Then compare the converted time with your synchronized device clock and Epic’s latest schedule. This method handles daylight-saving changes and prevents the common mistake of converting only the hour.
The reliable five-step conversion
A Fortnite announcement can use Eastern Time, GMT, a city name or another reference zone. The timezone is part of the timestamp, not optional context. Follow these steps whenever Epic publishes a season start, downtime window or access time.

1. Copy the complete announcement timestamp
Write down the calendar date, exact clock time and timezone abbreviation or city/region exactly as shown. For example, January 31 at 2 AM ET contains three separate pieces of information: January 31, 2:00 AM and Eastern Time. Do not copy “2 AM” alone, and do not silently replace ET with your own local abbreviation.

2. Use a date-aware timezone converter or calendar
Enter the date and time together with the source zone. A converter that understands named locations uses the timezone rules in force on that date, including daylight-saving changes and historical rule updates. A calendar event with a named timezone provides the same protection when you are planning a reminder.
A numeric offset such as UTC−5 is not always equivalent to a regional label. The offset can change during the year, while a location-based timezone knows when the change occurs.
3. Select your city or IANA timezone
Choose a location such as America/Los_Angeles or Europe/London, or select your actual city from the converter’s location list. Do not choose a fixed offset merely because it matches your clock today. Two places can share an offset temporarily and diverge after one observes a seasonal clock change.
If you travel, select the place where you will be when the season launches rather than the location saved in your account profile. For a team spread across regions, make a separate conversion for every player.
4. Check the local calendar date
Read the converted date as well as the hour. A late-night launch in the source zone can occur on the previous calendar day for you; an early-morning launch can become the following day in another region. Write the result in full, for example, “Thursday, January 30 at 11:00 PM Pacific,” rather than “11 PM,” so a reminder or stream schedule cannot be assigned to the wrong day.

5. Compare with the device clock and current Epic schedule
Before launch, check that the PC, console, phone or tablet clock is synchronized and set to the correct region. Epic says the competitive schedule is displayed in the device’s local time in-game and on its website, so an incorrect device clock can make an in-game time appear wrong. Recheck the current Battle Pass page, the in-game Battle Pass tab and Epic’s official announcements near launch because schedules can change.
Which Fortnite time reference applies?
There is no single reference zone for every Fortnite feature. Use the zone printed in the particular announcement instead of assuming that every event is GMT or your device’s local time.

Epic Games support states: “The Fortnite competitive schedule is displayed in your device’s local time both in-game and on our website.” If you are reading a competition schedule, the displayed times should already be localized to the device or browser context. You still need an accurate device timezone and clock. If a social post or tournament announcement gives a separate reference zone, convert that explicit timestamp and use the localized schedule as a cross-check.
Item Shop refreshes
Epic’s Item Shop support guidance says the in-game Item Shop and Webshop refresh at around 0:00 AM GMT. “Around” matters: this is an approximate refresh point, not a promise that every item becomes available at an identical second. Convert midnight GMT to your location, but allow for the stated approximation and verify the shop itself.
Season launch announcements
Season posts may identify maintenance, downtime, update availability or playable access. The source zone can vary by post. Treat the date, clock time and zone in that post as authoritative for the conversion, then keep the milestones separate in your notes. A converted downtime start is not automatically the time at which the new Battle Pass can be played.

Daylight saving time can change the answer
Daylight saving time changes a location’s offset on particular dates. A region that is five hours behind UTC in winter may be four hours behind in summer. The same Fortnite timestamp can therefore convert to a different local clock time depending on the season.
Epic’s device guidance says a PC or console clock should be accurate and synchronized so it adjusts for daylight saving. Enable automatic date, time and timezone settings where your operating system offers them. If you set the clock manually, a converter may show one answer while the console shows another because the console is applying a different seasonal rule.
Why fixed-offset tables fail
A hand-written table such as “ET is UTC−5” works only when Eastern Time is on standard time. During daylight time, the offset is UTC−4. Similar changes occur in many regions, while some locations do not observe seasonal changes at all. A date-aware location converter applies the rule for the event’s actual date; a static table does not.
When the region’s rules are unusual
Timezone rules can be revised by governments, and regions can change whether they observe daylight saving. If your location has a recent or unusual rule change, use a converter or calendar with an up-to-date timezone database and confirm the result against the device clock. Avoid converting with a remembered offset from a previous season.
Midnight rollover: the date may move
The most common practical error is keeping the announcement’s date while changing only its hour. Time conversion can move the event to the previous or next local day. This affects alarms, party planning, tournament check-ins and streaming schedules.

Worked calculation using Epic’s dated example
Epic’s Fortnite OG news post recorded Season 1 ending on January 31 at 2 AM ET. In January, Eastern Time uses standard-time rules (UTC−5), while Los Angeles uses Pacific standard time (UTC−8). The three-hour difference makes that timestamp January 30 at 11:00 PM in Los Angeles. London, on GMT in January, would see January 31 at 7:00 AM. Sydney, using its January daylight-time offset of UTC+11, would see January 31 at 6:00 PM.
These are conversions of the published timestamp, not a claim that every region received identical downtime or playable access. If Epic lists another milestone, convert that milestone independently.
How to display a rollover safely
- Include the weekday and full date in your calendar title.
- Use a 24-hour time or add AM/PM explicitly.
- Set a second reminder in your local time if maintenance may delay access.
- Tell friends the local date as well as the hour; “11 PM” without a date is ambiguous around a season change.
Conversion methods compared
Several methods can produce a local time, but they differ in how well they handle seasonal rules and revised announcements.
| Method | Timezone database accuracy | Daylight-saving handling | Shows date rollover | Responds to a revised Epic time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Date-aware timezone converter | Uses named-location rules when its database is current | Automatic for the selected date and location | Normally explicit | Fast: re-enter the new timestamp |
| Calendar event with a named timezone | Depends on the calendar and operating-system timezone data | Automatic when the event uses a location zone | Yes, in the event’s local date | Fast: edit the event after an announcement change |
| World-clock service | Usually location based; verify its update status | Usually automatic | Often shown, but inspect the date | Fast for a new time, manual for an edited alert |
| Manual arithmetic with a fixed UTC offset | Low when seasonal rules apply | Not automatic | Easy to miss | Requires a new calculation |
For a one-off launch, a date-aware converter is sufficient. A calendar is more useful when you need several reminders or want the event to remain correct after travel. Manual arithmetic is appropriate only when you have confirmed the source and destination offsets for that exact date.

Timezone conversion cannot correct a schedule that Epic has changed. Epic’s Battle Pass web page and in-game Battle Pass tab show the current season’s end date, and Epic warns that unforeseen factors can change it. Near a launch or season end, check those locations again and monitor Epic’s official social channels for a revised time.
Best Value
Keep launch milestones separate
When an announcement distinguishes downtime, patch download and playable access, create separate calendar entries. Downtime is when access stops; patch availability is when a download may begin; playable access is when the new season can actually be entered. Converting one of these and labeling it as another can lead to a missed event even if the timezone math is perfect.
Build a revision-resistant reminder
- Save the original announcement text, including its source timezone.
- Create a calendar event in the named source timezone and add a second display in your local zone.
- Add a note identifying the milestone, such as “downtime begins” or “playable access expected.”
- Set a reminder to recheck the Battle Pass page and Epic channels shortly before the event.
- If Epic posts a revision, edit the source timestamp and let the calendar recalculate instead of changing only the local hour.
Converting a new season announcement in practice
Suppose an announcement says a season begins at a particular time in ET. First, enter that date and time as Eastern Time, not as your current offset. Next, choose your city’s location zone. Read the resulting weekday, date and clock time. Finally, compare the result with the device clock and any in-game schedule. If the announcement later moves the launch by 30 minutes, replace the original timestamp and repeat the conversion; do not add 30 minutes to a manually copied reminder if the date could cross midnight.
If the post gives only a date and no timezone, do not guess. Look for the complete timestamp in the linked announcement, the Battle Pass page or an official follow-up. A date without a source zone cannot be converted reliably.

Troubleshooting incorrect or conflicting times
The converter and console disagree by one hour
Check whether one side is observing daylight saving and the other is using a fixed offset. Confirm the selected city, not just an abbreviation such as “CST,” and verify that the device is set to automatic timezone and clock synchronization.
The local date is different from the post
This is usually a midnight rollover, not an error. Re-read the converter’s weekday and date, then share the complete local date with your group. Do not force the local result to retain the announcement’s calendar date.
The converted time has passed but the season is unavailable
The timestamp may mark downtime or an expected start rather than playable access. Check Epic’s current Battle Pass information, in-game notices and official social updates for maintenance extensions or a revised schedule.
The competitive schedule looks different from a social post
Epic’s competitive schedule is presented in device-local time, while a social post may state a reference zone. Confirm the device timezone, convert the social timestamp yourself, and compare the two entries only after identifying the event they describe.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Item Shop did not refresh at the exact converted minute
Epic describes the Item Shop and Webshop refresh as occurring around 0:00 AM GMT. Allow for an approximate refresh and check the shop rather than treating midnight as a guaranteed second-by-second change.
