Zyte MCP connects an AI coding agent to Zyte’s web-data tools and Scrapy Cloud. The connector itself is free to use, but API requests and Scrapy Cloud work performed through it are billed to the connected Zyte organization. You can set it up through a supported agent client, verify that requests are reaching Zyte, and limit spending with a key-level spending limit.
What Zyte MCP lets an agent do
Zyte MCP is a remote Model Context Protocol server: an agent calls its tools to fetch pages, search the web, extract information, or work with Scrapy Cloud resources. The documented endpoint is https://mcp.zyte.com/v1/mcp. It is a software connection, not a device or a standalone web-scraping application.

Zyte’s Agentic Web Data documentation describes these capabilities:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Fetch a page over HTTP: use
fetch_httpfor a direct request. HTTP tools can emulate a mobile device. - Fetch a rendered page: use
fetch_pagewhen the task calls for browser-rendered content. It can return rendered HTML or a screenshot and supports interactions such as clicking, typing, scrolling, and waiting for page elements. - Extract structured data: request extraction from HTTP or browser-fetched pages.
- Search the web: ask the agent to find relevant pages, with location selection available for search requests.
- Inspect Zyte API usage and pricing: tools can look up domain pricing and usage statistics.
- Work with Scrapy Cloud: an agent can inspect and operate on projects available to the connected account.
Fetch and extraction tools support request location and IP-type selection, cookies, and session continuity. In practice, you describe the outcome—such as extracting product fields from a page—and the agent selects a tool, sends a request, and works with the returned data.

Connect Zyte MCP to Codex CLI
Zyte’s setup is client-specific. Its official setup guide provides Codex CLI configuration instructions; use that guide for the current configuration syntax rather than copying a configuration meant for a different client.
- Open Zyte’s Agentic Web Data setup guide and follow its Codex CLI instructions to add the remote server at
https://mcp.zyte.com/v1/mcp. - Authenticate: run
codex mcp login zytein your terminal. Sign in to the Zyte account and authorize the organization the agent should use. If the account has more than one organization, select the intended one when prompted. - Make a small test request: ask the agent, for example, “Fetch https://example.com with Zyte and tell me the title of the page.” Explicitly naming Zyte helps check that the request goes through the Zyte tools.
- Verify activity: look for a Zyte tool call in the agent’s activity and check whether the request appears in Zyte API statistics.
Zyte also describes Agentic Web Data as a coding-agent offering that combines agent skills and MCP tools. Its documentation lists Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, and compatible agent-plugin clients; available client instructions may differ. The same page distinguishes this from Web Scraping Copilot, a Visual Studio Code extension: choose MCP when you want an agent-facing remote tool interface, and the extension when your workflow is centered on VS Code’s interface.

What Zyte MCP costs—and how to limit usage
The MCP connection is free to use; that does not make the work it triggers free. Zyte says API requests made through MCP are billed at Zyte API rates and count toward rate limits. Work started in Scrapy Cloud is charged under Scrapy Cloud pricing. A single instruction can lead to several API requests—for example, when an agent processes multiple pages in a paginated listing.
For API activity, Zyte’s documentation says usage can be tracked through the dedicated mcp_access_key, and that a spending limit can be set on that key. Use those controls if you need to monitor or cap what an agent can spend. Check the Zyte API pricing page and Scrapy Cloud’s applicable pricing before use: API costs depend on the target website and request type, and pricing terms can change. Zyte says it charges for successful responses; actions, network captures, screenshots, and automatic extraction may add charges.

Connecting an account gives the agent access to the Scrapy Cloud projects available to that account. Depending on the tool and request, it may start or cancel jobs, create or change schedules, change project settings, or write and delete collection records. Zyte warns that deleting schedules, collections, or records cannot be undone.
