For a current buying decision, compare the Galaxy S26 Ultra with the S25 Ultra—but focus on the photos and video you actually make, not just megapixel counts. Samsung says the S26 Ultra’s wider apertures improve low-light capture; the S25 Ultra already offers dedicated ultrawide, 3x and 5x cameras. The clearest documented S24-to-S25 hardware change is the ultrawide camera’s move from 12 MP to 50 MP. None of those specifications alone proves which phone will look better in every scene.
Start with the camera views you use
A useful comparison begins with framing. Main cameras handle most everyday shots; ultrawide cameras fit more into a frame; telephoto cameras provide narrower views for portraits and distant subjects. Dedicated lenses can be more useful than a large headline megapixel figure if they match what you photograph.

Galaxy S25 Ultra’s rear-camera coverage
| Camera | Published specification | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Ultrawide | 50 MP, f/1.9 | Useful for landscapes, architecture, interiors and group shots. Resolution is only one part of detail and image quality. |
| Wide (main) | 200 MP, f/1.7 | The everyday view; compare results in the lighting and framing you typically use. |
| Telephoto | 10 MP, 3x optical, f/2.4 | A dedicated closer view for portraits and subjects that are not right beside you. |
| Telephoto | 50 MP, 5x optical, f/3.4 | More reach for distant subjects than the 3x camera; check samples at the zoom levels you actually use. |
| Front camera | 12 MP | Assess selfie framing and video-call quality separately from the rear cameras. |

What changed from the S24 Ultra to the S25 Ultra?
The ultrawide camera gained resolution
Samsung says the S25 Ultra’s ultrawide sensor is 50 MP, up from 12 MP on the S24 Ultra. That is a substantial change on the specification sheet, especially for people who often shoot wide scenes. It does not mean a photo will have four times the perceived detail: lens performance, processing, light, focus and the final crop or display all affect what you see. Samsung describes the change in its S25 series announcement.

The available comparison evidence establishes this ultrawide change, not a complete verified S24-versus-S26 camera specification table or controlled side-by-side results across all three generations. Avoid treating a single resolution change as a verdict on every camera.
How to judge the S26 Ultra’s low-light claim
Separate the specification from the result
Samsung’s US comparison says the S26 Ultra has wider apertures on its wide and telephoto cameras, intended to produce brighter, less noisy photos and video in low light. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee that every night scene or indoor shot will improve. Exposure, subject movement, stabilization and image processing also influence the result. Read Samsung’s S26 Ultra comparison for its published description.

Put independent commentary in perspective
TechRadar’s comparison characterizes the low-light and longer-zoom improvement as modest. That is an editorial assessment, not a standardized benchmark for every scene or a substitute for comparing sample photos made in similar conditions. If low-light quality is a deciding factor, look for matched examples of the subjects you shoot—especially moving people, dim interiors or night scenes—rather than relying on a single headline claim.
Check what “100x zoom” means for your photos
Samsung describes the S26 Ultra as offering up to 100x digital zoom, including 10x optical-quality zoom with Super Resolution, and warns that image quality may deteriorate beyond 10x. “Optical-quality” is not the same as a dedicated optical lens at every magnification, and a maximum zoom number does not tell you how useful a distant subject will look.

If you regularly photograph performances, wildlife or sports from far away, inspect sample images at the actual zoom level you use. Check fine detail, edges and processing artifacts, and consider whether 3x or 5x framing already covers most of your needs. Samsung’s S26 Ultra comparison includes the zoom qualification.
Compare video and creative tools if you edit footage
For creators, recording and editing workflow may matter more than still-photo resolution. Samsung’s S25 Ultra materials list 10-bit HDR recording, Galaxy Log and Expert RAW Virtual Aperture. Samsung describes 10-bit HDR as offering four times richer color expression than 8-bit; treat that as the company’s feature description, not an independent measurement of perceived image quality. The features are documented in Samsung’s S25 series announcement and S25 Ultra specifications.

- Network bands in regions may be different depending on the mobile operator and your location; Available storage is less due to phone software updates and apps usage
Before choosing based on a particular recording mode, verify that it is available on the exact model, in your region and software version, and that your editing apps support the workflow. The cited S25 material does not establish complete feature parity with the S26 Ultra.
Use your own priorities to make the buying decision
- Indoor and night photos or video: Give the S26 Ultra’s aperture claim attention, but seek comparable samples in the lighting and subject conditions that matter to you.
- Landscapes, interiors and group photos: The S25 Ultra’s 50 MP ultrawide is a notable on-paper change from the S24 Ultra’s 12 MP ultrawide. Judge actual detail and edge quality rather than assuming megapixels guarantee the outcome.
- Portraits and everyday reach: Consider whether dedicated 3x and 5x views match your usual distance and framing. Samsung lists both optical telephoto cameras on the S25 Ultra.
- Very distant subjects: Treat maximum digital zoom as an upper limit, not a promise of clean results. Compare examples at your normal zoom level.
- Video editing or grading: Check the recording modes and end-to-end workflow you need, rather than selecting by still-photo resolution alone.
- Selfies and video calls: Compare front-camera framing and processing directly; Samsung says the S26 Ultra’s AI ISP extends to the front camera and lists 12 MP selfie capture on its US comparison page.
- Upgrade value: No current prices or stock comparisons are established here. Check live listings for your region and weigh the actual price difference against the specific camera improvement you expect to use.
Samsung’s specifications establish what each company page says the hardware and features are; they do not establish that every buyer will see a meaningful improvement. A decision grounded in your focal lengths, lighting, zoom habits, video workflow and local price is more useful than choosing by model year alone.
