Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can connect a Logitech wireless keyboard without its USB receiver only if that exact model supports Bluetooth. If it does, pair it directly with your computer’s Bluetooth settings. If it is a receiver-only model, Bluetooth won’t work, and you need a receiver that matches the keyboard’s protocol. Logitech Support says many of its wireless keyboards support Bluetooth Low Energy, but support depends on the model.
Step 1: Find out whether your keyboard supports Bluetooth
“Wireless” on a Logitech box does not tell you whether the keyboard has Bluetooth. Some models use only a USB receiver, and others offer both.

- Find the model number, usually printed on the underside of the keyboard.
- Look that model up on its Logitech support page and check the specifications or manual for “Bluetooth” or “Bluetooth Low Energy.”
- Look for Easy-Switch keys (numbered 1, 2, 3) or a Bluetooth symbol on the keyboard. These usually indicate a multi-device Bluetooth model, but the spec sheet is the proof.
Logitech’s general support page says a “vast majority” of its new wireless models from September 2021 offered either a Logi Bolt receiver or Bluetooth connections. It gives no number, and older keyboards are less predictable.

Step 2: Pair a Bluetooth-capable keyboard directly
Logi Bolt-compatible products support Bluetooth Low Energy as an alternative to the Bolt receiver, so a Bolt keyboard can also run without it. Logitech does not publish one key sequence that works for every keyboard, so use your model’s manual for the exact button action. The general flow is:
#1 Best Overall
- Fluid Typing Experience: Laptop-like profile with spherically-dished keys shaped for your fingertips delivers a fast, fluid, precise and quieter typing experience
- Automate Repetitive Tasks: Easily create and share time-saving Smart Actions shortcuts to perform multiple actions with a single keystroke with the Logi Options+ app (1)
- Smarter Illumination: Backlit keyboard keys light up as your hands approach and adapt to the environment; Now with more lighting customizations on Logi Options+ (1)
- More Comfort, Deeper Focus: Work for longer with a solid build, low-profile design and an optimum keyboard angle that is better for your wrist posture
- Multi-Device, Multi OS Bluetooth Keyboard: Pair with up to 3 devices on nearly any operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, Googlebook OS) via Bluetooth Low Energy or included Logi Bolt USB receiver (2)
- Turn the keyboard on.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the computer. On Windows, this is usually under Settings > Bluetooth & devices. On a Mac, it is under System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Put the keyboard into pairing mode. On Easy-Switch models, choose a channel number and hold that key until its LED blinks rapidly. Other models have a dedicated Connect button.
- On the computer, choose Add device (Windows) or Connect (macOS) and select your keyboard from the list.
- If a passcode prompt appears, type the code on the keyboard being paired and press Enter.
Logitech’s support page links to separate Bolt Bluetooth instructions for Windows and macOS if you need operating-system-specific detail.
If the keyboard doesn’t show up
- Confirm again that your model supports Bluetooth.
- Confirm the keyboard is actually in pairing mode, with the LED blinking rapidly rather than lit steadily.
- Check the model’s manual for its specific pairing sequence.
If the keyboard is receiver-only
A keyboard without Bluetooth cannot be used wirelessly without a receiver. Identify which receiver type it uses before buying a replacement.

- Check the logo on the underside of the keyboard. It will show Logi Bolt, Logitech Unifying, or neither.
- Logitech Support states: “Logi Bolt wireless products cannot be paired with a Logitech Unifying USB receiver and vice versa.” A receiver-pairing app cannot get around this, because it is a hardware compatibility requirement.
- Some models use other model-specific 2.4 GHz receivers. Check the manual or the model’s parts listing on Logitech’s site.
Don’t buy a generic receiver or assume Bolt and Unifying are interchangeable. Buy a replacement only after you’ve confirmed the exact model and its protocol.

Select Add Device and the appropriate receiver, then hold the keyboard’s connect button for three seconds until the light blinks rapidly. For Bolt keyboards, the article describes additional connection and verification steps. Logitech also notes that Logi Bolt app features have moved to Logi Options+, so check there if you can’t find the older app.
