To capture a page behind a login, a screenshot API needs the authentication method that the target site accepts—such as a token header, session cookie, or scripted login. Cookie-banner handling is a separate setting; it does not sign you in. Which approach works depends on the site, your account permissions, and its automation defenses.
What to compare before choosing an API
Evaluate the workflow against the page you actually need to capture. Provider documentation describes available features, but it does not establish that any API will succeed on every site. The reviewed material also does not provide neutral head-to-head tests, universal success rates, or comparable current prices and quotas.
- Authentication: Does the API accept the header or cookies your site uses, or can it run a login flow?
- Login preparation: Must your own code sign in first and obtain a session cookie?
- Cookie-banner controls: Can you independently handle privacy notices, and have you verified the actual image?
- Rendering: Does the endpoint capture the viewport or a full page, and does it wait for the content you need?
- Failure behavior: Can you recognize login screens, CAPTCHAs, access-denied pages, blank output, or missing elements?
- Credential handling: What data must you send, and how will you protect keys, cookies, and tokens?
- Freshness and cost: Check caching controls, current quotas, and current pricing directly with the provider.
Use the API only for pages you are authorized to access, and confirm that the target website permits the intended automation.

Choose the authentication method the site actually uses
Token or custom header
If the site accepts an API token or another authorization header for the page request, pass only the required header using the screenshot provider’s documented parameter format. Interactive login
Some providers document the ability to run JavaScript login steps; ApiFlash’s FAQ describes JavaScript login. This approach depends on the target’s login form, scripts, and automation defenses, so test it with an account you are allowed to use rather than assuming a generic login script will work. Site-controlled bypass
A firewall or secret bypass is appropriate only when you own or administer the site and have intentionally configured that mechanism. Handle the cookie banner separately
Authentication gets the capture browser into the account; banner handling changes what appears in the resulting image. Configure and evaluate these independently. After capture, inspect the image for an unresolved banner, an unintended dismissal, a login screen, or missing page content. Do not infer success merely because the API returned an image.
A practical evaluation workflow
- Confirm access and permission. Make sure the account can view the page and the intended automation is permitted.
- Identify the login mechanism. Determine whether the page accepts a request header, a browser session cookie, or requires interaction with a login form. Use a site-controlled bypass only on a site you administer.
- Send the minimum authentication data. Follow the provider’s documented syntax. For cookies, check domain and path requirements; for headers, test whether they affect external assets. Avoid sharing credentials in source control or logs.
- Set banner behavior separately. Enable the provider’s relevant banner option or cleanup feature, then test the target’s actual page rather than assuming the setting guarantees removal.
- Inspect the returned image. Look for a login screen, consent notice, CAPTCHA, access denial, missing font, blank content, or incomplete page.
- Repeat with controlled changes. If it fails, change one variable at a time—authentication method, banner setting, wait behavior, or provider—so the cause is easier to identify.

Troubleshoot failed or incomplete captures
- You see the login page: The request likely did not include valid authentication, the cookie may be expired or scoped incorrectly, or the page requires an interactive login. Recheck the target’s auth method and the provider’s accepted format.
- A banner remains: Banner handling is independent of login. Confirm the relevant option is enabled and inspect the output; feature documentation is not a guarantee for every site.
