Can Gyre Stream Prerecorded Videos When Your Computer Is Off?

Gyre says a configured prerecorded stream runs from its cloud, so your computer can be turned off. Here’s the setup flow and what cloud streaming does not change about YouTube rights and monetization rules.

Yes. Gyre says a configured stream runs from its cloud infrastructure, so after you upload the videos and start or schedule the broadcast, your computer can be turned off. You do not need to keep a browser open or maintain your own internet connection for the stream to continue, according to Gyre’s FAQ (Gyre FAQ).

What happens when you turn off your computer

Your computer is part of setup, not the ongoing broadcast. Gyre’s help materials say you first need the video files on your computer so you can upload them to Gyre Storage. After upload and configuration, Gyre’s servers send the stream to the destination. Gyre says the stream continues if your laptop is off, your browser is closed, or your internet connection drops (Gyre FAQ; Gyre help).

That is different from streaming directly from a computer with software such as OBS: a local setup generally depends on that machine and its connection remaining available. A cloud service moves the ongoing playback and transmission off your computer; it does not remove the need to prepare the content, configure the destination, or comply with that platform’s rules.

How to set up a prerecorded stream with Gyre

  1. Prepare the video files. Keep the recordings you intend to use on your computer so they are ready to upload. Check that you have rights to use the audio and video in a public livestream.
  2. Upload them to Gyre Storage. Gyre’s workflow begins by uploading the files to its service. Upload time depends on file size and your connection; wait for the upload to complete before relying on the cloud copy.
  3. Choose the playback order. Select a video or arrange the uploaded videos as a playlist, depending on the stream you want to run. Review the sequence and confirm the intended content is included.
  4. Connect the destination. Link the relevant account or supply the destination’s RTMP stream key, as applicable. Gyre’s 2026 setup guide lists YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram, X, Kick, and MixCloud and describes RTMP for compatible platforms; check Gyre’s current setup information for your intended destination (Gyre setup guide).
  5. Start or schedule the broadcast. Confirm the selected video or playlist and destination, then start the stream or set its schedule in Gyre. Once the broadcast is running from Gyre’s cloud, you can shut down your computer.

What turning the computer off does—and does not—solve

It removes the need for a local streaming machine

With a cloud-originated stream, your computer does not have to encode and transmit the broadcast throughout the day. You can upload and configure in advance, then leave the stream running without keeping a desktop, laptop, browser session, or home connection active for that broadcast. This is the practical distinction between cloud playback and a setup that streams directly from your own machine.

It does not grant content rights or guarantee monetization

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams as well as uploaded videos. YouTube reviews a channel’s content for originality and authenticity; repetitive, mass-produced, or reused material without significant original contribution can make a channel ineligible. YouTube’s policy says, “Be your original creation. If you borrow content from someone else, you need to change it significantly to make it your own.” Permission to use someone else’s material does not by itself establish eligibility under the reused-content policy (YouTube channel monetization policies).

Copyright is a separate issue. YouTube requires livestream providers to have the rights needed for the content and to follow Community Guidelines and applicable laws (YouTube Terms of Service). A technically successful stream can still violate rights or fail monetization review. Treat monetization settings in YouTube Studio as a separate configuration step; using a streaming service does not promise ad revenue.

Gyre and StreamNeo: which cloud approach fits?

Gyre is the direct fit if you need a cloud service with the destinations listed in its current guide. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only option for prerecorded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps playback in the cloud, so your computer can be off. StreamNeo is #1 for a YouTube-only 24/7 stream when you want any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

Gyre advertises a seven-day trial; its September 2026 product update describes that trial as including one Full HD stream and 20 GB of storage for up to 15 files. Its published plans differ by storage and concurrent streams, and the homepage lists one simultaneous stream on Start, four HD or one 4K on Start+, and eight HD or two 4K on PRO+. These are Gyre’s published plan claims, not independent performance measurements; confirm current limits and prices on Gyre’s pricing page. StreamNeo’s plans offer the same features at every duration; its slots include one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and team support. Choose based on your destination, required concurrency and storage, and current plan terms.

Common snags and what to check

  • The stream stops when you shut the laptop. Confirm the broadcast was started or scheduled in the cloud service, rather than only started in local streaming software. A file upload alone is not the same as an active broadcast.
  • The uploaded video is missing or incomplete. Check that the upload finished and that the correct file or playlist is selected in the stream configuration.
  • The destination does not receive the broadcast. Recheck the connected account or RTMP stream key and confirm the destination is supported by the service’s current setup guide.
  • The stream works but monetization is unavailable. Review YouTube Studio settings and the channel’s monetization status, then assess the content against YouTube’s originality, reused-content, and copyright requirements. Cloud delivery does not override those policies.
  • You need more streams or storage than a plan allows. Verify the current plan limits and destination support on the provider’s pricing and setup pages before configuring a long-running broadcast.
