The outputs come from the same musical definition, but they serve different purposes: MIDI stores musical events for editing and sequencing, while WAV stores rendered audio for playback or delivery.
Generate both files from one C# definition
This example embeds a short cue in C# and writes both outputs to the application’s working directory:

Add using System.IO; if your project does not already provide access to File through implicit usings.

The note sequence C4 e E4 e G4 q places two eighth notes followed by a quarter note.

Use a source file for a larger cue
For a composition that is awkward to keep inside a C# string, put the SoundScript definition in a .ss file and compile it with SoundScriptEngine.CompileFile(...). The resulting compiled object can then be rendered to WAV in the same way:

File.WriteAllBytes("success.wav", cue.RenderWave());The file-based approach keeps musical notation separate from application code. The same tutorial demonstrates compiling a .ss source file and rendering its compilation to WAV.

Choose MIDI or WAV for the next step

These are not interchangeable versions of the same file. MIDI leaves musical events available to downstream sequencing or editing tools; WAV is an audio rendering that can be played or processed as sound. Rendering both lets an application keep an editable musical representation alongside an audio asset.
Install the package with the version in mind
The tutorial’s install snippet pins SoundScript version 13.0.0 and says that release targets .NET 10. The official SoundScript site reported version 16.0.1 when accessed October 7, 2026. Those are different release references, so treat the tutorial as an API example rather than evidence that its exact package pin remains the recommended install.

Before adding the dependency, check the current package listing and the official project documentation for the version and target framework that fit your project. The documented code pattern is the important part here; package version availability and compatibility can change.

SoundScript also documents a separate Wave-oriented path. Its release notes describe SoundScript.Wave rendering .ss or .ssw files directly to WAV and introduce the soundscript wave CLI verb. The notes also state that Wave-only directives are rejected by the MIDI run path. See the SoundScript release notes for those pipeline distinctions; do not assume a script using Wave-specific directives can be sent through every MIDI route.

There is a similar boundary for vocal features. The official vocal documentation describes lyric events being placed in MIDI; that MIDI output is not rendered speech audio.
