Google does not provide a direct Takeout export to an arbitrary VPS. For just a few videos, YouTube Studio offers individual downloads, but its downloads may be limited to 720p or 360p.
Choose the right export route

A YouTube download should not be treated as a guaranteed copy of the original camera or editing master. If you need the source-quality master, retain it separately wherever you keep your production files.

Confirm you are exporting the right channel
- Sign in to the Google Account associated with the YouTube channel.
- If the channel is associated with a Brand Account, switch to the Brand Account that owns the uploads and check that you are viewing the expected channel.
- If this is a Google Workspace account and export options are unavailable, ask the organization’s administrator whether Takeout export is restricted.
- Make a practical inventory of the videos you expect to find. Google does not promise a complete channel reconciliation report as part of Takeout, so compare the resulting files with your own channel records.
Missing uploads can be an account-selection issue rather than a transfer failure. Resolve the identity and access question before building the VPS copy.
Export your uploads with Google Takeout
- Open Google Takeout while signed in to the account you confirmed above.
- Select YouTube data for export and proceed through the export options. Choose an archive size appropriate to your connection and storage. Google Account Help lists a 50 GB archive-size option that may reduce the number of split files.
- Create the export and wait for Google’s notification that it is ready. Download the archive parts promptly: Google says the download link expires in about seven days and each archive can be downloaded up to five times.
- Save every part to a computer or storage device with enough free space, then extract the archive. Keep the parts together until extraction and inspection are complete.
- List the extracted files and compare them against your expected channel inventory. Check several representative videos by opening or probing them before you begin the server transfer.
Do not assume that one downloaded archive file is the entire export. If Takeout split the export, all parts are needed. Preserve the archive until the extracted file set has been checked.

Plan capacity and transfer from India
Check storage and network limits first
Measure the total size of the extracted library, then compare it with the VPS’s available persistent disk. Also check the provider’s current transfer quota, server region, storage expansion options, backup or snapshot terms, and total cost. The right India VPS depends on your archive size and the specific provider’s current plan; no single plan can be recommended without those details. If the library does not fit, expand or mount storage before copying.
India does not have a special YouTube export procedure in the official guidance described here. Its practical relevance is choosing a VPS region and checking present availability, latency, disk and network terms. Confirm those details with the host at purchase time rather than assuming every VPS marketed in India has the same limits.

Copy using a supported secure method
When your VPS offers SSH access and rsync, an authenticated rsync-over-SSH transfer is a suitable way to copy files from your staging computer. For example, a typical command has this form:

Replace the local path, account, server address and destination with values supplied for your VPS. Set up and test SSH authentication using the provider’s instructions first; do not put passwords in the command or expose private keys. If rsync is unavailable, use the provider’s supported secure file-transfer tool instead. Google documents rsync for copying files to Linux VMs, but not as a direct Takeout-to-generic-VPS feature (Google Cloud file-transfer guidance).
- Start with a small test copy and confirm that the remote account can write to the destination.
- Transfer the extracted library, keeping the local source and archive intact while the copy runs.
- On the VPS, compare file counts and sizes with the local copy, then open or check representative files.
- Retain the archive or original masters in a separate safe location until the VPS copy is verified. A single VPS is not an independent second backup.
Respect YouTube’s download and copyright rules
Use Takeout or Studio for videos you uploaded and are entitled to export. YouTube’s help says, “You can’t download other users’ YouTube videos” (YouTube Help). The YouTube Terms of Service restrict downloading or otherwise using content except where the service expressly authorizes it or the necessary permissions have been obtained (YouTube Terms of Service).

Do not substitute an API downloader or scraping tool for the official export route. YouTube’s API developer policies bar API clients from downloading, backing up, caching or storing audiovisual content without prior written approval (YouTube API Services Developer Policies). If a video contains third-party material, your ability to access or export it does not itself establish permission to reuse it.

Troubleshoot missing files or failed transfers
- Takeout does not show the expected channel: check the signed-in Google Account, switch to the relevant Brand Account and confirm the uploads are there.
- Export is blocked in an organization account: ask the Workspace administrator whether Takeout is disabled or limited.
- The archive contains several parts: download every part before expiry, keep them together, and extract the full set rather than treating one part as complete.
- An archive download link no longer works: the link may have expired; create a fresh export and download it promptly.
- The extraction or transfer runs out of space: check local staging capacity and VPS persistent disk separately. Add storage or choose a location with enough space before retrying.
- rsync cannot connect or write files: verify the server address, SSH credentials, network access, destination path and permissions. Test with a small file, then retry the full transfer using the VPS provider’s supported method.
- The VPS copy appears incomplete: compare file counts and sizes with the extracted source, re-transfer missing files and check representative videos before removing any other copy.
