Use Laravel Snappy’s PDF::loadFile($url) to ask wkhtmltopdf to render a webpage, then return it inline or as a download. Laravel Snappy is a wrapper, not the PDF renderer: install the wkhtmltopdf executable separately, configure its path for the server, and treat every URL supplied by a caller as a potentially unsafe server-side network request.
Install Laravel Snappy and wkhtmltopdf

Install the Laravel package with Composer:

Install wkhtmltopdf in the deployment environment, or use a Composer binary dependency. Confirm the executable runs from the command line on the same host or container that serves Laravel.

Use the documented

The package delegates conversion to KnpLabs Snappy, which invokes wkhtmltopdf; a working Laravel installation without a reachable, executable binary is not enough. See the KnpLabs Snappy README for the lower-level wrapper behavior.
Load a URL and return the PDF
For a browser response that displays the result inline:

Set paper size, orientation and renderer options
Set layout and conversion options through the wrapper. This example saves an A4 landscape PDF with no bottom margin:

return $pdf->download('report.pdf');For URL captures, the same renderer options can be applied after loadFile($url). wkhtmltopdf documents A4, portrait and 10 mm left and right margins among its defaults; defaults and supported options can depend on the deployed binary, so check its usage manual rather than assuming a setting is identical across installations.

What happens when wkhtmltopdf loads a webpage
The conversion runs on the application server, not in the visitor’s browser. That server must be able to reach the target URL and any assets the page needs. Authentication, redirects, bot checks, JavaScript-heavy interfaces and network restrictions can change what ends up in the PDF; the package and renderer documentation do not establish that arbitrary sites will render consistently.
If a page needs cookies, headers or a proxy, Snappy and wkhtmltopdf document related configuration options. Configure only what the actual target requires, and test with the same binary, network access and runtime identity used in production.
Protect URL-to-PDF endpoints
A route that accepts a URL and asks a server-side process to fetch it can become a way to reach internal services or sensitive addresses. Prefer a fixed destination or a strict allowlist of permitted hosts; validate the scheme and destination before passing the URL to Snappy. The reviewed package documentation does not provide a complete Laravel-specific allowlist implementation.

Do not enable wkhtmltopdf local-file access just to work around a missing web asset. The renderer manual says local-file access is disabled by default for local-file conversions unless paths are explicitly allowed.

Avoid rendering untrusted HTML or JavaScript. The KnpLabs Snappy README warns that
--enable-local-file-accesscan be risky with untrusted HTML or JavaScript and recommends sanitizing inputs and using a sandbox such as AppArmor or SELinux.
The wkhtmltopdf status page says Qt 4 has been unsupported since 2015 and the bundled WebKit has not been updated since 2012. Its maintainer warns against using wkhtmltopdf with untrusted HTML and names WeasyPrint or commercial Prince for controlled report generation, and Puppeteer for sites that rely on dynamic JavaScript. These are the project’s recommendations, not a comparative test; check current support and deployment requirements before choosing a replacement.
Troubleshoot common failures
