YouTube’s playlist Loop control repeats playback for viewers; it does not turn a playlist into a live broadcast. To stream prerecorded videos as a continuous YouTube Live program, an encoder must send the video feed to YouTube using the event’s stream URL and key. You can build that feed with compatible encoder software or hardware, or use StreamNeo to loop uploaded videos from the cloud.
What “looping a YouTube playlist” means
There are two different features that sound similar. YouTube’s Loop control repeats a playlist during ordinary viewer playback. A live stream, by contrast, is an incoming feed sent by an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. The playlist Loop control does not create that feed.

For a live broadcast made from prerecorded videos, the encoder must play the media continuously and send its output to YouTube. YouTube’s guidance explains how to connect an encoder, but does not provide verified, version-specific instructions for making an OBS playlist of media files repeat indefinitely. Confirm the looping behavior in the encoder you choose and test it before relying on it.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and rights
Enable live streaming in advance
- Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the planned broadcast.
- YouTube’s live-streaming overview says creators must be at least 16, with separate conditions for younger participants.
See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and encoder setup instructions for current eligibility details.

Make sure you have rights to every item in the program
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use content on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights. A video’s presence in a YouTube playlist does not establish permission to rebroadcast it in a live stream. Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable law. Review YouTube’s terms and live-streaming guidance before broadcasting.
How to set up a continuous prerecorded-video live stream
- Prepare the program. Gather media you are entitled to stream, decide the order and expected duration, and check that the files play correctly with their audio. Choose an encoder that can play your sources continuously. YouTube supports software and standalone hardware encoders; the appropriate choice depends on your inputs and production needs.
- Create or schedule the YouTube Live event. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live. In Live Control Room, create an event or select the stream you are setting up. Choose the visibility—public, private, or unlisted—and schedule it if needed.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s server and key fields. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not show it in a recording, screenshot, or public chat.
- Configure and test continuous playback in the encoder. Set up the media source or playlist so the intended program continues when an item ends. Exact controls differ by encoder and version; YouTube’s documentation does not verify specific OBS playlist-source menu steps. Confirm that the encoder repeats the material as intended, that audio does not cut out, and that transitions work. Test before the event rather than assuming a playlist will loop.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start sending the feed and wait for it to appear in Live Control Room. Check picture and sound. For a scheduled event, YouTube instructs creators to select Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears.
- Verify the public viewing experience. Open the watch page and check that the stream is available and that the picture and audio are correct. YouTube recommends checking the channel or watch page and a mobile device, as well as monitoring the stream during the event.
- End the event deliberately. Stop and end the broadcast using the current controls in your encoder and Live Control Room. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a stream longer than 12 hours will be archived automatically.
Bandwidth, timing, and encoder protocol
Leave upload bandwidth headroom
YouTube recommends allowing 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Your connection must carry the outgoing stream, and where applicable, the primary and backup streams. This is a recommendation, not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Built-in OSD generator adds scrolling text, logos, or timestamps directly to the video stream — ideal for branding, event info, or security labeling. Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.
Set up early and monitor the broadcast
YouTube’s encoder tips recommend setting up at least two hours before an event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use the lead time to confirm the preview, test failover if you use it, monitor audio and video, and check local archive growth. These are operational recommendations, not a promise of uninterrupted streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

HLS “playlist” is a different term
If you choose HLS ingestion, the word “playlist” can also refer to the rolling manifest an encoder sends as part of the HLS protocol. That is not a viewer playlist of videos. YouTube’s HLS requirements include TS segments of 1–4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, among other constraints. Most people looping prerecorded videos do not need to choose HLS; consult YouTube’s HLS setup guidance if your encoder uses that protocol. YouTube also documents RTMPS encryption for supported encoder workflows.

Common problems and what to check
- The playlist repeats for a viewer, but no Live event starts: the viewer-side Loop control is not an encoder feed. Set up a Live event and send the encoder output using the stream URL and key.
- Live Control Room shows no incoming preview: check that the encoder is running, the server URL and stream key were copied correctly, and the channel is eligible for live streaming. Keep the key private and replace it if you believe it was exposed.
- The video stops when one file ends: the encoder may not be configured to repeat the playlist or continue to the next item. Test the exact media-source behavior in your installed encoder version before going live.
- The preview appears but the scheduled broadcast is not live: for a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and then select Go live in Live Control Room.
- Playback stutters or disconnects: check upload capacity and allow the recommended 20% headroom; if sending primary and backup streams, include both in the bandwidth requirement. Monitor the stream rather than treating bandwidth headroom as a stability guarantee.
- The archive is missing after a long broadcast: YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior applies to encoder streams under 12 hours. Longer streams are not covered by that stated limit.
- Content triggers a rights issue: verify that you have permission to use every video and music track in a live rebroadcast. Being able to play an item from a YouTube playlist does not grant rebroadcast rights.
