To connect Gyre to YouTube, start a stream in Gyre, choose YouTube, and select channel authorization. Sign in to the Google Account that owns or manages the channel, complete any Google two-step verification challenge, review and approve Gyre’s requested access, and select the correct channel. You do not need to turn off two-step verification. YouTube channel verification and live-stream eligibility are separate from Google sign-in security.
Connect Gyre using channel authorization
- Start a YouTube stream in Gyre. Sign in to Gyre, begin creating a stream, and choose YouTube as the platform. Gyre’s connection instructions describe channel authorization and manual stream-key setup.
- Choose channel authorization. Sign in through the Google flow with the account that owns or manages the intended YouTube channel. Gyre’s authorization route uses Google/YouTube access rather than asking you to give Gyre your Google password; YouTube’s Live API uses OAuth 2.0 for authorized access to private user data. - Complete Google’s sign-in checks. If prompted for two-step verification (2SV), use a method offered for that account, such as a Google prompt, passkey, security key, authenticator code, phone code, or backup code. Available methods can vary by account and sign-in context. Enter codes only in the Google sign-in flow, and never share them with another person. Google Account Help: Turn on 2-Step Verification
- Review the access request. Check what Gyre is asking to access and approve only if you are comfortable. Google recommends reviewing a third-party app’s privacy and security disclosures before granting access to Google Account data. Google Account Help: Manage third-party apps and services
- Select the intended YouTube channel. If the Google Account manages more than one channel, verify the channel shown in the authorization flow before continuing. Then finish configuring the stream in Gyre. Gyre says channel authorization can create and configure the broadcast, bind a stream key, and transfer stream metadata.
Two different kinds of verification
Google Account two-step verification
2SV adds an additional check to some Google sign-ins. It is an account-security measure, not a Gyre-specific setting. Google describes it as an extra layer of protection if a password is stolen. The Gyre setup instructions do not say to disable it.

YouTube channel verification and live access
YouTube phone verification unlocks live streaming, while the YouTube Live API requires a channel to be approved or enabled for Live. If the channel is not eligible, an API request may fail for insufficient permissions. These YouTube requirements are independent of whether Google asks for a 2SV code during sign-in. Choose channel authorization or manual stream-key setup

Never paste a stream key into a public page, message, or place you do not trust: it can be used to send a stream to your channel. Use Gyre’s documented manual route if channel authorization is unsuitable. Gyre setup instructions

Fix authorization errors or the wrong channel
- Google asks for a second step: Finish the challenge in Google’s own sign-in flow. If you cannot use the offered method, use Google’s alternate verification or account recovery options rather than disabling account protections to authorize an app.
- The wrong channel appears: Confirm that you signed in with the account that owns or manages the target channel, then inspect the selected channel carefully. For Brand Account or multi-channel setups, some third-party tools may select the wrong channel or return an error. YouTube suggests setting a default channel when an app does not support channel switching. YouTube Help: Manage YouTube channels
- Authorization succeeds but the broadcast cannot start: Check whether the channel has completed YouTube phone verification and is enabled for live streaming. Google 2SV does not grant YouTube Live eligibility.
- You are unsure about the requested access: Do not approve reflexively. Review the permission request and Gyre’s privacy/security disclosures first; cancel if the access is not acceptable to you.
- The API route is not suitable: Use Gyre’s manual stream-key configuration and enter the key and stream settings in the appropriate fields.
