To compare iPhones, start with the models sold in your country, then weigh display and size, camera features, battery estimates, storage, charging compatibility, and the full purchase cost against how you actually use a phone. Apple’s comparison tool makes specifications easy to line up, but the highest-tier model is not automatically the best value for you.
Which iPhone should you compare?
Start with the models currently available where you live. Apple’s U.S. iPhone page lists iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, and iPhone 16, but lineups and names can differ by country. Check Apple’s local store or carrier listings before deciding that a particular model is an option.

Use Apple’s iPhone comparison tool to select the specific models you are considering. It includes models beyond the current purchase lineup, so compare only the ones you can actually buy at an acceptable price. A previous-generation phone may be worth considering if it is locally available and its features meet your needs.

1. Narrow the choice by size and display
Compare the listed screen diagonal and display type, then think about how you hold and carry a phone. A larger display can be more comfortable for reading or watching video; a smaller phone may suit one-handed use or smaller pockets. Screen measurements alone do not tell you how a phone feels in your hand, so handle the exact models if possible.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
2. Match the camera system to your photography
Compare the cameras and supported features for the models on your shortlist. Consider whether you mainly take everyday photos, need zoom, or record video, and look at the specific camera capabilities Apple lists for each model. Megapixel count by itself does not establish which phone takes better pictures; no independent comparative camera tests are represented here.
3. Read battery figures as estimates, not guarantees
Apple lists battery playback estimates in its comparison tool. Compare the same playback measure across models, but treat each figure as a manufacturer estimate under stated test conditions—not a prediction of your daily runtime. Screen brightness, network conditions, apps, and other usage patterns affect how long a phone lasts between charges.

4. Choose enough storage for your ownership period
Check the capacity options for each exact model and compare them with your photo and video library, app use, and expected time before upgrading. Capacity choices and prices can differ between models and markets. Confirm both at purchase rather than assuming every model starts at the same storage tier or that the lowest-capacity option will suit you long term.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems5. Check the connector before reusing accessories
Apple’s comparison page distinguishes models that charge via USB-C from older models that use a USB-C-to-Lightning cable. Check the connector on the exact phone you plan to buy and compare it with the cables and adapters you already own. A change in connector can add cost or inconvenience if your existing accessories no longer fit.

6. Compare the complete cost, not the monthly headline
Start with the current unlocked price, then compare it with any carrier financing or trade-in offer. Apple presents carrier deals and trade-in as buying routes, but eligibility, plan requirements, payment terms, and promotional credits depend on the offer and region. Work out the total amount you would pay over the financing term, including any required plan, and count trade-in value only if your device qualifies and you are comfortable with the conditions. Offers change, so verify terms at checkout.
Should you get the regular or Pro iPhone?
Do not decide by tier name alone. Compare the exact regular and Pro models on the features that matter to you—especially camera configuration, display, storage options, and price. If a Pro model’s particular camera or display features are useful in your day-to-day use, its extra cost may make sense. If not, a less expensive model that meets your needs may be the better value. The comparison tool can show specification differences, but your priorities determine whether those differences are worth paying for.

What specifications do not tell you
Specifications help identify meaningful differences, but they cannot settle every buying question. Display diagonal does not establish handling comfort, and battery playback figures do not reproduce your routine. Apple also cautions that water resistance can diminish over time; liquid damage is not covered by warranty. Treat a water-resistance rating as a specification with limits, not as a promise that a phone cannot be damaged by liquid.
