Use Xbox Wireless to connect the Xbox Nano Controller to an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. Use Bluetooth for a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, Android device or iPhone. Turn on the controller, hold its Pair button for about three seconds until the Xbox button flashes, then select the controller in the host device’s pairing screen.

On Windows, that screen is Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device. On iPhone, use Settings > Bluetooth and tap Xbox Wireless Controller. Android uses its Bluetooth or Connected devices menu, while an Xbox console requires its physical Pair/sync button.

Which connection does each device use?

The Nano Controller has two relevant wireless routes. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles pair through Xbox Wireless. Windows PCs, Android devices and iPhones pair through Bluetooth. The controller’s Pair button starts discovery in both cases, but the host-side steps are different.

Host device Wireless method Where you finish pairing Important limitation
Xbox Series X|S Xbox Wireless Press the console’s Pair/sync button, then the controller’s Pair button The location of the console button varies by model
Xbox One Xbox Wireless Press the console’s Pair/sync button, then the controller’s Pair button Follow the on-screen prompt if the button is difficult to locate
Windows 10/11 PC Bluetooth, or Xbox Wireless on PCs that support it Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device Games still need to support controller input
Android Bluetooth Bluetooth or Connected devices list Menu names vary between Android devices and versions
iPhone Bluetooth Settings > Bluetooth > Other Devices iOS version, device compatibility and app support affect operation

In every case, the controller appears with the Bluetooth name Xbox Wireless Controller. A flashing Xbox button means it is looking for a host. On a console, a steady light confirms the Xbox Wireless connection.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

The connection method is not interchangeable. A console is not paired from the same Bluetooth list used by a phone, and a PC without Xbox Wireless hardware cannot use the Xbox Wireless computer path. Selecting the correct route first prevents most apparent pairing failures.

Prepare the controller before pairing

  1. Make sure the host device is switched on and within normal wireless range.
  2. Press the Xbox button on the Nano Controller to turn it on.
  3. Locate the controller’s Pair button. Hold it for approximately three seconds, until the Xbox button begins flashing.
  4. Open the host’s pairing screen immediately and select the controller when it appears.

If the controller has no usable charge, wireless pairing cannot complete. It has an internal rechargeable battery, and Microsoft specifies a USB-C cable for charging; that cable is sold separately. Charge it before troubleshooting a device that never reaches the flashing or connection stage.

Keep the controller close to the host while pairing and pause other nearby pairing attempts. The important visual sequence is simple: Xbox button steady before discovery, flashing during discovery, and steady again after a successful connection. If the light never flashes, the Pair button was not held long enough or the controller needs power.

Connect to an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One

Xbox consoles use Xbox Wireless rather than the Bluetooth menu used by phones and most PCs.

  1. Turn on the Xbox console.
  2. Press the console’s Pair or Sync button. The exact physical location differs between Xbox models, so use the console’s on-screen prompt if necessary.
  3. Press and hold the Nano Controller’s Pair button for about three seconds. Keep holding until the Xbox button flashes.
  4. Wait while the console and controller discover each other.
  5. When the Xbox button becomes steady, pairing is complete. Use the controller to navigate the dashboard or start a game.

If the light continues flashing, the console has not completed the Xbox Wireless link. Turn the controller off and on, start the console’s Pair procedure again, and repeat the three-second hold. Do not select the controller in a phone’s Bluetooth list for this console connection; Xbox consoles use their Xbox Wireless pairing process.

The console button’s position is not identical across Xbox models. Rather than guessing, follow the on-screen pairing instruction or identify the physical Pair/Sync control on the front or side of the console. Press the console control first, then put the controller into Pair mode so both devices are listening at the same time.

Pair with a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC

Bluetooth method

  1. Press the controller’s Xbox button to turn it on.
  2. Hold the Pair button for about three seconds, until the Xbox button flashes.
  3. On the PC, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
  4. Turn Bluetooth on if it is off.
  5. Select Add device, choose the Bluetooth option, and wait for the discovered-device list.
  6. Select Xbox Wireless Controller.
  7. Wait for Windows to report that the controller is connected, then open a game that supports gamepad input.

This is the simplest route for a PC with working Bluetooth. If Windows does not list the controller, leave the Add device screen open, repeat the controller’s Pair-button hold, and try the discovery scan again.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Use the Bluetooth category for ordinary Bluetooth pairing. Choosing a different device category can hide a controller that is already flashing and make it seem as though the PC cannot see it. Once Windows displays the controller as connected, the operating-system pairing step is complete; game support is a separate check.

Xbox Wireless method on supported PCs

Some PCs support Xbox Wireless directly. Microsoft’s documented sequence is different from ordinary Bluetooth pairing:

  1. Hold the controller’s Xbox button until it flashes.
  2. Hold the Pair button until the flashing speeds up.
  3. In Windows, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Add device.
  4. Choose Everything else rather than the ordinary Bluetooth category.
  5. Select Xbox Wireless Controller when it appears.

Use this path only when the PC has Xbox Wireless support. A PC that has Bluetooth but no Xbox Wireless hardware should use the Bluetooth steps above. If you are unsure which wireless standard the computer has, Bluetooth is the broadly applicable Windows option.

Check input in the game

A Windows connection confirms that the operating system sees the controller; it does not guarantee that every game uses it. Test in a title with documented controller support. If Windows shows the controller as connected but the game ignores every button, close and reopen the game after pairing and check that the game’s own input setting is set to a controller or gamepad.

Some games expose controller support only after a compatible device is present when the game starts. Reopening the game is therefore a useful diagnostic, but it cannot add support to a title that accepts only keyboard, mouse or touch input.

Connect to an Android phone or tablet

  1. Open the Android device’s Settings app.
  2. Open Connected devices or the equivalent Bluetooth menu; the wording differs by manufacturer and Android version.
  3. Enable Bluetooth.
  4. Press the controller’s Xbox button to turn it on.
  5. Hold the Pair button for about three seconds, until the Xbox button flashes.
  6. Tap Xbox Wireless Controller in the available-device list.
  7. Accept any pairing confirmation shown by Android.
  8. Launch a game or app that explicitly supports controller input and test the sticks and buttons.

Xbox identifies Android as a compatible Bluetooth platform, but compatibility is not universal across every Android device, operating-system version or game. If the controller is paired yet a game does nothing, the most likely limitation is the app’s input support rather than the wireless link.

Android manufacturers place Bluetooth controls in different menus, so look for labels such as Connected devices, Connections or Bluetooth. The device name to select remains Xbox Wireless Controller; do not choose an unrelated headset or previously saved controller entry.

Connect to an iPhone

  1. Open Settings > Bluetooth on the iPhone.
  2. Switch Bluetooth on.
  3. Press the controller’s Xbox button to turn it on.
  4. Hold the Pair button for approximately three seconds, until the Xbox button flashes.
  5. Look under Other Devices.
  6. Tap Xbox Wireless Controller.
  7. Wait for the controller to move into the connected-device list.
  8. Open a game or app that supports game controllers.

Microsoft’s mobile guidance qualifies Bluetooth support by device and software version, and the app itself must accept controller input. A successful entry under Bluetooth settings therefore proves pairing, not that every iPhone game will respond to the Nano Controller.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the controller appears under My Devices but not inside a game, leave Bluetooth settings and test a title with explicit controller support. If it is listed but marked disconnected, tap the entry again after putting the controller back into Pair mode.

What to do when the controller does not appear

Restart discovery on both sides

Turn the controller off, turn it on again, and hold Pair for the full three seconds until the Xbox button flashes. On the host, switch Bluetooth off and on again, reopen the device list, and run Add device or the equivalent scan. For a console, press its Pair/sync button again before putting the controller into Pair mode.

Remove a stale controller record

If the phone or PC keeps reconnecting to an old entry, remove the existing Xbox Wireless Controller record from that host’s Bluetooth settings. Then repeat the pairing sequence as a new device. This clears a saved connection that can prevent the controller from entering a fresh session.

Check power and timing

A depleted internal battery can prevent the controller from entering discovery. Charge it with a USB-C cable, then retry. Hold Pair for about three seconds rather than tapping it briefly; the Xbox button must flash before the host can discover the controller.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the connection method

  • For Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, use the console’s Pair/sync button and Xbox Wireless procedure.
  • For Windows Bluetooth, use Add device and the Bluetooth category.
  • For a PC with Xbox Wireless hardware, use Add device > Everything else.
  • For Android and iPhone, select the controller from the mobile Bluetooth list.

Choosing the wrong route can make a correctly functioning controller appear invisible. In particular, a console will not be paired by selecting it in a phone-style Bluetooth list.

Separate pairing from game support

If the host reports a connection but no game responds, test another controller-compatible title or app. Bluetooth pairing and game input are separate layers: the operating system can accept the controller while an individual game offers only touch, keyboard, mouse or a different input API. The mobile game also needs to support controllers on that device and version.

Charging, cables and configuration

The Nano Controller uses an internal rechargeable battery. A USB-C charging cable is required, and Microsoft says the cable is sold separately. Wireless pairing does not charge the controller, so keep a compatible USB-C cable available if the battery is depleted or if you need to configure the controller through Windows.

Microsoft’s Xbox Accessories app supports button mapping on supported Xbox consoles and Windows 10/11. The Windows app requires a compatible USB-C cable. Connect the controller with that cable when the app asks for a wired connection, then apply the available mapping options. The app’s configuration features do not change the basic pairing split: consoles still use Xbox Wireless, while Bluetooth remains the normal route for Windows PCs without Xbox Wireless, Android and iPhone.

Buying the controller does not automatically include the charging lead. Budget for a compatible USB-C cable if you do not already have one. The same cable requirement matters when using the Windows Xbox Accessories app, so it is both a charging accessory and a configuration accessory.

Why the compact design matters for mobile use

Xbox Wire’s October 14, 2026 launch announcement describes the XBOX Nano Controller as a little over 5 inches long and 3.5 ounces, with all 18 standard gameplay inputs. Those dimensions make it easier to carry with a phone or tablet than a full-size controller, but they do not alter the pairing procedure or guarantee compatibility with a particular game.

James Hunter, general manager of Xbox Accessories, described it as “our smallest controller, lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones.” That portability is useful for Bluetooth play on a phone, but the practical requirements remain the same: a compatible host, a charged internal battery and a game that accepts controller input.

The same announcement listed a US launch price of $49.99. That figure is tied to the US launch and can change by region, retailer or date, so it should not be treated as a universal current price. Xbox Wire also reported a Samsung bundle offering two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new US members; price, eligibility, timing and regional availability can change.

Choosing the right connection in practice

  • Use Xbox Wireless on an Xbox console: it is the console’s specified connection method and requires the console Pair/sync button.
  • Use Bluetooth on a Windows laptop or desktop: it requires only the PC’s Bluetooth radio and the Add device picker.
  • Use Xbox Wireless on a compatible Windows PC: this is an alternative when the computer supports that standard; choose Everything else in Add device.
  • Use Bluetooth on Android or iPhone: both platforms list the controller as Xbox Wireless Controller in their Bluetooth settings.
  • Check the app before blaming the connection: the game or app must implement controller input, and mobile support can depend on the device and software version.
  • Plan for charging: the internal battery needs a separately purchased USB-C cable.
  • Consider portability: at a little over 5 inches and 3.5 ounces, the Nano is designed for compact carry, especially alongside a phone or tablet.

Once the correct host procedure is selected, the essential signal is the same: hold Pair until the Xbox button flashes, select Xbox Wireless Controller on the host, and wait for the host to confirm the connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Xbox Nano Controller use Bluetooth?

Yes, for Windows 10/11 PCs, Android devices and iPhones. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles use Xbox Wireless instead.

How long do I hold the Pair button?

Hold it for about three seconds, until the Xbox button flashes. On a supported Xbox Wireless PC, hold it until the flashing speeds up after the Xbox button is flashing.

Why is my controller connected but not working in a game?

Pairing only confirms that the operating system sees the controller. The game or app must support controller input, and mobile support can depend on the device and software version. Try a title with documented gamepad support and restart it after pairing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What cable charges the Xbox Nano Controller?

It uses a USB-C charging cable. Microsoft says the cable is required and sold separately.

Can I pair the Nano Controller with an Xbox from the phone’s Bluetooth menu?

No. Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One use the console’s Xbox Wireless Pair/Sync procedure. Press the console button, then hold the controller’s Pair button.

What should I do if Windows cannot find it?

Confirm the controller’s Xbox button is flashing, keep Windows’ Add device screen open, rescan, and remove any old Xbox Wireless Controller entry before trying again. Use the Bluetooth category unless the PC specifically supports Xbox Wireless.

Where is the controller listed on iPhone?

Open Settings > Bluetooth, put the controller into Pair mode, then tap Xbox Wireless Controller under Other Devices.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the Nano Controller compatible with every Android game or iPhone game?

No. Android and iOS compatibility depends on the device and software version, and each game or app must implement controller support.

The Bottom Line

Pair the XBOX Nano Controller to Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One with Xbox Wireless: press the console’s Pair/Sync button, then hold the controller’s Pair button until the Xbox light flashes. For Windows 10/11, Android and iPhone, use Bluetooth and select Xbox Wireless Controller. If pairing succeeds but a game ignores input, check the game’s controller support. The internal battery charges through USB-C, and Microsoft says the cable is sold separately.
