Think of the hook as a route-changing tool. It can alter how you approach a building or disengage from danger, but it does not remove the need to check the landing area, watch your exposure and confirm that the target surface is valid.
Current unlock path
The repeat-crafting path has two distinct parts: learning the Blueprint and meeting the progression requirement that makes the mobility item available. The ARC Raiders Wiki lists the Blueprint as obtainable through a Research Station 1 route costing 2,000 research points and 10 Rope. The same entry also lists scavenging as a source of the Blueprint, so a player may encounter it without producing it through the station route.
PC Gamer’s October 8, 2026 coverage of the current skill rework reports that Nomadic Crafting unlocks mobility items including the Grappling Hook and Zipline. If the item does not appear even after you have the listed components, inspect that skill or the equivalent mobility-crafting node in your current progression tree before assuming the station is bugged.

Progression and recipe data are update-sensitive. An October 17, 2026 guide reports the same Uncommon Grappling Hook recipe, while warning that live in-game item information should take precedence if a later patch changes a quantity, station level, vendor stock or unlock path.
What you need before crafting
- Access to the Grappling Hook Blueprint, either by creating it through Research Station 1 or by finding it while scavenging.
- At least 2,000 research points and 10 Rope if you are using the listed Research Station 1 creation route.
- Nomadic Crafting unlocked, unless a later update replaces it with a differently named progression requirement.
- A Utility Station 1 at which the gadget itself can be produced.
- 2 Rope, 1 Cable Stripper and 1 Mechanical Component for each listed Grappling Hook craft.
Blueprint cost versus gadget cost
Do not confuse the one-time Blueprint route with the materials consumed for each gadget. The Blueprint route unlocks the ability to craft repeatedly; the Utility Station recipe produces an individual Grappling Hook.

Step-by-step: unlock and craft a Grappling Hook
- Open your progression and crafting interfaces. Locate the mobility-crafting branch and check for Nomadic Crafting, or the current equivalent node if the skill tree has been renamed in your build.
- Confirm the Blueprint status. If the Grappling Hook Blueprint is not learned, open Research Station 1 and check whether the listed 2,000 research points and 10 Rope route is available. If you already found the Blueprint while scavenging, the station step is unnecessary.
- Learn the Blueprint. Complete the Research Station 1 action and verify that the Blueprint appears in your learned recipes. A Blueprint encounter from scavenging should likewise be confirmed in the recipe list before you leave the station interface.
- Gather the per-item materials. Bring 2 Rope, 1 Cable Stripper and 1 Mechanical Component. These are the listed inputs for one Grappling Hook, not the cost of the Blueprint route.
- Use Utility Station 1. Open the station’s utility-crafting list and select the Grappling Hook. Check the item panel immediately before confirming the craft; this catches quantity or station changes introduced by an update.
- Craft the item. Confirm the order and make sure the resulting item is the Uncommon Grappling Hook rather than the Blueprint entry. If the craft button is unavailable, compare the missing requirement with the checklist in the troubleshooting section below.
- Equip it in a Quick Use slot. Put the finished gadget in an available Quick Use slot before deploying. The exact slot-selection and activation buttons depend on your platform and current control layout.

Using the Grappling Hook during a raid

Gain vertical access
Look for a roof edge, upper ledge or other surface that gives you a route above the normal ground path. Before exposing yourself, identify where you will land and what cover is available there. A successful attachment that leaves you standing in an open sightline can be worse than taking the longer route.
Cross a gap
Use the hook when a broken walkway, ledge or separated structure blocks ordinary movement. Aim at a surface that appears continuous and reachable, then check the far side for hazards. Because no authoritative range or attachment-distance figure is published, judge the gap from the live reticle or prompt rather than assuming a fixed maximum.
Route around an obstacle
A hook can turn a blocked doorway, barricade or steep approach into an alternate line. This is especially useful when the direct route would force you through a predictable choke point. Keep a conventional fallback route in mind in case the target surface is not accepted.

Create an escape option
Carry the gadget with an exit plan already in mind. From cover, identify a roof, ledge or other valid surface that can break line of sight. Testing the attachment point before enemies are watching reduces the chance that you discover an invalid surface while exposed.
Use cover before committing
The most important practical habit is to test from protection. Peek only enough to acquire the target, use the live prompt to confirm that the surface can be selected, and avoid lingering in the open while waiting for the action to complete. This guidance follows the gadget’s traversal role; it is not a claim about a documented activation delay.
What is and is not established about its performance
Available item documentation explains the hook’s function but does not publish a complete technical specification. Do not treat an unverified number from a video, old post or another player as a guaranteed property of the current build.

There is no named statistical study or official numeric performance figure in the available material. The documented evidence is a recipe, progression information and an item description, so a ranking against another mobility gadget would be speculative unless the game itself supplies comparable values.

The Grappling Hook is missing from the station
First check whether the Blueprint is learned. The Utility Station craft is not the Blueprint unlock; it appears only after the recipe has been acquired. Next check Nomadic Crafting or the current mobility equivalent in the progression tree. Finally, reopen the live station item panel and confirm that you are using Utility Station 1 rather than a different station category.
The Blueprint route is locked
Verify that you are at Research Station 1 and have the listed 2,000 research points and 10 Rope. If the Blueprint was found through scavenging, look in the learned-recipe list instead of trying to pay the station cost again. A locked node may also indicate that the current progression tree requires Nomadic Crafting first.
The craft button shows missing materials
Compare your inventory with the per-item recipe: 2 Rope, 1 Cable Stripper and 1 Mechanical Component. The Blueprint’s 10 Rope requirement is separate and should not be counted as a substitute for the two Rope consumed by each craft.
The station level appears different
Updates can change station requirements. The listed recipe uses Utility Station 1, but the live item panel is authoritative if your version displays another level. Do not spend materials based solely on an older guide when the in-game panel gives a different requirement.
The hook will not attach
Move behind cover, retarget a clearly exposed surface and follow the current prompt. The description says “most surfaces,” which leaves room for invalid geometry. Check whether the reticle or prompt changes before committing to the movement. Since no complete surface-compatibility list is documented, treat each environment as something to verify rather than memorize from an unrelated map.
The controls do not match a guide
Use the control prompt shown after equipping the Quick Use item. Platform layouts and later patches can change the activation command, and the available documentation does not establish one universal button.
Keeping the recipe current after updates
ARC Raiders is an updated live game, so the hook’s station, quantities, Blueprint source and progression node can change. Before a resource-heavy crafting run, open the current Blueprint and item panels and compare the displayed values with any guide you are following. The October 17, 2026 recipe report matches the listed 2 Rope, 1 Cable Stripper and 1 Mechanical Component cost, but it explicitly gives priority to later in-game changes.
Record the date when you verify a recipe for a squad or a personal checklist. A dated note prevents an old station level or material count from being mistaken for a permanent rule.
