It depends on how you are streaming. A prerecorded video scheduled through OneStream Live is documented to start automatically at its scheduled time, so the computer used to set it up should not need to remain on after the video is uploaded and scheduled. That conclusion follows from OneStream Live’s documented workflow; its help page does not explicitly promise that the setup computer can be shut down. If you are sending a live feed from an encoder such as OBS running on your computer, that computer and encoder need to stay on while they supply the feed.
Which OneStream Live workflow are you using?
“Streaming” can mean playing a prerecorded video as a scheduled broadcast or sending a live feed from an encoder. The computer requirement differs because the source of the video differs.

| Workflow | What supplies the video? | Can the setup computer be off? |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled prerecorded stream | A selected or uploaded recording | After setup, the documented automatic-scheduling workflow indicates that it should not need to stay on. This is an inference, not an explicit shutdown promise. |
| External encoder stream | An encoder, such as OBS, sending a live feed | No, if the encoder is running on that computer. The machine must remain on to keep supplying the feed. |
| Browser-based studio session | A live session in the browser | The available documentation describes this as a live-session option; it does not establish that a session continues after the computer or browser is turned off. |
OneStream Live describes these as distinct ways to go live; its overview was last updated August 24, 2026. See the help-center overview of the ways to go live.

OneStream Live says prerecorded content can go live automatically at its scheduled time. The help article was last updated September 7, 2026. The workflow is cloud-scheduled, so the computer used to configure it should not need to remain running once the upload and scheduling are complete; that last point is an inference from the described process, not wording of an explicit shutdown guarantee.

For an encoder-based live feed, keep the source machine running
An external encoder sends a live feed to OneStream Live. OneStream Live’s instructions have you configure a destination, copy the server URL and stream key, then connect those details in the encoder. If that encoder is running on the computer you turn off, the live source stops sending. This is a consequence of the encoder workflow rather than a separately stated OneStream shutdown rule.

- If the video comes from a camera, desktop capture, or another live input through an encoder on your computer, leave that computer and encoder running for the duration of the feed.
- If your goal is to play a recording while the computer is off, use the prerecorded scheduling workflow instead of treating a local encoder feed as an uploaded recording.
- Keep the stream key private. It is the connection credential used to send the feed to the destination.
OneStream Live’s Stream Players instructions describe configuring the destination and connecting the stream key and server URL to an encoder.
What the 24/7 prerecorded option means
OneStream Live documents a separate 24/7 prerecorded-stream feature for YouTube. Its help article, last updated September 3, 2026, says the feature requires an Enterprise plan and is limited to 30 days in duration. Those limits apply to this specific 24/7 feature, not necessarily to ordinary scheduled prerecorded broadcasts. Confirm availability and current plan terms with OneStream Live before relying on them.
