Set Vibration intensity (0–100), Speaker volume (0–100), the lightbar mode, and Keyboard player; then bind controls in the input-mapping screen and test them in a game menu. KytyPS5 scales the game’s requested rumble and trigger effects rather than creating a separate effect.
What the Controller section controls
KytyPS5 exposes the controller options in the configuration dialog’s Controller section. The controls are designed around a DualSense, but the input-mapping screen can also bind host keyboard, mouse, or gamepad inputs. Every player uses the same input mapping; the player assignment determines which physical device receives that mapping.

| Setting | Range or choices | Documented default | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vibration intensity | 0–100 | 100% | Scales the game-requested DualSense vibration over USB and Bluetooth. |
| Speaker volume | 0–100 | 50% | Sets the controller speaker level; 100% adds up to 6 dB of software gain, while 50% is the previous default. |
| DualSense lightbar | Custom color or Default | Default | A custom color fixes the LED color; Default lets the game control it. |
| Keyboard player | Select a player slot | Selectable | Assigns keyboard input to one player. Gamepads occupy the remaining slots in connection order. |
Vibration intensity
The horizontal Vibration intensity slider is a multiplier applied to the rumble values requested by the game. At 0%, KytyPS5 suppresses the requested rumble. At 100%, it passes the requested strength through at the full level supplied by the game. Intermediate values reduce the strength proportionally, which is useful when the motors are distracting but you still want feedback.
Changing the slider does not replace a game’s effect with a new preset. KytyPS5 keeps the current rumble request and reapplies it with the new scale, so move the control and test the same in-game action again.

Speaker volume
Speaker volume is independent of vibration. The UI documents 50% as the previous default. Moving the slider to 100% enables the upper limit of the software gain stage, adding up to 6 dB. Lower values reduce the controller speaker level without changing motor strength.
DualSense lightbar
Choose Custom when you want a fixed LED color and use the color picker and preview to select it. Choose Default when the game should control the lightbar. When the controller is connected over Bluetooth, the UI warns that a color update can take several seconds; a delayed color change is therefore not, by itself, evidence that the setting failed.
Keyboard player
Select the player slot that should receive keyboard input. Connected gamepads are assigned to the other slots in the order KytyPS5 detects them. This matters in local multiplayer: changing the keyboard assignment can move keyboard controls from one player to another without changing any button bindings.

- Connect the controller first. Plug the DualSense in by USB or pair it over Bluetooth before starting the game. Confirm that the operating system exposes it as a gamepad and, if possible, press a button in a game menu before changing advanced options.
- Open the configuration dialog. From the game or library configuration area, open the controller or input-settings dialog and select Controller.
- Set vibration. Drag Vibration intensity to the percentage you want. Use 0% when you want no rumble, 100% when you want the full strength requested by the game, or an intermediate value for gentler feedback.
- Set the speaker separately. Adjust Speaker volume to the level you can hear comfortably. This control affects the controller speaker, not the rumble motors.
- Choose lightbar behavior. Select Custom and pick a color for a fixed LED, or select Default to return control to the game. Allow several seconds for a Bluetooth color change to appear.
- Assign the keyboard. Set Keyboard player to the desired player slot. KytyPS5 assigns gamepads to the remaining slots in connection order.
- Map controls. Open the input-mapping screen and bind host keyboard, mouse, or gamepad inputs to the DualSense sticks, triggers, face buttons, shoulder buttons, d-pad, touch controls, and other available inputs. Select a binding and use Clear to remove that binding; Clear does not erase the entire controller configuration.
- Save and test in-game. Enter a game menu and check buttons, both sticks, triggers, rumble, speaker output, and the lightbar. If the game appears frozen during emulation, first verify that emulation is still running; a stopped or stalled game can look like a controller failure.
How input mapping and player assignment interact
KytyPS5 applies one mapping definition to every player. The mapping describes which host inputs correspond to DualSense controls; the Keyboard player option and gamepad connection order decide which player uses that mapping at runtime.
- If the keyboard is controlling the wrong character, change Keyboard player rather than rebinding every button.
- If two or more gamepads are connected, reconnecting them can change their detection order and therefore their player slots.
- Use Clear on an individual binding when a key or button is duplicated. It removes only the selected assignment.
- After changing a binding, test it in a menu before loading a demanding scene so you can distinguish an input problem from a game-state problem.
How KytyPS5 applies rumble, haptics, and triggers
The controller implementation identifies SDL PS5 gamepads and retains the rumble values requested by the game. When you change Vibration intensity, KytyPS5 reapplies that cached request using the new scale. This is why lowering the slider affects an effect that is already active instead of waiting for a completely new effect.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
When the haptics backend is available, the implementation sends DualSense haptic vibration. Trigger-effect strengths are scaled through the same setting family, so the vibration slider also influences supported adaptive-trigger effects. A generic gamepad can still provide ordinary rumble, but it does not automatically provide DualSense trigger effects.
Speaker output follows a separate scale based on a volume table and the global speaker value. The upper half of the slider provides the additional software gain, reaching up to 6 dB at 100%; changing vibration does not alter that speaker scale.

USB or Bluetooth: which connection should you use?
Both connection paths are covered by the vibration control, but they differ operationally. Use the following comparison when deciding how to connect a DualSense.
| Consideration | USB | Bluetooth |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Plug the controller in before launching the game and let the operating system expose it as a gamepad. | Pair the controller before launching the game and confirm that the operating system exposes it as a gamepad. |
| Vibration setting | The 0–100 intensity scale applies to the game’s requested rumble. | The same 0–100 intensity scale applies to the game’s requested rumble. |
| Lightbar updates | No Bluetooth delay is involved. | The UI warns that a color update may take several seconds. |
| Hotplug on Linux | Detection still depends on the build’s SDL and udev support. | Detection and reconnect behavior also depend on the build’s SDL and udev support. |
USB is the simplest diagnostic path because it removes wireless pairing and radio issues from the equation. Once the controller works over USB, you can switch to Bluetooth and retest the same game and settings.
Troubleshooting controller detection and feedback
No controller appears
- Exit the game, connect or pair the DualSense, and start KytyPS5 again. The setup guidance recommends connecting before launch.
- Check the operating system’s game-controller list. If the device is absent there, KytyPS5 cannot map it; resolve the host connection first.
- Open the Controller section and confirm that a gamepad is assigned to a player slot. If a keyboard is assigned to that slot, change Keyboard player or disconnect the keyboard temporarily while testing.
- Use a menu screen to verify a button or stick response before judging rumble or trigger effects.
Linux hotplug or audio support is missing
The KytyPS5 project warns that a build made without SDL audio or udev development packages can lack sound and gamepad hotplug support. Install the development packages required by your Linux distribution and rebuild, or use a build compiled with those features. Reconnect the controller after replacing the build so the operating system and emulator enumerate it again.

Rumble is too strong or too weak
Move Vibration intensity and repeat the same in-game action. Remember that the slider scales the game’s requested motor values; it cannot make a game request an effect that the game never sends. A title with little or no rumble request will remain quiet even at 100%.

Trigger effects do not respond
Adaptive-trigger effects require a DualSense-class device and a connection path supported by KytyPS5’s haptics backend. A generic XInput or other gamepad may respond to ordinary rumble while offering no trigger-effect channel. Test with a DualSense, verify that the controller is recognized as an SDL PS5 gamepad, and try USB if Bluetooth behavior is uncertain.
Keyboard controls affect the wrong player
Change Keyboard player in the Controller section. KytyPS5 gives the keyboard the selected slot and fills the remaining player slots with gamepads in connection order. Rebinding individual buttons will not correct a player-slot assignment.
Bluetooth lightbar color appears late
Wait several seconds after choosing a custom color. The Controller UI specifically cautions that Bluetooth lightbar updates can be delayed. If the color never changes, switch temporarily to Default, test the controller over USB, and then try the custom color again.
The game is frozen and inputs seem dead
Check whether emulation is still progressing before changing mappings or reconnecting hardware. A frozen game can stop reading input and stop requesting rumble, creating the same symptoms as a disconnected controller. Once the game is running again, test a menu input and then revisit the Controller settings.

Practical setup choices
For quiet play
Lower vibration intensity and speaker volume independently. This keeps menu sounds or spoken feedback audible at a comfortable level while reducing motor noise. Because the two controls are separate, changing one does not force a change in the other.
For maximum feedback
Leave vibration intensity at 100% and raise speaker volume only as far as your environment allows. This preserves the full strength requested by the game and uses the available speaker gain without assuming that every title supports adaptive triggers.
For troubleshooting
Start with a wired DualSense, the default lightbar mode, the default player assignment, and a simple menu. Confirm buttons and sticks first, then test rumble, speaker output, and trigger effects one at a time. After the wired path works, switch to Bluetooth and repeat the checks.
Pre-game checklist
- DualSense connected by USB or paired over Bluetooth before the game starts.
- Operating system lists the controller as a gamepad.
- Controller section opened from the game or library configuration area.
- Vibration intensity chosen for the desired strength.
- Speaker volume set independently from vibration.
- Lightbar set to Custom or Default intentionally.
- Keyboard player assigned to the intended slot.
- Each required control bound; unwanted bindings removed with Clear.
- Buttons, sticks, rumble, speaker, and triggers tested in a game menu.
Bottom line
KytyPS5’s Controller section gives you direct control over DualSense feedback and player assignment without changing a game’s own effect requests. Connect the controller before launch, set the two independent volume controls, choose the lightbar mode, assign the keyboard player, and map only the controls you need. If detection fails, verify the operating system and Linux build dependencies first; if feedback fails, check the device type and haptics backend before replacing bindings.
