If the receiver supports two subs, connect one to each output and configure its setup menu. With one line-level output, an RCA Y-splitter can feed two compatible subs; a suitable line-level output on the first sub may also allow a daisy-chain.
Check your receiver and subwoofer connections first
Before wiring anything, consult the manuals for the receiver and both subwoofers. Confirm how many subwoofer outputs the receiver provides, whether those outputs support one or two subs, and which input and pass-through terminals are available on the subwoofers. The connection method depends on those specific capabilities.

Most powered-subwoofer connections use a receiver jack labeled SUB OUT, SUB PRE OUT or a similar name and an LFE or line-level input on the sub. Use a compatible RCA or subwoofer cable. The terminals and setup described for one subwoofer do not automatically establish a method for connecting two.

Choose a connection method
Two subwoofer outputs on the receiver
If the receiver supports two subwoofers, run a cable from each receiver output to one subwoofer. Then select the two-subwoofer option in the receiver’s configuration menu and follow its instructions. For example, the Denon AVR-X4500H manual describes configuring “2 spkrs” and setting level and distance separately for each subwoofer. By contrast, Onkyo says the TX-SR494 sends the same signal from both SUBWOOFER PRE OUT jacks. Two outputs therefore do not necessarily mean separate signals or independent controls; check your model’s manual.

One receiver output and an RCA Y-splitter
If the receiver has one line-level subwoofer output, an RCA Y-splitter can divide its signal between two compatible subs. Connect the receiver output to the splitter’s single end, then run a cable from each of its two branches to a subwoofer input. Confirm that the splitter and subwoofer inputs match the equipment manuals before connecting.
Daisy-chain through the first subwoofer
A daisy-chain may work if the first sub has a suitable line-level output that can feed the second sub. Connect the receiver to the first sub’s input, then connect its output to the second sub’s input. Match terminal types—for example, RCA input to RCA output—and verify in the subwoofer manual that the output is appropriate for this use.

Configure and calibrate both subwoofers
After connecting the cables, use the receiver’s setup menu to enable the supported subwoofer configuration. Menu names and available controls vary. Some receivers let you set each sub’s level and distance separately; others send the same signal to both outputs.

Calibrate the subs for their actual positions in the room. Even if their settings begin similarly, different placement can mean each needs adjustment for the best result. Follow the receiver and subwoofer instructions for calibration rather than assuming identical settings will work equally well.

Connection checklist
- Verify the receiver’s supported number of subwoofers and the function of its output jacks.
- Confirm that each sub accepts the connection you plan to use, including any pass-through output needed for daisy-chaining.
- Use separate receiver outputs, a compatible RCA Y-splitter, or a supported line-level daisy-chain as appropriate.
- Configure the receiver for the connected subs, then calibrate them for their room positions.
