Screenshot.rocks does not document a built-in visual-diff feature. It is a browser-based editor for placing screenshots in browser or mobile frames, styling them, and exporting images. To find visual changes, capture the same page or interface twice under matching conditions, then compare the exported image files in a separate image-comparison tool.
What Screenshot.rocks can—and cannot—compare
Screenshot.rocks is designed to create screenshot mockups: you can place an image in a browser or phone frame, choose a background, add markup, and export the result. Its official product and extension descriptions do not document a feature that compares two captures or highlights changed pixels. Treat mockup creation and visual comparison as separate steps.
That distinction also affects what you compare. If you want to check whether a website or UI changed, capture the underlying page in the same state on both occasions. If you want to compare the presentation itself—for example, two mockups with different framing or annotations—export both from Screenshot.rocks and compare those files instead.
Capture comparable screenshots
Pixel-level comparisons are useful only when the captures are made under consistent conditions. Keep the viewport and page state the same; also try to control any other conditions that may affect what appears, such as scroll position or dynamic content. Android Developers’ screenshot-testing guidance likewise recommends matching conditions for pixel-perfect comparison and cautions that a failed image comparison does not by itself prove there is a defect.

Capture the visible browser area with the extension
- Open the page and put it in the state you want to compare. Match the viewport and relevant page state for both captures.
- Use the Screenshot.rocks browser extension to capture the active tab. The extension guide describes this as capturing the visible part of the tab at the screen’s full resolution—not the entire page—and opening it in an editor tab.
- If you need a full-page image, use your browser’s built-in capture option, then drop the resulting file into the Screenshot.rocks editor. The extension guide says the extension itself does not capture full pages.
- If you are comparing styled mockups, apply the same frame, background, and other presentation choices to each image, then export both files.
The extension guide lists Chrome, Firefox, and Edge support and says there is no Safari extension. Its permission and privacy details specifically describe Chrome and Edge: they request only activeTab, and the capture is sent to Screenshot.rocks to open in the editor. Browser support can change, so check the current extension guide before relying on a specific browser.
Compare the exported files with an image-diff tool
For a direct manual comparison, Screenshotbot’s open-source PixelDiff project documents comparing two image files as well as image sets across Git branches. It provides previous, updated, and difference views, plus zoom, pan, and pixel-color inspection. You can provide image-file paths without using a Git repository, so it can fit a workflow that starts with captures or Screenshot.rocks exports.

- Open the two exported image files in PixelDiff, or provide the two image paths using the application’s documented workflow.
- Review the previous and updated images alongside the difference view. Zoom into changed regions and use pixel inspection where it helps clarify what moved or changed.
- Decide whether the visible difference is expected. A diff highlights image changes; it does not determine whether a change is a bug. Android’s screenshot-testing guidance makes the same important distinction: a failed screenshot comparison does not necessarily mean there is an error.
PixelDiff is an adjacent comparison tool, not a Screenshot.rocks feature. The cited project documents a GUI application and its comparison features; the available information does not establish commercial program availability.
When manual comparison is not enough
Manually opening two images and inspecting a diff is appropriate for a one-off review. It is not the same as automated visual-regression testing, where a repeatable capture process checks new screenshots against approved reference images. Android Developers’ screenshot-testing guidance describes that reference-image approach. If you need recurring checks, consistency in how images are produced and how reference updates are reviewed matters as much as the diff view itself.

- One-time review: capture and export both versions, then inspect them in PixelDiff.
- Repeatable regression checks: use a screenshot-test workflow with controlled capture conditions and reviewed reference images; do not treat a visual mismatch as an automatic verdict that the UI is broken.
Privacy considerations
Screenshot.rocks says its images are processed in the browser and are not stored on its servers. Its extension guide separately says an extension capture is sent to Screenshot.rocks to open in the editor and is not stored. Those are the vendor’s statements, not an independent privacy audit. Consider your organization’s data rules before placing sensitive screen contents in any service or workflow.

If your goal is to capture a page for a later comparison, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot from one GET request. For matched comparisons, keep the URL and capture settings consistent between runs; you still need a separate diff tool to inspect changes. Troubleshooting common comparison problems
The extension image stops before the bottom of the page
That is expected: the guide describes visible-area capture, not full-page capture. Use your browser’s built-in full-page capture and import the saved file into the Screenshot.rocks editor.
The diff shows many changes that do not look like UI edits
First check whether the two captures used the same viewport and page state. Dynamic or otherwise changing page content can also affect the image, so compare the relevant area and decide whether each change is intentional rather than assuming every highlighted pixel is a defect.
I need to compare two mockup exports, not the underlying pages
Export both mockups using matching presentation choices, then compare the two image files in PixelDiff. That isolates changes in the exported presentation; it does not turn Screenshot.rocks into a visual-diff engine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PixelDiff a replacement for visual-regression testing?
No. It documents manual comparison of image files and image sets, including sets across Git branches. Automated screenshot tests add a repeatable capture and reference-image workflow.
