Use wkhtmltopdf --encoding utf-8 'https://example.com/hindi-page' hindi-page.pdf to save a Hindi webpage as a PDF. UTF-8 helps when a page’s encoding is undeclared or detected incorrectly, but it does not supply missing Devanagari fonts or ensure a modern, dynamic page will render correctly. Check the PDF for legible Hindi text and complete content.
Convert a Hindi page from a URL
Install wkhtmltopdf, then run this command in a terminal:

wkhtmltopdf --encoding utf-8 'https://example.com/hindi-page' hindi-page.pdfReplace the example URL with the page you want to convert. The command takes a URL or filename as its page input and writes the PDF to the final output path. Its general form is wkhtmltopdf [GLOBAL OPTION]... [OBJECT]... <output file>. See the official usage guide for available options.
When the command finishes, open the PDF and check the Hindi text, page layout, and whether the whole page appears. A successful command does not by itself confirm that the page rendered as intended.

Check Hindi text encoding and fonts
Set UTF-8 when needed
Web pages should declare their character encoding. If the page does not declare it correctly, or the converter guesses incorrectly, --encoding utf-8 tells wkhtmltopdf which encoding to use. The tool’s settings accept UTF-8 strings, and its web.defaultEncoding setting is a fallback for documents that do not specify their encoding properly. See the usage guide and library settings reference.
Confirm Devanagari font coverage
Encoding and font coverage are separate issues. UTF-8 can represent Hindi text, but the conversion environment still needs a font that contains the required Devanagari glyphs. The project’s downloads page identifies fontconfig and freetype2 among its runtime font dependencies; it does not prescribe one particular Hindi font or guarantee that every installation has suitable glyph coverage. If characters appear as empty boxes or are missing, check the fonts available to the machine or container running wkhtmltopdf, not just the HTML encoding.
Convert a local HTML file
Pass the local HTML path instead of a URL:
wkhtmltopdf --encoding utf-8 /path/to/hindi-page.html hindi-page.pdfFor local pages, make sure linked stylesheets, images, and fonts are available to the converter. Local-file access is controlled by options including --allow <path> and --enable-local-file-access. Prefer allowing only the directories the page needs. The default restrictions can vary by build, so check wkhtmltopdf --extended-help or the manual installed with your version before enabling access broadly.

Wait for dynamically loaded page content
JavaScript is enabled by default, and the documented default JavaScript delay is 200 milliseconds. A page that fills in content asynchronously may need more time before capture. For example:
wkhtmltopdf --encoding utf-8 --javascript-delay 2000 'https://example.com/hindi-page' hindi-page.pdfChoose a delay that fits the page rather than treating this example value as universal. If the page can signal readiness using window.status, use --window-status <value> to wait for that value instead. These options control when the converter proceeds; they cannot guarantee that every site’s scripts or content have finished. Inspect the PDF for missing sections or placeholders.
Adjust PDF layout when necessary
wkhtmltopdf supports paper size, margins, orientation, headers and footers, and printing page backgrounds. Apply only the options the page needs. For a wide page, for example, set an appropriate paper size and landscape orientation:

Know the version and security limits
The official downloads page lists wkhtmltopdf 0.12.6 as the stable series and gives its release date as June 11, 2020. Because that release is dated, do not assume it behaves like a current browser on pages that depend on newer web features; verify the output for the specific site and installed build.
The project also warns against processing untrusted HTML without sanitizing it: user-supplied HTML or JavaScript can expose a system to complete server takeover. This matters especially when wkhtmltopdf runs in an automated service or handles customer-provided content. See the project downloads and deployment guidance.
