If the box has an output-channel switch, set the TV to the same channel—usually 3 or 4 as marked on the box—and use the cable-box remote to change programs.
What you need and which ports to use
You need the cable service feed from the wall and a separate coaxial cable to connect the box to the TV. The exact port names vary, so follow the labels on your equipment:

- Wall to box: wall cable into the box’s CABLE IN, RF IN, or IN port.
- Box to TV: a second coaxial cable from the box’s RF OUT, TO TV, or OUT port to the TV’s Cable/Antenna or coaxial input.
Philips illustrates this two-cable path in its RF coaxial connection instructions and quick-start guide. For a threaded connector, tighten it finger-tight; do not force it.

- Turn off the TV and cable box.
- Connect the service cable from the wall to the box’s CABLE IN, RF IN, or IN port.
- Use a separate coaxial cable to connect the box’s RF OUT, TO TV, or OUT port to the TV’s coaxial input.
- Turn on the cable box and TV.
Set the TV to the box’s output
If the cable box has an output-channel switch, set it to the channel shown on that switch—commonly 3 or 4 in the cited Philips instructions—and tune the TV to the same channel. This channel 3/4 method applies only to boxes with that RF output configuration; follow your box’s labels and instructions rather than assuming every setup uses it.

Some TV menus also require you to select the TV/Antenna source or complete a channel-finding setup. On TCL Roku TVs, the manufacturer describes selecting the Antenna TV tile and following the channel-finding flow, which can include a Channels 3 & 4 selection. The menu path varies by TV model; see TCL’s Roku TV setup instructions.
Change programs with the cable-box remote
Once the TV is tuned to the box’s RF output, use the cable-box remote to change programs. The TV is receiving the box’s output; it is not selecting the cable service’s channels in this arrangement.

Picture and sound considerations
Philips recommends using a direct AV connection instead of RF when the cable box provides one, saying this produces better picture quality on the TV models covered by its support guidance. That is model-specific manufacturer advice, not a universal comparison for every box and television. Philips’ quick-start guide also notes that its RF-output connection does not supply stereo sound, so audio capabilities can be limited in some configurations.
