream configuration that matches the programming plan. Configure the encoder to use the matching stream settings for that broadcast.
- Run the feed through YouTube’s preview and control workflow before promoting it. Confirm that the correct broadcast is paired with the intended feed and that the audio and presentation are acceptable.
- Repeat the check for each genre. Keep schedules consistent once the feeds are public, and make changes to a feed’s title or schedule clear to its audience.
Choose whether to reuse or separate stream configurations
Google for Developers documents two approaches: reuse one liveStream resource across scheduled or recurring broadcasts that share stream settings, or create a distinct liveStream for each broadcast. These are configuration choices, not ways to multiply YouTube’s allowed concurrent streams.

Clear the music rights before going live
A track being available to listen to or included in a consumer music subscription does not establish permission to rebroadcast it continuously on YouTube. Use music only when the channel has the necessary rights for this exact use, including livestreaming. Check the license scope with the label, distributor, or other rights owner before building a feed around a catalog.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. YouTube Help warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the third-party content.” Ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to a Content ID allowlist, and coordinate before launch. YouTube for Artists likewise advises coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music during a live stream to avoid issues such as copyright strikes.

Test and maintain each radio feed
- Check in preview that the right genre broadcast is connected to the right stream configuration.
- Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt transitions, or an incorrect playlist before announcing the feed.
- Confirm the broadcast is scheduled or live at the expected time and that its title, description, and thumbnail match the genre.
- Monitor Live Control Room during launch for warnings or interruptions, and resolve rights or configuration problems before restarting promotion.
- Keep a repeatable schedule and update viewers if a feed’s programming changes.
