There is no dependable nationwide private-hospital price range or blanket insurance rule for robotic surgery in India. To estimate what you may pay, compare an itemized estimate for your exact procedure with the limits and conditions in your active policy—or, if you are eligible, the current public-scheme package. A policy that covers robotic surgery may still cap what it pays. Ask the insurer or TPA for a written, case-specific pre-authorisation decision before relying on an approval.
Does my policy cover robotic surgery?
Only the wording that applies to your policy and treatment date can answer that. IRDAI advises policyholders to check restrictions such as sub-limits, co-payments and hospital eligibility. Read your policy schedule, full wording and any endorsements together; a general statement that robotic surgery is covered does not establish that every related charge will be paid. See IRDAI’s health-insurance guidance.

Check whether the proposed procedure is covered for your diagnosis, whether any waiting period or exclusion applies, and whether the hospital is eligible under your policy. Also look for limits on the sum insured, disease or procedure, room and ICU, and robotic surgery. Check for a deductible, co-payment, and any reasonable-and-customary or medical-necessity conditions. The remaining sum insured matters too: it may already have been reduced by earlier claims.
One policy example—not a market-wide rule
A United India Insurance Company individual policy wording identified as UIN UIIHLIP21114V032021 specifies robotic-surgery limits per policy period of up to 75% of the sum insured for central nervous system diseases or malignancies, and up to 50% for other diseases. Those figures illustrate why the exact wording matters; they are not a general Indian insurance rule or confirmation of the latest terms. Review the United India policy wording and confirm which version applies to your policy.

Do not assume a percentage limit is calculated only on the hospital’s robotic-charge line unless the policy says so. Ask the insurer or TPA to explain in writing how the limit applies to your proposed bill. IRDAI describes health insurance as a contract providing specified cover, and its health-insurance FAQ notes that cover for an existing or prior illness depends on underwriting and product design.
How do I compare a hospital estimate with my cover?
Ask the hospital for a current written estimate for the named procedure, diagnosis, proposed technique, surgeon, hospital and room category. It should show what is included, what is excluded, and the expected length of stay. Compare that estimate with written confirmation of your policy terms using the worksheet below.

| Hospital estimate | Policy or scheme confirmation |
|---|---|
| Diagnosis, exact procedure and whether it is robotic-assisted | Whether the procedure is covered for that diagnosis under the active wording |
| Hospital, surgeon, planned date and room category | Network status and relevant room or ICU limits |
| Total estimate, with robotic charges shown separately | Robotic-surgery sub-limit and whether it applies per procedure or per policy period |
| Separate surgeon, anaesthesia, hospital, operating-theatre, implant, consumable, diagnostic and medicine charges | Remaining sum insured, any disease or procedure cap, and co-payment or deductible |
| Expected stay and estimated pre- and post-hospital care; identify items excluded from the estimate | Waiting periods, exclusions, and any reasonable-and-customary or medical-necessity conditions |
| Estimate’s validity date | Written pre-authorisation, approved amount, deductions or limits, and your expected share |
This comparison may reveal a gap, but do not treat an estimate or a policy limit as the final amount payable. The calculation depends on how the insurer applies the terms to the submitted bill. Ask for the insurer or TPA’s written explanation of the approved amount and each deduction, then check it against the hospital’s itemized estimate.
What should I ask before approving the estimate?
Request pre-authorisation for your specific diagnosis, procedure, hospital and planned date. Ask the hospital’s insurance desk what documents it will submit, and ask the insurer or TPA to state the decision and patient share in writing. A generic approval does not establish that the entire final bill will be settled.

- Is this exact procedure covered for my diagnosis under the wording that applies on the planned treatment date?
- What amount is approved, and which line items are capped, excluded or subject to deductions?
- How does the robotic-surgery limit apply to this estimate? Is it a per-procedure or per-policy-period limit?
- What amount is expected to remain payable by me, including any co-payment, deductible or amount above a limit?
- Are any documents, medical-necessity reviews or further approvals still required?
- How long is the pre-authorisation decision valid, and what happens if the procedure plan or final estimate changes?
Confirm the final settlement terms with both the insurer or TPA and the hospital. Keep the estimate, policy documents, pre-authorisation response and any revised decision together so you can compare the eventual bill with what was approved.

Only if you are eligible for that scheme and the exact procedure is covered at a participating hospital. Public-scheme package rates are bundled payments for defined cases, not a benchmark for what a private hospital should charge or what a private insurer will reimburse.

Maharashtra MJPJAY
The official MJPJAY page describes package inclusions and cashless treatment for covered cases. It does not by itself establish that a particular robotic operation is included. Verify your eligibility, the current package for the exact procedure and the selected hospital’s participation through the MJPJAY scheme information.
Best Value
Is there a standard robotic-surgery price in India?
The cited official sources do not establish a reliable nationwide private-hospital price range, a universal insurer rule for robotic surgery, or an approval outcome for an individual patient. Costs depend on the procedure, hospital and bill details, while payment depends on the applicable policy or scheme terms. Obtain a local itemized estimate and a written case-specific coverage response rather than relying on a general online figure.
