The cheapest advertised GPU is rarely the cheapest completed job. Compare the same accelerator, GPU count, memory, host resources, interconnect, region and billing model across providers, then add storage, data transfer, queue time, idle capacity and engineering work. CoreWeave publishes unusually direct instance pricing; AWS, Azure and Google Cloud emphasize tightly integrated eight-GPU systems and large-scale networking. The right choice depends on your workload, capacity window and software stack—not one hourly number.
What a fair AI-GPU comparison includes
A GPU instance is a system, not just a chip. An H100 in an eight-GPU node with NVLink, high-bandwidth host memory and a low-latency fabric can deliver a very different result from an H100 attached to a smaller host or connected through a slower network. Before comparing prices, write down the complete configuration your job needs.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Accelerator: Match H100 with H100, H200 with H200 and B200 with B200. Record the exact generation and memory type.
- GPU count and topology: Note whether GPUs share NVLink or NVSwitch and how multiple nodes are connected. A nominally identical GPU can scale differently in another topology.
- GPU memory: Include total memory and memory per GPU. Model size, sequence length, batch size and optimizer states can make capacity more important than peak compute.
- Host resources: Record vCPUs, system RAM, local SSD or NVMe capacity and storage throughput. Data-loader and checkpoint performance often depend on these resources.
- Network fabric: Capture bandwidth, RDMA support, latency and the collective-communication libraries available to your framework.
- Location and commercial terms: Region, availability zone, on-demand, reserved or committed use, and spot or preemptible behavior all affect the result.
Only after these fields match should you compare the hourly rate. A lower rate can be erased by waiting for capacity, moving data between regions, paying for idle storage or spending more engineering time adapting the platform.

CoreWeave: transparent GPU pricing, capacity-sensitive execution
What the pricing page gives you
CoreWeave’s official pricing page lists on-demand and spot GPU instances together with GPU count, VRAM, vCPUs, system RAM, local storage and hourly prices. Its catalog includes NVIDIA GB200 NVL72, HGX H200, L40/L40S and A100 configurations. That makes it practical to build a first-pass cost sheet without translating a generic VM price into GPU economics.
The same page shows how quickly a number becomes stale: in its North America table, an eight-GPU HGX H200 configuration is listed at $50.44 per hour on demand, while an eight-GPU L40S configuration is listed at $18.00 per hour. Those are regional, date-sensitive listings, not universal prices. Spot rates, availability and other regions can differ, so record the region, timestamp and billing type with every quote.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When CoreWeave is a strong candidate
- You need a GPU-centered catalog with several generations and want visible on-demand and spot options.
- Your team already operates Kubernetes-style workloads and prefers a platform organized around GPU scheduling.
- You can place data near the selected region and tolerate the operational work of validating capacity and interruption behavior.
Checks to perform before choosing it
- Confirm that the exact H200, H100, L40S or other SKU is available for your region and requested quantity.
- Read the instance details for host CPU, RAM, local storage and network topology rather than comparing GPU names alone.
- For spot jobs, design checkpointing and restart logic before launch; a nominally low rate is not a saving if interruptions extend time to completion.
AWS P5, P5e and P5en: large-scale H100 and H200 systems
P5 for H100 training
AWS documents P5 instances with up to eight NVIDIA H100 GPUs and up to 640 GB of HBM3 per instance. The family targets deep learning, generative AI and HPC workloads. AWS also documents up to 3,200 Gbps Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) networking and 900 GB/s NVSwitch peer-to-peer bandwidth, features aimed at keeping distributed collectives moving between GPUs and nodes.
P5e and P5en for H200 memory capacity
P5e and P5en provide up to eight H200 GPUs with up to 1,128 GB of HBM3e per instance. The additional memory can change whether a model fits on one node, whether you need tensor or pipeline parallelism, and how much activation or optimizer-state offloading is required. Treat that as a capacity and productivity advantage only if your software stack can use the node efficiently.
Scaling beyond one node
AWS describes EC2 UltraClusters scaling to as many as 20,000 H100 or H200 GPUs. That figure describes a documented architectural ceiling, not a promise that any account can obtain that quantity immediately. Quotas, regional capacity, reservations, placement and job scheduling still determine what you can launch.
Storage and ecosystem fit
FSx for Lustre is documented as a supported option for high-throughput shared storage, while EFA supplies the network path used by distributed training libraries. AWS is often attractive when your data, identity controls, observability and deployment tooling already live in EC2 and related services. Price comparison still requires the specific region, purchase option and storage design; the cited P5 documentation does not establish a universal hourly rate.

Azure ND H100 v5: an eight-GPU InfiniBand design
Microsoft describes ND H100 v5 as a flagship Azure GPU family for high-end deep-learning training, tightly coupled generative-AI workloads and HPC. Each documented VM has eight NVIDIA H100 80 GB GPUs, 96 vCPUs and 1,900 GiB of system memory. Inside the VM, NVLink 4.0 connects the GPUs; scale-out networking reaches 3.2 Tbps through InfiniBand.
That combination is relevant when a training job spends substantial time in all-reduce and other collective operations. Azure says the family can scale to thousands of GPUs and supports NCCL-based tools, but your result will depend on the chosen region, VM quota, topology and software image. Measure with your model rather than inferring performance from the 3.2 Tbps figure.
When Azure fits best
- Your organization already uses Microsoft identity, networking, policy and monitoring controls.
- You need an eight-H100 node with a large 1,900 GiB host-memory pool for data preparation, caching or model pipelines.
- Your distributed-training stack is built around NCCL and you can secure the required InfiniBand capacity.
Azure pricing is not a single global number. Obtain a quote for the exact ND H100 v5 region, commitment term, storage and data path you will use, then compare its completed-job cost with equivalent eight-GPU nodes elsewhere.
Google Cloud A3 and A4: H100, H200 and B200 choices
A3 Mega and A3 Ultra
Google Cloud documents accelerator-optimized A3 machines with NVIDIA H100 or H200 GPUs. An A3 Mega machine has eight H100 GPUs and 640 GB of HBM3; an A3 Ultra machine has eight H200 GPUs and 1,128 GB of HBM3e. These aggregate-memory figures line up with the corresponding AWS configurations, but matching memory does not prove matching throughput or scaling.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA4 and newer systems
A4 machines use NVIDIA B200 GPUs. The documented eight-B200 A4 configuration has 1,440 GB of HBM3e, giving it a larger aggregate memory pool than the A3 H100 or H200 examples. Google also documents newer A4X systems oriented around GB200 and GB300 platforms. A workload that requires a specific CUDA, framework or kernel version should be validated on the exact accelerator before migration.
Reservations and regional supply
Google’s documentation notes reservation requirements for some GPU families and region-specific availability. Check both before designing a schedule around A3 or A4. A machine type shown in documentation may not be obtainable in the region where your dataset resides, or may require a reservation rather than an immediate on-demand launch.
Platform fit
Compute Engine supplies the VM foundation, while GKE and AI Hypercomputer provide orchestration paths for teams running clusters or repeatable training pipelines. Include cluster management and persistent-storage costs in the same job ledger as the GPU hours.

How to calculate the cost of a completed job
Use a completed-job model instead of a GPU-only rate:
Recommended Free Tools
total cost = accelerator time + host and storage time + data transfer + orchestration + checkpointing + idle capacity + engineering labor
1. Start with accelerator time
Multiply the full node rate by wall-clock runtime, not just the period when GPU utilization looks high. If you ran the CoreWeave North America HGX H200 example at $50.44 per hour continuously for 24 hours, the GPU-instance portion would be $1,210.56. For 168 hours, it would be $8,473.92. Those calculations exclude storage, network transfer, orchestration, taxes and any discount or interruption; they are a baseline, not a quote.
2. Separate purchase models
- On-demand: flexible start and stop, usually the reference price for a short experiment.
- Reserved or committed: potentially lower effective rates in exchange for a term or capacity commitment. Compare the utilization you can actually guarantee.
- Spot or preemptible: lower and variable pricing with interruption risk. Add checkpoint writes, restart time and the probability of losing work.
3. Add storage and data movement
Include boot volumes, datasets, shared filesystems, snapshots, checkpoints and replicas for the entire retention period. Then price ingress and egress between regions, clouds and object-storage services. A cheaper GPU in a different region can lose its advantage when every training epoch reads across a network boundary or final artifacts must be copied out.
4. Account for idle and queue time
Record the time a reserved node is waiting for data, a failed job, a manual approval or a downstream dependency. Also record queue time before the job starts. If a project has a deadline, waiting days for a discounted GPU can cost more than a higher on-demand rate that starts immediately.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
5. Value engineering effort
Estimate the hours needed to adapt images, drivers, NCCL or EFA/InfiniBand settings, Kubernetes manifests, identity policies, monitoring and recovery automation. A platform that matches your existing tooling can have a lower total cost even when its raw GPU rate is higher.
Capacity and availability: check before comparing price
Availability is SKU-, region- and date-specific. Verify the exact GPU model, count, reservation requirement, quota and expected start time in the region that can access your data. Newer accelerators such as H200 and B200 can have materially different capacity from H100 in the same provider.

- Choose the region closest to the authoritative dataset and compliance boundary.
- Request quota for the exact machine family and node count, not a generic “GPU quota.”
- Test a small launch of the same SKU and image; confirm that all eight GPUs appear and that peer-to-peer communication works.
- Ask whether capacity is guaranteed, reservation-backed or best-effort, and document expiration or cancellation terms.
- For spot or preemptible capacity, run an interruption test and verify that checkpoints can resume on a fresh node.
Do not treat a provider’s maximum cluster size as available capacity for your account. AWS’s documented 20,000-GPU UltraCluster scale and Azure’s thousands-of-GPUs statement describe platform capability; quota and placement still control your deployment.

Single-node fine-tuning may be limited by GPU memory or data loading. Multi-node pretraining is often limited by collective communication. Compare these attributes explicitly:

- Inside the node: NVLink or NVSwitch peer-to-peer paths, topology and measured bandwidth.
- Between nodes: EFA, InfiniBand or another RDMA-capable fabric, including bandwidth and latency.
- Software path: NCCL version, provider plugins, driver compatibility and whether collectives use the intended interface.
- Placement: whether nodes are placed in one tightly coupled cluster or spread across less suitable locations.
AWS documents 900 GB/s NVSwitch peer-to-peer bandwidth and up to 3,200 Gbps EFA for P5 families. Azure documents NVLink 4.0 and 3.2 Tbps scale-out InfiniBand for ND H100 v5. These are provider specifications under stated configurations, not equivalent end-to-end benchmarks. CoreWeave and Google Cloud machine types require SKU-level topology and network verification before you assume comparable scaling.
What to measure
- All-reduce and all-gather time at the planned node count.
- Tokens per second or samples per second with the real batch and sequence length.
- GPU utilization, host-memory pressure and input-pipeline wait time.
- Time to write and restore a checkpoint.
- Scaling efficiency when moving from one node to two, four and the target cluster size.
Match the provider to the workload
Large-model pretraining
Prioritize HBM capacity, NVLink or NVSwitch topology, RDMA networking, checkpoint throughput and guaranteed placement. H200 systems with 1,128 GB of aggregate HBM3e per eight-GPU node can reduce the need for memory-saving parallelism compared with 640 GB H100 nodes, but only a benchmark can show the resulting time-to-convergence.
Fine-tuning and experimentation
Short, bursty runs benefit from immediate availability and simple images. Compare on-demand launch time, startup scripts, dataset locality and the cost of keeping an environment warm. Spot can work when checkpoints are frequent and the run is restartable.
Inference
Measure latency, throughput at your target batch size, model-loading time, autoscaling delay and the cost of keeping replicas available. A lower-cost L40S configuration may be suitable for a model that does not need H100-class memory or compute, but choose from measured service-level objectives rather than GPU labels.
HPC and mixed pipelines
Include CPU balance, host memory, local storage and filesystem throughput. AWS FSx for Lustre, Azure’s surrounding networking services, Google Cloud’s Compute Engine and GKE options, and CoreWeave’s Kubernetes-oriented infrastructure each change the amount of platform integration work your team must do.
Best Value
A repeatable comparison procedure
- Write the workload specification. Record model, precision, parameter count, sequence length, batch size, target throughput, checkpoint interval and maximum acceptable recovery time.
- Define the minimum system. Select GPU generation, count, memory, CPU, host RAM, local storage, shared storage and network fabric.
- Shortlist equivalent SKUs. Use CoreWeave’s instance details, AWS P5/P5e/P5en, Azure ND H100 v5 and Google A3/A4 documentation to find matching eight-GPU or multi-node systems.
- Check supply. Confirm region, quota, reservation rules, queue time and interruption policy for the exact SKU.
- Build a full cost sheet. Enter on-demand, committed and spot scenarios separately; add storage, transfer, orchestration, idle time and labor.
- Run the same benchmark. Use identical container, framework, precision, dataset shard, checkpoint settings and node count. Measure useful work, not vendor peak figures.
- Stress recovery. Stop a worker, force a checkpoint restore and test scaling or replacement behavior before a production commitment.
- Choose on completed work. Select the provider with the lowest reliable cost per converged model, served token or completed job at the required deadline.
Common comparison mistakes and fixes
Comparing a GPU price with a whole-node price
Fix the unit of comparison. If one quote covers eight GPUs and another is per GPU, normalize to the full node and include host resources.
Using aggregate memory as a throughput claim
Eight H100 GPUs and eight H200 GPUs can both be described by aggregate memory, yet kernels, communication, clock behavior and software support differ. Treat memory as a fit constraint, then benchmark speed.
Ignoring region and reservation rules
A documented A4 or A4X system is not evidence of immediate availability in your preferred region. Confirm reservation and quota requirements before modeling a launch date.
Relying on peak network numbers
EFA, InfiniBand and NVSwitch specifications describe the fabric. They do not tell you the time per training step for your model. Test collectives and end-to-end scaling.
Choosing spot for an irreplaceable run
Spot is appropriate only when checkpoints, restart automation and retained artifacts make interruption affordable. Otherwise compare reliable on-demand or committed capacity.
Moving data after selecting the GPU
Place compute near the dataset and required services first. Add every cross-region and cross-provider transfer to the cost sheet before declaring a winner.
Decision guide
| If your priority is… | Start by evaluating… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent GPU catalog and visible spot options | CoreWeave | Its pricing page exposes GPU count, VRAM, vCPUs, RAM, local storage and hourly on-demand or spot listings, subject to regional capacity. |
| H100/H200 clusters with documented EFA and NVSwitch | AWS P5, P5e or P5en | The families combine eight-GPU nodes with large-scale UltraCluster and FSx for Lustre options. |
| Microsoft-centered identity and InfiniBand training | Azure ND H100 v5 | The documented node pairs eight H100 80 GB GPUs with 96 vCPUs, 1,900 GiB RAM and 3.2 Tbps scale-out InfiniBand. |
| Choice among H100, H200 and B200 machine families | Google Cloud A3 or A4 | The documented A3 Mega, A3 Ultra and A4 systems cover those accelerators, with region and reservation checks required. |
| Lowest cost for a specific production result | A controlled benchmark across all viable providers | Only a same-workload test captures utilization, scaling, recovery and data-movement effects. |
Bottom line: compare cost per useful result
There is no permanently cheapest cloud for H100 or H200 GPUs. CoreWeave can make GPU pricing and configuration details easy to inspect; AWS offers mature P5 networking and very large documented cluster scale; Azure ND H100 v5 combines an eight-GPU H100 node with substantial host memory and InfiniBand; Google Cloud spans H100, H200 and B200 families through A3 and A4. Your best choice is the provider that can supply the exact topology when you need it, run your software efficiently, keep data movement controlled and deliver the lowest reliable cost per completed training job, converged model or served token.
