Troubleshoot an Xbox that does not detect the controller

Disconnect the cable from the controller and console, then reconnect each end firmly. A plug that is slightly loose can provide an intermittent or absent connection while looking inserted.
2. Try another Xbox USB port
Move the cable to another USB port on the console. This separates a controller or cable seating issue from a problem with one particular port.
3. Watch the status LED
After reconnecting, wait for the LED to become solid. If it never reaches that documented ready state, leave the game and repeat the cable and port checks rather than assuming the game itself is at fault.

4. Check the cable path and seating distance
Make sure the 2.5-meter cable is not stretched, sharply bent or trapped under the console or furniture. A tight cable can pull the connector partly out of the socket.
5. Test outside the game
Return to the Xbox interface and try navigating with the controller. If it works in the dashboard but not in one game, inspect that game’s controller settings and support information. The controller is intended for Xbox platforms, but individual games can choose which input devices they accept.
Troubleshoot a Windows PC that does not detect it
Confirm the operating-system requirement

Check the game’s input mode
The PC instructions assume a game that supports Xbox/XInput controllers. Open the game’s input menu and select the Xbox-style controller if a choice is offered. A game that only accepts keyboard and mouse input will not use the pad even when Windows has detected it correctly.
