Chico’s size 1 corresponds to US 8/M, and size 1.5 to US 10/M—but those labels do not guarantee the same fit at another retailer. Use the conversion as a starting point, then compare your current body measurements with that brand’s chart for the garment you plan to buy.
Chico’s size conversion at a glance
Chico’s uses its own 000-to-4 label system. Its published conversion maps those labels to familiar US numeric and letter sizes:

These are Chico’s own label equivalencies, not a promise that garments from different brands have matching dimensions. The size 4 row is especially important to read as written: Chico’s maps it to either US 20 or US 22, not to one fixed numeric size. See Chico’s size-conversion explainer.
Compare measurements, not just labels
Start with the current chart for the destination brand and the type of item you are buying—such as a top, dress, or pair of bottoms. Brands may use different charts for different categories, and letter sizes can cover a range of measurements rather than a single set.

For example, Chico’s lists size 1 as US 8/M and size 1.5 as US 10/M. Brooks Running’s women’s apparel chart groups M with US sizes 8–10. That overlap can help you find a starting point, but it does not show that Brooks and Chico’s garments share the same measurements or fit. Compare your measurements with the relevant chart and the garment’s fit notes. The official charts are available from Chico’s and Brooks Running.
How to make a useful brand-to-brand comparison
- Measure your body. Use a flexible measuring tape. Chico’s directs shoppers to measure the fullest part of the chest, the natural waist, and the fullest part of the hips. For pants, it also describes measuring the inseam along the seam of well-fitting pants.
- Open the destination brand’s current chart. Choose the chart for the garment category rather than relying on a general size table or the label on a different kind of item.
- Check what the chart measures. Determine whether its numbers describe body measurements or the garment itself. Then read the listed fit or silhouette and account for the style, cut, fabric, and intended ease. Primark notes that fit can vary with style, cut, and fabric; Brooks distinguishes fitted, semi-fitted, and relaxed descriptions. See Primark’s women’s size charts and Brooks’ apparel chart.
- Resolve conflicting measurements for the specific item. If your measurements fall between chart entries or point to different sizes, consult that item’s guidance or the retailer’s support. Chico’s dress guidance says to choose the larger size when top and bottom measurements land in different sizes.
- Check length and proportion separately. A matching size number does not establish sleeve, torso, or inseam length. Chico’s describes its petite clothing as intended for women 5 ft 4 in or under, with shorter sleeves, raised waistlines, and reduced inseams and lengths.
Chico’s chart details vary by garment
Chico’s current official chart shows why category matters. For missy tops and dresses, size 1 / US 8 lists a chest of 36½–37½ inches, waist of 31–32 inches, hips of 39½–40½ inches, and arm of 23 inches. Size 1.5 / US 10 lists a chest of 37½–38½ inches, waist of 32–33 inches, hips of 40½–41½ inches, and arm of 23⅛ inches.

The bottoms chart lists waist and hip measurements separately: size 1 / US 8 is 31–32 inches at the waist and 39½–40½ inches at the hips; size 1.5 / US 10 is 32–33 inches at the waist and 40½–41½ inches at the hips. The complete Chico’s size chart includes other sizes, garment categories, and petite variants; use the entry for the specific item you are considering.

What the conversion can—and cannot—tell you
A conversion is useful for narrowing down which chart entries to compare. It is not an exact cross-brand fit rule: the available charts do not establish that garments carrying equivalent US or letter labels have identical dimensions, and no systematic fit test across these brands was established.

Chico’s advises: “When in doubt, measure yourself and compare to the size chart rather than guessing from your usual number.” That guidance comes from the retailer’s size explainer. Apply it to the garment category, fit description, and length you need rather than treating a familiar label as a guarantee.
