Samsung Galaxy phones are reported to lack Android’s full multi-user profiles: separate spaces where different people can use their own apps, accounts, settings, and home screens on one device. That means adding another Google account to your existing profile—or using a privacy or app-cloning feature—is not the same as giving someone a separate user space.
What a separate user profile does
Android’s multi-user feature is designed for people who share one device. Each user gets a distinct workspace and separate app data. Google describes a profile as having “a personal space on the device for custom Home screens, accounts, apps, settings, and more.” Some system settings may still be shared, and notifications from another user’s profile are not shown until that profile is active, according to the Android Open Source Project’s documentation.

This is different from adding a second Google account inside your own profile: that account does not create a separate device-wide workspace. It is also distinct from an Android work profile, which separates work data for a different purpose.

Why the option may be missing on a Samsung phone
Android’s underlying platform supports multiple users, but that does not mean every Android phone offers the feature. The Android Open Source Project says multi-user support is disabled by default and manufacturers must configure it. In Google’s Android Help instructions, the availability check is practical: if Settings does not show “Add user” or “Add user or profile,” the device cannot add users by that route.

A September 23, 2026, Android Police article by Sanuj Bhatia, syndicated by Yahoo Tech, reports that Samsung Galaxy smartphones lack native multi-user accounts while Samsung tablets support them. Bhatia describes trying to share a Galaxy S24 Ultra with his father and finding that he could not create another user. This is the article’s reporting and the author’s account—not a Samsung model-by-model compatibility list or independent test of every Galaxy phone, software version, and region.
The article does not establish why Samsung phones lack the feature. It speculates about possible security or Knox-related considerations but offers no confirmed explanation from Samsung. Android’s configuration model explains how manufacturers can differ; it does not establish Samsung’s motive.

What Samsung’s alternatives can—and cannot—do
The same article points to Secure Folder and Dual Messenger as narrower workarounds, not full replacements for a second user profile. Secure Folder can protect selected apps and files; Dual Messenger can create an additional instance of supported messaging apps. Neither should be treated as a device-wide separate user with its own complete workspace, settings, and app data.
- Need a second account in one supported app? Dual Messenger may address that limited use case, where the app and device support it.
- Need to protect selected files or apps? Secure Folder may suit that narrower privacy need.
- Need another person’s separate device-wide space? Neither feature is documented here as equivalent to Android multi-user profiles.
How to check whether your device offers users or guests
- Open Settings and look for Users or Multiple users. The exact menu location can vary by device and software version.
- If available, choose Add user or Add user or profile, then follow the on-screen setup. Google’s Android Help page describes adding a user or guest through Settings when the device supports it.
- If neither add-user option appears, Google says the device cannot add users through that route. Do not assume that adding a Google account elsewhere in Settings creates a separate profile.
When a guest profile is a better fit
Google distinguishes a regular user profile, suited to someone who may use the device regularly, from a guest profile for temporary use. A guest is easier to remove when the visit is over. Both options still depend on the device exposing the relevant controls; they are not guaranteed on every Android phone.

If separate profiles are essential
Google documents user-profile setup, switching, and deletion for the Pixel Tablet. That is a tablet option for a shared-device requirement, not a way to add profiles to a Samsung phone. Check the specific device’s current documentation before buying or relying on any model for multi-user support.
