Apple Invites has two separate sets of controls: you can manage your own notification preferences, while the event host decides how guests are approved and what invitees can see. Notification settings are in the app’s account area or on iCloud.com; privacy choices are made in each event’s settings.
Change your notification preferences in the Apple Invites app
On iPhone, open Apple Invites and tap your Apple Account photo or the Notifications Settings button in the top-right corner. Set the categories separately:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Push Notifications: Turn the individual push-notification options on or off.
- Email Updates: Turn the individual email-update options on or off.
These are personal preferences for events you host or attend. Apple also documents Calendar Sync in the app; it is separate from notification preferences. See Apple’s notification settings guide.
Adjust email notifications on iCloud.com
On the web, sign in at icloud.com/invites, open Event Settings, and adjust the options under Email Notifications. The documented web path is for email notification settings; the app’s separate Push Notifications and Email Updates categories are not described there.

Set privacy options for an event you host
Open the event and go to Event Settings in Apple Invites. These choices apply to the event, rather than changing your personal notification preferences. Apple documents the following controls in its event settings guide:
Require approval for guests
Use Approve Guests when you want to review requests to join before allowing people into the event. Approval is a host control over joining, not a way to make a shared public link private.

Control when invitees can see the guest list
The setting Show Who’s Invited controls whether guests can see who else is invited before they reply. By default, guests can see the list after replying; enabling the setting lets them see it before replying.

Control the invitation background preview
Remove Background Preview affects whether invitees can preview the event’s background before replying. On the web, Apple’s interface may place controls under Manage Guests or use the label Show Background Image for the background setting.

Choose carefully how you share an invitation link
Apple says, “Anyone with the link can view and join your event.” A public link is therefore suitable only if you are comfortable with anyone who receives it being able to view the event and attempt to join. Turning on guest approval can gate joining, but it does not prevent people from viewing the event through the public link.
Apple also describes an individual invitation link as uniquely generated and usable only once. This is a different access option from a public link, but neither link type guarantees that a recipient will keep the invitation private. See Apple’s guest invitation instructions.

What guests need to use Apple Invites
Apple documents Apple Invites for iPhone and iCloud.com. Guests can view an invitation and RSVP without an Apple Account, and feature availability may vary by country or region. Apple’s Apple Invites User Guide does not establish system-level notification permission steps or detailed data collection and retention practices, so the controls above should not be taken as a complete account of those topics.
