To use a Windows PC’s desktop from a Samsung tablet, enable Remote Desktop on a Windows Pro PC, then add that PC in the Remote Desktop app on the tablet and sign in with an authorized account. This is different from Phone Link, which brings selected mobile features to a PC.
Check that the Windows PC can host a Remote Desktop connection
On the PC you want to control, open Settings > System > About. Under Windows specifications, check Edition. Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop host instructions require the remote PC to run Windows Pro. A Windows Home PC does not meet that prerequisite for this workflow; changing a setting on the tablet will not resolve it. Microsoft’s Remote Desktop setup guide explains the host requirement.

Turn on Remote Desktop and record the PC name
- On the Windows PC, open Settings > System > Remote Desktop.
- Turn on Remote Desktop and confirm the prompt.
- Note the PC name shown on that page. You will enter it in the tablet’s client.
Keep the PC powered on and available when you want to connect. Microsoft’s setup sequence is to enable Remote Desktop on the host and use its PC name from the client. See Microsoft’s instructions.

Connect from the Samsung tablet
- On the tablet, open the Remote Desktop app Microsoft directs Android users to download from Google Play. The exact listing name and availability can vary by market; check the store in your region.
- Add a PC in the app and enter the Windows PC name you recorded.
- Select the PC, wait for the connection, and sign in with an account authorized to access that Windows PC.
Once connected, Microsoft describes the experience as access to the remote PC’s apps, files, and desktop as if sitting in front of it. Microsoft Remote Desktop support and its Android app instructions describe the connection steps.

Remote Desktop or Phone Link?

Phone Link is not the tablet-to-PC desktop procedure. Its supported functions depend on the Samsung device, Android version, and market; Microsoft lists compatible devices and feature qualifications on its supported-devices page. Microsoft’s separate guides cover Phone Link setup and linking an Android device.
If the tablet cannot find or connect to the PC
- Check the host: Confirm Remote Desktop is still turned on in Settings > System > Remote Desktop.
- Check the name: Compare the PC name entered on the tablet with the one shown in Windows settings.
- Check network reachability: The tablet must be able to reach the PC on the network. Microsoft’s basic setup instructions do not say that both devices must always be on the same Wi-Fi network; the same-Wi-Fi condition belongs to the Phone Link setup described above.
- Check sign-in: Use an account that is allowed to access the host PC.
If connecting across different networks, network reachability and configuration must be handled for the specific home, work, or managed network. Ask the network administrator or consult current Microsoft networking guidance; do not expose Remote Desktop directly to the public internet based only on these basic setup steps.
